June 24, 2004 Sheriff's Calls

SAN GERONIMO – A Sylvestris Drive resident at 7:04 p.m. June 14 reported that vandals had tampered with her sprinkler system. She asked for extra patrols in her area, and deputies agreed to provide them.

INVERNESS – A resident at 9:42 p.m. June 14 told deputies a "very transient-looking" man had been sitting in a small park near her house since 1 p.m." She asked to have a deputy "check the park area and see if the [man] is still there." The deputy who responded reported, "He was in the park almost hidden."

DILLON BEACH – Napa Police at 9:46 p.m. June 14 asked deputies there to tell a 51-year-old Valley Ford-Franklin School Road resident to stop calling a woman because she had secured a court order requiring him to leave her alone.

DOGTOWN – A motorist told the Highway Patrol at 10:40 p.m. June 14 that she had just driven past a man lying face down beside Highway 1. Twenty minutes earlier, the motorist said, she had seen him walking along the edge of the roadway.

BOLINAS – A resident of the Big Mesa at 11:50 p.m. June 14 told deputies he has two storage units and believed someone had been sleeping in one of them. Ten to 15 minutes earlier, the resident said, he heard what sounded like a lock being broken.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy at 11:04 a.m. last Wednesday took a report on a merchant’s being cited for allegedly selling cigarettes to a minor.

POINT REYES STATION – Medics and a deputy were summoned at 11:29 a.m. last Wednesday after a 60-year-old woman complained of "extreme stomach pains" and a "bad headache." She told deputies that she had just had a tooth pulled, which caused an infection in her gums. She said she was feeling dizzy and nauseated, noting that her doctor believed all this was related to the gum infection.

OLEMA – A deputy at 11:43 a.m. last Wednesday took a report on a merchant’s being cited for allegedly selling cigarettes to a minor.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 12:04 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies a thief had stolen a hand-held computer and a $299 check from inside his unlocked pickup truck.

LAGUNITAS – A deputy at 12:53 p.m. last Wednesday took a report on a merchant’s being cited for allegedly selling cigarettes to a minor.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies reported that a 52-year-old woman kept calling her husband, a resident of Seadrift Road, and making insulting statements. The ongoing calls continually violated a court order that she leave him alone, noted a deputy, who took a report for contempt of court.

TOMALES – A Highway 1 resident at 3:26 p.m. last Wednesday complained that her landlord had sent another email to her that day. A deputy noted that the Sheriff’s Office the day earlier had told the landlord to "not call or email [the tenant] again." The officer noted that the landlord "has a history of calling and emailing [her] all day long (eight times in a 24-hour period)." The officer described the problem as a "tenant dispute and unwanted communications."

INVERNESS PARK – A resident at 4:44 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies he had paid a man $100,000 to raise money for an organization that, in turn, was supposed to raise funds for the resident’s nonprofit. The resident said he has now hired a private investigator to do a background check on the man, and the investigator had spoken with the man’s parole agent.

WOODACRE – A homeowner at 5:09 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies his home, which is for lease, is now vacant, and vandals had broken two windows in a shed. The loss was estimated at $500. He expected the house to be occupied within a week, the homeowner added.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 6:08 p.m. last Wednesday received a report there was a "man down" on Olema-Bolinas Road near the lumber yard. Although two people also called Smiley’s Saloon about the man, a deputy was unable to find him.

STINSON BEACH – A resident called deputies at 9:39 p.m. last Wednesday to report someone was hammering behind an apartment house on Arenal Avenue. A deputy found a man trying to repair a car, and the man "agreed to do the repair work during daylight."

LAGUNITAS – A Cintura Avenue resident at 11:14 p.m. complained about a neighbor’s having "large floodlights on the outside of his house, and [they are] shining directly into [his] house," a deputy quoted him as saying. The resident "has asked the neighbor repeatedly to shut them off, but he refuses to." He therefore wanted a deputy to speak to the neighbor, "as his efforts have failed," the deputy added.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident reported that cars were gathering in front of her house, which she called "a regular occurrence." She asked that a deputy move them along. A deputy did.

INVERNESS PARK – A resident at 10:37 a.m. last Thursday notified deputies there was black-and-white milk cow in her yard and that she didn’t know who owned it. However, she added, there is a dairy ranch behind her home. The owner of the ranch said he would send someone over to verify it was his cow. The Highway Patrol noted it had also received two calls reporting a cow on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

POINT REYES STATION – The Highway Patrol at 9:54 p.m. last Thursday received a call from a woman screaming in Spanish from a Highway 1 call box three miles north of town. A deputy determined there had been a traffic accident involving only one motorist.

FOREST KNOLLS – A young woman at 10:19 p.m. last Thursday told deputies her uncle, who is in his 40s, was hitting his 14-year-old daughter (her cousin). She said her uncle was apparently drunk and that "there’s a lot of screaming going on inside the house."

STINSON BEACH – A state park ranger at 1 p.m. Friday notified medics a female had broken her arm and would need to be lifted out of the backcountry by helicopter or carried out on a litter.

STINSON BEACH – A sheriff’s sergeant reported "new charges" against a 42-year-old woman, whom, he said, had been ordered by a court to leave a 46-year-old former domestic partner alone.

STINSON BEACH – A ranger at 6:55 p.m. Friday told deputies that a drunk man on Calle del Mar had fled from him but was "now detained and cuffed." The Sheriff’s Office contacted a detoxification center, but it had no room for the man.

DILLON BEACH – A Valley Ford-Franklin School Road resident at 7:56 p.m. Friday reported a window had been pried open while she was away for a day. And 15 minutes ago, she added, she had seen a small, white pickup truck drive up her driveway, look over her house, and then drive away.

LAGUNITAS – A Mountain King Road resident at 8:41 p.m. Friday notified deputies that a truck with two ladders on top had driven through her property to the fire lookout even though it wasn’t manned after dark. She added that she had talked with the men in the truck who said they were with AT&T and were working on a switch.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de la Ribera resident at 9:08 p.m. Friday complained that "a large group of juveniles have a fire on the beach, and one of [them] is swinging around a large stick with the end burning." She said she "would like them to leave and extinguish their fire. A few minutes later she called back to report the youths had begun setting off fireworks.

STINSON BEACH – Seadrift Security at 9:13 p.m. Friday reported hearing from an elderly couple that "a [man] is going door to door, asking for booze or graham crackers. Although the man repeated his request twice, the couple did not open their door to him.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle del Pradero resident at 9:38 p.m. Friday reported that fireworks had been going off for the past half hour although she couldn’t tell where they were coming from.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 8:51 p.m. Sunday received a report from someone on Mesa Road that a "large, black-and-white cow just crossed the street." It was heading toward Knob Hill Road. A deputy checked the area but could not find the cow.

INVERNESS PARK – An 82-year-old man at 10:01 p.m. Sunday called deputies and said he had fallen on the bedroom floor and could not get up. The man, who has a history of heart problems, was transported by ambulance to a hospital.

BOLINAS – A resident at 10:11 p.m. Sunday complained that a 50-year-old man is living in a white RV, which had been parked near her home about a week. She said she believed the man moved the RV around town "looking for sites to live." A deputy found the man and told him vehicle habitation is illegal in Marin County except in campgrounds. The man agreed to move along.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A ranger at 9:10 a.m. Saturday reported a vehicle had overturned at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Pierce Point Road, coming to rest on its top. The ranger said the vehicle’s occupants were up and walking around, but the vehicle was partially blocking one lane.

DOGTOWN – Medic and a deputy responded at 11:06 a.m. Saturday
when a motorcyclist ran off Highway 1 and crashed into a tree. He was airlifted to a hospital by helicopter.

FOREST KNOLLS – A tenant at 12:17 p.m. Saturday reported having a quarrel with his landlord.

WOODACRE – A landlord at 4:19 p.m. Saturday told deputies she had given notice that day to tenants.

DILLON BEACH – Campground staff at 9:45 p.m. Saturday told deputies people at one campsite were being loud and setting off fireworks that were landing on other people’s tents. She said she had received complaints from other campers.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de la Ribera resident at 10:01 p.m. Saturday reported fireworks going off in her area.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident at 11:01 p.m. Saturday told deputies there might be a dead or injured deer on Highway 1. A deputy found an uninjured "baby deer just sitting in a yard," apparently waiting for its mother.

POINT REYES STATION – The sheriff’s West Marin substation has asked The Light to let readers know a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. The Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s new phone number is 446-4418.

 

June 17, 2004 Sheriff's Calls

WOODACRE – In yet another dispute among cherry vendors, one vendor at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and San Geronimo Valley Drive called deputies at 1:32 p.m. Saturday to complain about a second vendor. He said the second vendor claimed to have a permit for the first vendor’s site and asked for mediation. A deputy determined both vendors had county permits to sell cherries at the same site. He told them to contact the county Planning Division on Monday and in the meantime avoid fighting. "Both parties agreed to remain peaceful," the deputy reported.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at the West Marin Sheriff’s Substation at 11:41 p.m. last Thursday received a call from a man who lost an orange-and-blue surf sail in the Bodega Bay area. He said he thought in might drift onto West Marin coast and asked that he be notified if anyone spotted it.

WOODACRE – A Madrone Avenue resident at 5:51 p.m. Sunday complained about "rave music playing for the past six hours." A deputy found the home where the music was coming from and advised the resident to keep the volume down.

BOLINAS – Deputies and medics on Brighton Avenue at 7:15 p.m. Sunday called for a helicopter when a 71-year-old woman with a history of heart problems began sweating heavily. In addition, a deputy reported, her legs had become numb and she felt nauseated.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Resaca Avenue resident at 9:21 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies she could hear screaming in the dark but could not tell exactly where it was coming from. The woman said she had heard someone scream, "I’m going to stick a pistol up your mother’s c--t." She said there were no cars around but that she had previously heard some drug activity in the general area.

BOLINAS – A caller complained to deputies at 8:27 p.m. Sunday that there had been a "very, very loud party for over five hours now" in the area of Elm and Grove roads." A deputy checked the neighborhood and reported, "No party located."

LAGUNITAS – A dispatcher, who received a 911 call at 10:05 a.m. Saturday, reported having "heard faint sounds of a child laughing. Then the phone [was] hung up." The dispatcher called back and got an answering machine. Eventually it was determined the caller was an "infant playing with the phone."

BOLINAS – A man at 11:52 a.m. Saturday complained that two other men were "accusing [him] of raping a woman that is in jail." A deputy gave him advice.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 2:22 p.m. June 8 told deputies she lives next to the town park and that she doesn’t like kids in the park hitting balls toward her house. She said the same juveniles are always in the park playing ball and that baseballs have broken her windows in the past. She said she wanted the problem "nipped in the bud." At 12:46 p.m. Saturday deputies received an anonymous call – apparently from the same woman – complaining that a man with a ponytail and an old car parked nearby was drinking beer in the park. A deputy spoke with two men he found in the park and determined that neither had been drinking. The officer also reported being unable to find any open beer containers. At 5:03 p.m. the woman complained about "kids playing in the park again – playing baseball in the basketball court." A deputy spoke with the woman who said she had called to complain only because kids’ balls had come over her fence in the past. None had on that day, however, she said. A deputy noted there was no evidence of any wrongdoing by the kids.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 1:34 p.m. Saturday told deputies a 23-year-old man had violated a court-issued retraining order by calling her home and leaving a message on her answering machine. Officers handled the incident as a threat that was intended to provoke terror.

BOLINAS – Town firefighters and deputies at 1:40 p.m. Saturday were unable to put a fallen Olema-Bolinas Road stopsign back up and instead erected a barricade with a stopsign on it. They asked that the county Department of Public Works be informed that the permanent stopsign was being held for safekeeping at the town firehouse.

NICASIO – Deputies and medics responded at 4:18 p.m. Saturday when a woman in her late 30s fell and received a cut near her eye. A deputy noted the woman "was shaking" and that it was "possible" that she was having "a seizure." Medics transported her by ambulance to Marin General Hospital.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 10:42 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that a deer had been killed in traffic on Highway 1 near the water district office. The man said the deer was lying in the southbound lane. A deputy later reported the deer had been moved off the highway.

DILLON BEACH – Firefighters at 7:30 p.m. Friday were summoned to put out a dune fire at Lawson’s Landing.

LAGUNITAS – A caller at 11:10 p.m. Friday notified deputies that a woman, who has a court-issued retraining order against a man, was now on top of a hill talking with him. A deputy could not find them.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 9:07 a.m. Friday reported his ex-wife had violated a court’s order that she "not harass him in any way." However, he said, he had faxed his house a letter for his new girlfriend. The letter made "derogatory" comments about him, he noted.

WOODACRE – Medics at 9:27 a.m. Friday checked on the condition of a 69-year-old fall victim with an arm injury. The victim declined transportion to a hospital.

OLEMA VALLEY – A Park Service ranger at 5:02 p.m. Friday reported a vehicle was in a field near the cemetery and may have overturned. The ranger said no one had been injured in the mishap and that the driver had left the scene.

STINSON BEACH – A resident at 11:42 p.m. last Thursday complained about a group of people, who were on the beach playing loud bongo drums. A deputy "cleared out" a small party of adults and had the fire put out.

TWO ROCK – A Coast Guard officer at 11:42 p.m. last Thursday asked deputies to back him up, saying he had stopped a vehicle "that just left the base recklessly." The Coast Guard officer added that "the driver appears to be under the influence of a controlled substance." He also asked to have another lawman take the motorist to jail.

STINSON BEACH – A deputy at 12:10 a.m. Friday detained two 16-year-old girls from Kentfield who had been drinking alcohol. The girls were warned about underage drinking and then turned over to their parents.

FOREST KNOLLS – Medics responded at 12:30 a.m. Friday when a 56-year-old woman, who had received a hip replacement, dislocated her hip.

INVERNESS PARK – A resident at 12:50 a.m. Friday reported seeing "a group of drunk teenagers" on Balboa Avenue and in a house along the street. He said he was worried the youths would soon start driving home. He also noted he had seen broken glass on the pavement. When an officer went to the scene, he found a vehicle with two youths in it. One of them, a 16-year-old girl, was so drunk medics were called in to check for a "possible alcohol overdose." The girl was then cited for public drunkenness and released to her mother.

WOODACRE – A Central Avenue resident at 11:50 a.m. last Thursday asked to file a report concerning checks that were stolen out of her purse and used.

STINSON BEACH – Medics and deputies responded at 1:03 a.m. last Thursday when a woman collapsed in the federal parking lot.

DILLON BEACH – A camper at 10:10 p.m. last Wednesday complained about another female camper who was very drunk "running around with no shoes on." The caller said the other woman "keeps running from her campsite to [the caller’s] campsite." A deputy checked the area but could not find the second camper.

STINSON BEACH – A 58-year-old man died in a hot tub, deputies learned at 8:07 a.m. A woman said she had last talked with him at 10 p.m. His body was found face down on the bottom of the tub.

INVERNESS – A man on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 6:29 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies he’d had a non-injury collision with another motorist. The other motorist was unlicensed, he said, so he asked for a deputy and a Highway Patrol officer to assist him.

BOLINAS – An Olema-Bolinas Road resident at 9:01 p.m. June 8 told deputies a woman in Fairfax keeps making harassing phone calls to her. She has also received a number of hangup calls she said. A deputy advised her to get caller ID so she can verify who the caller is.

BOLINAS – A man and a woman separately complained to deputies at approximately 9:15 p.m. June 8 that someone was setting off fireworks on Brighton Beach. The culprits were gone by the time a deputy arrived.

INVERNESS – A man at 9:05 a.m. June 8 told deputies that six months ago an ex-employee of his talked a client of his into giving the ex-employee a $5,000 to $10,000 advance for work that was never done. He asked what his client should do, and a deputy gave the man advice.

INVERNESS PARK – A deputy at 4:22 p.m. June 8 gave advice to a resident who had hired a 45-year-old homeless man and is now being harassed by him.

June 10, 2004 Sheriff's Calls

WOODACRE – A resident at 9:34 a.m. Sunday reported an eight- to 10-year-old boy was riding a motorized dirtbike. She said the boy, who told her he lives on Carson Road, was wearing a helmet. However, she questioned whether he is old enough to ride such a bike. A deputy determined the boy was riding in an Open Space district.

STINSON BEACH – A deputy on Calle del Mar at 12:49 p.m. Sunday arrested the driver of a Chevrolet van on a warrant and after searching the man’s van arrested a 36-year-old passenger, who was also wanted on a warrant.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 2:04 p.m. Sunday reported a possible burglary from a vehicle parked on Ocean Parkway. However, when deputies checked with the woman in Modesto who owns the vehicle, she said she earlier had to break into the vehicle to retrieve her car keys.

MUIR BEACH – A woman 3:16 p.m. Sunday reported the boyfriend of her roommate had disappeared between 2 and 6 a.m., leaving behind his shoes and identification. She said her roommate had unsuccessfully searched for the man, who was "despondent" regarding their relationship.

WOODACRE – A resident at 4:12 p.m. Sunday complained of being harassed by a Forest Knolls resident, 53, with whom she had been involved. A deputy quoted the woman as saying, "He has been leaving a ton of messages [on her answering machine] and stating weird things. [He] has extensive alcohol problems and has been suicidal."

DOGTOWN – A motorist at 7:42 p.m. Sunday told deputies that a motorcyclist had crashed on Highway 1. Although the biker was up and walking around after the crash, a passerby told officers the biker was injured. A second passerby notified deputies the biker’s "injuries look bad." The Highway Patrol handled the matter.

STINSON BEACH – A woman called deputies from Highway 1 at 10:18 p.m. to report a suspicious looking man in a dark-colored, brand-new truck had "kept asking her to come over to his truck," a deputy quoted her as saying. She said the yellow-and-black truck was parked at the federal beach.

WOODACRE – Medics and deputies at 2:37 a.m. Monday were summoned to Redwood Drive when an 83-year-old woman fell down 12 steps, cutting the back of her head. The woman did not lose consciousness but complained of headache.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 8:13 a.m. Sunday reported a man was "sleeping in the middle of the roadway in a bundle of rags [and a] sleeping bag. [His] belongings are nearby." A deputy had difficulty finding the man but reported eventually locating him and being told the man "was sleeping on the side of the road because he had an argument with his girlfriend last night."

LAGUNITAS – A resident at 10:38 a.m. Sunday reported receiving an email from his ex-wife, who said she was going to commit suicide. The man said he sent their son to check on her, but she was not home.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 10:53 a.m. Saturday told deputies that a woman, whom a court has ordered to leave him alone, had violated the restraining order in Stinson Beach.

BOLINAS – A man at 12:09 p.m. Saturday told deputies a second man was outside the community center "bothering people walking by." Deputies said the caller, who was "not very cooperative" and sounded as if he had been drinking, accused the second man of "mouthing off." The second man had left by the time a deputy arrived.

POINT REYES STATION – A lawyer brought some old shotguns to the sheriff’s substation at 12:18 p.m.. Saturday and asked that they be destroyed.

BOLINAS – A woman at 4:43 p.m. Saturday complained about a loud band in a parking lot near Brighton Avenue and Wharf Road. A deputy abated the disturbance.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 10 p.m. Saturday received a report of 10 youths getting together to party on Brighton Avenue and making noise. A deputy broke up the party and detained a 17 year old.

NICASIO – A Lucas Valley Road resident at 10:19 p.m. Sunday complained about a "loud party and music with about 50 cars parked on the roadway." A deputy determined it was an adult party with no minors drinking. The host said he would stop the band and keep the noise indoors.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 10:56 p.m. Saturday complained about a "large group of juveniles congregating and yelling." A deputy determined there was "a small group of 20 people at the end of Resaca Avenue." The location "is not accessible by car," he added. The officer said he had spoken to the resident, "who is allowing people to park in his driveway. He was concerned about the noise, but everyone is being quiet."

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD – Medics and deputies responded at 12:05 p.m. Friday after receiving a report that a man was dehydrated and had not been eating. A dispatcher noted the man is "not combative."

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 4:38 p.m. Friday told deputies she had lost her wallet on Highway 1 almost two weeks ago.

POINT REYES STATION – A main street merchant at 5:43 p.m. Friday complained about a motorcycle parked on the sidewalk. A deputy ticketed the cycle on charges of illegal parking.

DILLON BEACH – A woman asked for advice concerning a brother who had been drinking and was now passed out. The 51-year-old man had previously threatened to go to an ex-girlfriend’s home and harm her, the woman said.

OLEMA – Deputies at 9:14 p.m. received a second-hand report that a man in his 60s had stomach cramps and had been "vomiting for the past hour or so." Officers were told the victim spoke German and "very little English."

PLATFORM BRIDGE – A woman at 10:52 p.m. Friday notified deputies that a bicyclist at Laurel Canyon and Point Reyes-Petaluma roads "may need assistance." An officer quoted her as saying the "bicyclist tried to approach her, but she was too afraid to stop."

DILLON BEACH – A deputy was summoned to Marine View Drive at 12:22 a.m. Saturday when some youths started making noise after their parents went for a walk. While the deputy was talking with the youths, their parents showed up and "assured me that no more noise will be made," the office reported.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 2:51 a.m. Saturday arrested a man in his 20s after he tried to climb in the kitchen window of an apartment at Walnut Place senior housing complex. Awakened by the man, the resident of the apartment did not turn on her lights but snuck over to the window in the dark and suddenly shouted at him. When the man jumped back in surprise, she shut the window and called 911. The man, however, did not leave, and deputies found him standing outside her window. He was arrested on charges of public drunkenness and attempting to commit a crime.

DOGTOWN – A blue Oldsmobile ran off Highway 1 at 11:19 a.m. last Thursday. The driver was not injured, and the vehicle did not pose a hazard to traffic, a deputy reported.

BOLINAS – A resident complained at 11:43 a.m. last Thursday that a red SUV was partially blocking traffic at Overlook Drive and Terrace Avenue, "making it very difficult to even get a pickup by."

TOMALES – A man at 12:03 p.m. last Thursday reported a tractor-trailer rig came apart on Highway 1 near Miller Park. The trailer ended up in a ditch, and the cab of the semi left.

BOLINAS – A woman was found passed out from alcohol in the women’s restroom of the community center at 2:43 p.m. last Thursday. She was arrested on charges of public drunkenness but taken to Marin General Hospital for treatment before being transferred to the county jail.

BOLINAS – A resident at 8:14 p.m. last Thursday reported a 36-year-old woman was experiencing chest pains and numbness in her fingers and toes. No drugs were involved, he said, but the woman has a history of heart murmurs.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident at 8:42 p.m. last Thursday told deputies her garage door is broken and that a friend had seen someone inside her garage a few days earlier. She said she is trying to get a garage-door-opener company to repair the door. A deputy gave her security advice to follow until the repairs are done.

PLATFORM BRIDGE – A deputy at 3:07 a.m. Friday told people in a white van parked on Platform Bridge Road that it is illegal to sleep overnight in a vehicle in Marin County except in campgrounds.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 8:46 a.m. Friday told a deputy his vehicle is inoperable and asked the deputy for advice. The deputy reported he had advised the resident that "an inoperable vehicle cannot be driven on the highway."

STINSON BEACH – The general manager of Seadrift subdivision at 12:30 p.m. last Wednesday notified deputies that a man in the nude was heading down Seadrift Beach toward the county beach. He said someone from Seadrift Security had asked the man to put his clothes back on, but the man refused. A deputy could not find him.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 4:16 p.m. last Wednesday received a report of a single-vehicle accident at Highway 1 and the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. A deputy could not find the vehicle but did find county firefighters at the scene dealing with a broken utility pole.

POINT REYES STATION – A seventh grader at 4:27 p.m. last Wednesday asked a deputy for information to use in a report she was writing for school.

BOLINAS – A motorist at 4:28 p.m. last Wednesday called deputies "very upset about [another driver] that nearly ran him off the road into two bicyclists and is now parked." He said the other motorist was driving a green car with Oregon plates. The second driver was a man about 40 and weighing about 200 pounds, he said. The caller also said the other driver was now unloading a surfboard.

FOREST KNOLLS – A man at 9:13 p.m. last Wednesday reported hearing a woman and a man yelling at each other, adding, "It’s getting loud again."

NICASIO – A resident at 9:18 p.m. last Wednesday complained about someone shooting off fireworks near her property. Deputies were unable to find any fireworks.

WOODACRE – A resident reported a woman had injured him and that he was bleeding. He added that she bit him. When deputies called him back, however, he said he was home alone. He said he had been sleeping and denied that anything had happened.

DOGTOWN – School staff at 11:51 p.m. June 1 reported a 15-year-old boy had run away from a boarding school, as had a second youth, 11, living in Bolinas at a "satellite house."

BOLINAS – A woman at 1:54 a.m. last Wednesday called deputies from Wharf Road to report having had a quarrel with her boyfriend an hour earlier. She said he has a history of domestic abuse and had been behaving violently. The caller added that he had elbowed her in the face, but she thought he had done so accidentally.

INVERNESS PARK – A Drakes Summit Road resident at 8:56 a.m. June 1 reported a neighbor had started "yelling at [the resident’s] house continually and waking up the family." The resident said he had "approached [the neighbor] who complained that [the resident’s] pumphouse was waking him up." The resident said the pumphouse had been tampered with but that he didn’t not think the neighbor would become physically violent. However, the resident added, his wife was "concerned."

LAGUNITAS – A resident at 9:43 a.m. June 1 told deputies she had been cleaning out the house of her deceased father, who had been a Sheriff’s Office volunteer, and found "a large supply of old bullets" in the garage. She turned several rounds of ammunition over to a deputy for destruction.

POINT REYES STATION – The sheriff’s West Marin substation has asked The Light to let readers know a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. The Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s new phone number is 446-4418.

June 3, 2004 Sheriff's Calls

NICASIO – Medics and deputies at 3:17 p.m. May 24 responded to Los Piños after receiving a report that a 24-year-old man had cut a finger in a gardening accident. The finger was not amputated despite a deep cut, medics were told. When a deputy reached the scene, however, he found that the injury was actually a rattlesnake bite." After being bitten, the gardener had gone back to work, but while the deputy was there his hand became "very swollen." Then his legs began to swell and the gardener became unsteady on his feet. Despite a language barrier, the deputy got the gardener to quit working. Medics and the officer kept the victim comfortable while waiting for an ambulance.

LAGUNITAS – A Chimney Lane resident at 7:17 p.m. Sunday complained that a neighbor had thrown a rock at his fence.

TOMALES – A resident at 10:58 a.m. May 25 told a deputy she had received mail saying that if she sent back $24, she would receive $242. A dispatcher noted she "thinks it is a scam." A deputy gave her advice.

POINT REYES STATION – A Highway 1 merchant at 12:36 p.m. May 25 asked a deputy to stop by her business because she had questions about the legal possession of marijuana. A deputy gave her advice.

OLEMA – A man at 8:23 p.m. May 25 told deputies he had received second-hand information that a male teenager had sexually assaulted several teenage girls during a church campout in the National Seashore last Labor Day.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 9:50 p.m. Friday told deputies that the 23-year-old father of her child had brought a knife to a mediation session at Civic Center that day. She quoted him as later telling her on the phone he had a history of psychiatric problems and that she’d "be dead right now if he couldn’t control himself." She asked for advice as to how to get a court to issue an order protecting her.

INVERNESS – A woman at 2:11 p.m. Saturday reported being harassed by a former tenant for the past 11 years. She reported several incidents, which she felt were "suspicious," including someone apparently entering her house while she was gone and unplugging her answering machine.

WOODACRE – A resident at 11:10 a.m. May 25 said that 10 days earlier a baseball broke her car window and that the coach had said he would check if his insurance company would cover the damage. However, she said, she had not heard back from the coach and asked if she had any recourse. When a deputy phoned her, she was not home.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de la Resaca resident at 9:13 p.m. Saturday complained about five youths "making a lot of noise and [having] a bonfire" on the beach. A deputy contacted two groups of youths. Neither was consuming alcohol, but the officer told them their fires were illegal. The youths extinguished them and agreed to move along.

NICASIO – A Lucas Valley Road resident at 11:02 p.m. Saturday told a deputy that a neighbor had taunted him in an effort to "come outside and fight." He said the man was still outside in his driveway. When he tried to get the neighbor to talk on the phone with deputies, the man "ran away," he said.

DILLON BEACH – A campground owner at 11:12 p.m. Saturday reported she had just been told that a vehicle had "flipped onto its side" along Dillon Beach Road. A deputy, who found the vehicle between the town and Elephant Rock, called for medical assistance, saying someone was stuck in the vehicle.

DILLON BEACH – A man on Cypress Avenue reported eight adults were making noise downtown and lighting fireworks at 11:55 p.m. Saturday. When a deputy arrived, all was quiet.

DILLON BEACH – Campground staff at 12:58 a.m. Sunday complained that someone was building a bonfire in the dunes. A deputy was unable to find any fire.

DILLON BEACH – A man at 2:27 a.m. Sunday reported seeing a second man stealing "stuff" from other people’s campsites. When the second man was spotted, however, he dropped the stuff and fled.

INVERNESS – A deputy was summoned at 9:51 a.m. Saturday when there was a misunderstanding between a lodger and an innkeeper. After he arrived, the guests were refunded their money and agreed to leave.

BOLINAS – Neighbors summoned deputies at 1:21 Saturday when they heard a woman yelling inside her house. The woman told an officer she was taking her medication, and he confirmed she was "okay."

LAGUNITAS – Medics and deputies responded to Cintura Avenue when a 44-year-old resident reported a headache so severe she could not drive herself to a hospital. A deputy noted the woman had a history of migraine headaches.

DILLON BEACH – A camper accompanied by two children at 7 p.m. Friday told deputies she was being "verbally abused by one of the neighboring campers." A deputy contacted both campers and noted she and a man were quarreling over a campsite. Because of the Memorial Day weekend, a deputy explained, "Campsites are at a premium."

DILLON BEACH – A member of a campground’s staff at 7:45 p.m. complained that three boys and their grandmother were trying to get into the campground after she "kicked them out when the juveniles brought in alcohol."

WOODACRE – A Madrone Avenue resident at 9:26 p.m. Friday complained there was a rave underway nearby with music so loud he could not sleep.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy at B Street and Highway 1 at 1:36 a.m. Saturday cited a motorist on charges of driving with a suspended license.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 8:17 a.m. Friday reported receiving a phone call from a man who said, "We are having a problem over here." When asked what was going on, the man, who "sounded stressed," said "I can’t reach the party I’m trying to get ahold of."

LAGUNITAS – A resident at 8:27 a.m. Friday reported a man in his 40s or 50s was "doing illegal work in a creek. He is drilling holes in the creek with a machine. There is no permit on file."

BOLINAS – A man at 10:58 a.m. Friday told deputies he wanted "to purchase high-end stereo gear from a private owner. He was wondering if the serial numbers could be run first to make sure the equipment isn’t stolen." A deputy gave him advice.

STINSON BEACH – A Rafael Patio resident at 11:25 a.m. Friday complained that a 47-year-old county employee "has been filing numerous TROs [court-issued temporary restraining orders] against him, which is harassing him." A deputy said all this is the result of a court case. The officer took an harassment report.

LAGUNITAS – A landowner at 11:39 a.m. Friday reported a 40-year-old homeless man was again camping on his property. A deputy noted the landowner had signed a letter authorizing deputies to arrest the man if he was found trespassing on his property again.

WOODACRE – A deputy at 3:10 p.m. Friday evaluated someone’s state of mind and concluded the person was sane.

STINSON BEACH – A homeowner at 3:45 p.m. Friday told deputies his house is for sale and that youths, who live on either side of him, use his frontyard as a shortcut. He said he had attempted to contact their parents and requested that a deputy ask the adults to keep their children from trespassing.

MARSHALL – Firefighters at 3:57 p.m. Friday reported four branches from a cypress tree had fallen onto Highway 1, blocking a 40-foot section. The county Department of Public Works was dispatched to remove the foliage.

BOLINAS – A resident at 10:58 a.m. Sunday complained that a red truck parked on Terrace Avenue at Overlook was blocking access for other vehicles. A deputy determined there was "ample passage" and noted there is "no sign prohibiting parking."

NICASIO – The Highway Patrol at 10:58 a.m. Sunday alerted deputies that someone in a blue Ford pickup truck might be casing a Lucas Valley Road house for a burglary.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 2:33 p.m. Sunday received a report that two people on Wharf Road were drunk. An officer found one drunk woman and took her to a detoxification center.

OLEMA – A Highway 1 merchant complained about loud noise coming from a barbecue, saying it was driving away her customers. A deputy contacted people at the barbecue, and they agreed to turn the noise down.

MUIR BEACH – A Pacific Way resident at 3:05 p.m. Sunday complained about numerous cars parking in such a way as to block access for any emergency "rig." A deputy cited several vehicles.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle del Mar man complained Sunday afternoon about numerous vehicles parked on both sides of the street, blocking access.

WOODACRE – A resident at 6:11 p.m. Sunday said a rental truck was parked outside and that she believed men associated with it were illegally sleeping in a nearby pickup with a camper shell.

INVERNESS – A resident at 6:19 p.m. Sunday said someone had turned off the hose below his garage.

SAN GERONIMO – County paramedics responded at 6:19 p.m. Sunday when an elderly resident fell down.

NICASIO – A Los Piños resident at 9:27 p.m. Sunday reported hearing a large gathering of teenagers, who had a radio with them. He said they were up a fire road and that he was concerned they might accidentally start a fire. A deputy noted officers would need a four-wheel-drive vehicle to reach the group.

TOMALES – A Tomales-Petaluma Road resident Sunday evening reported men were illegally camping in bushes across the street.

OLEMA – A Highway 1 resident at 12:04 a.m. Monday complained about a very loud party and said he wanted it shut down. The partygoers told a deputy they would keep the noise down.

WOODACRE – A man at 12:19 a.m. Monday complained about a loud party with music.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident Sunday evening complained about loud, aerial fireworks and said he could see an illegal campfire. A deputy walked the length of the beach but found no people or fireworks although he did find a small fire.

INVERNESS PARK – A housesitter at 4:11 a.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a burglar alarm had sounded and that she had heard an outside door to the residence open. During the week she had been in the house, she said, she had received a series of hangup phone calls.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 10:37 a.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a 23-year-old Daly City man has been calling her and "making statements about wanting to molest small children." She added that "he hears voices in his head." The resident asked for an emergency protective order involving threats. A deputy noted the incident was part of a child-custody dispute.

INVERNESS – A deputy at 12:41 p.m. last Thursday reported he was "on a followup, recovering wine stolen" from a restaurant.

DILLON BEACH – An Oceana Drive resident at 8:48 p.m. last Wednesday reported that while he was in his car, a man living in the neighborhood had stuck his hands into the resident’s vehicle, spit at him, and threatened to beat him up. Deputies advised the resident to call 911 if the man comes onto his property.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 1:25 a.m. last Wednesday complained about loud talking, which he thought was coming from customers sitting outside the bar on a log. A deputy found no one outside the bar but did find people on Juarez Avenue and advised them to go inside.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident at 9:09 p.m. May 25 complained that a neighbor had yelled at her kids and left a threatening note on her car. She said the 45-year-old man was now standing across the street holding a beer and might have been drinking.

NICASIO – A resident at 9:05 a.m. May 25 informed deputies that a man, about 20, who had been driving a red Toyota Sentra, was now pushing a woodchipper uphill in a neighbor’s vacant lot. He said the lot is fenced and has a locked gate. He said the man’s car was parked on Lucas Valley Road.

BOLINAS – A man on Wharf Road at 3:51 p.m. May 25 asked a deputy about the legality of camping on Bolinas Beach. The officer told him what is allowed and forbidden under county law.

LAGUNITAS – A Cintura Avenue resident at 5:56 p.m. May 25 told deputies he had an ongoing problem with a homeless person trespassing on his property. He said he would give officers a letter authorizing them to keep trespassers off his land.

BOLINAS – A resident at 9:24 a.m. May 24 told deputies his dog had gotten out of his yard and run through a neighbor’s yard. He said the neighbor then called him and threatened to shoot the dog if it got in his yard again. A deputy explained to him the various laws that apply to the situation. The resident said he did not wish to file a report at this time.

WOODACRE –A Redwood Drive woman at 3:23 p.m. May 24 reported finding a wallet on 45th Avenue in San Francisco. A deputy picked up the wallet.

BOLINAS – A man on Brighton Avenue at 3:23 p.m. May 24 notified deputies that a man and a woman were in the bushes behind the postoffice. He had no description of the pair but said he could hear them.

DILLON BEACH – Medics and deputies responded to Oceana Drive at 4:11 p.m. May 24 when a four-month-old girl began vomiting and had trouble breathing. Deputies were told the girl’s skin was a little pale, she had not been sick, and was napping when the vomiting began.
