May 27, 1999 Sheriff's Calls

PLATFORM BRIDGE - A burglar smashed a window of a woman's parked car and stole a backpack, credit cards, $100 cash, spare keys, miscellaneous personal items, and cassette tapes.

INVERNESS - A French journalist staying on Pine Hill Road reported she had lost her press pass and $10. She said she was returning to France.

INVERNESS - Someone ransacked a woman's house on Perth Way, dumping the contents of drawers onto the floor but taking nothing. However, when an employee of hers checked the house at 12:45 a.m., he found someone had placed another person's cover over a car. A deputy gave him advice.

WOODACRE - After a man on Railroad Avenue complained about problems with a neighbor, a deputy gave him advice.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman reported losing her purse while in a store. She said she may have left it in her car.

STINSON BEACH - A red Ford pickup truck pulling a boat and trailer almost hit a schoolbus head-on just south of Audubon Canyon Ranch, the bus driver reported.

MUIR BEACH - A woman reported that a burglar had stolen a backpack, her wallet, $150 in cash, and other items from her car parked on Pacific Way.

FOREST KNOLLS - A man said his ex-girlfriend (with whom he has a child) was refusing to return property that belongs to him. A deputy gave him advice.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint that someone was camping at the beach. They left a note on a minibus parked on Wharf Road that vehicle habitation is illegal.

MUIR BEACH - A resident reported that a pickup truck driver pulling a Jet Ski on a trailer had tried to turn around in the resident's driveway and had driven over the landscaping. The resident said the driver, a man in his 20s, became belligerent when contacted.

STINSON BEACH - County firefighters reported receiving a medical-aid call following a go-cart accident at Buena Vista and Lincoln avenues. Firefighters said that because the victim was a juvenile and because no other vehicles were involved, the CHP would not respond to the accident.

WOODACRE - Deputies received a call at 7:20 p.m. complaining about loud music from a house on Madrone Avenue. Unable to reach the host by phone because the line was busy, an officer went to the house and contacted the host, who promised to turn the music down. If there is another complaint, the deputy warned, the party would be shut down. Another complaint came in at 10 p.m. from a woman, who said there had been drumming at the party since that afternoon. An officer temporarily abated the problem, but when a third complaint came in at 10:50 p.m., a deputy ordered the host to turn off the music.

BOLINAS - A man at 11 p.m. told deputies that two homeless men were camping on the beach. An officer determined the men were just fishing.

STINSON BEACH - A man at 11:35 p.m. complained about loud music coming from more than six people on Seadrift Road. When a deputy arrived, all was quiet.

BOLINAS - A woman on Oak Road called deputies at 1:15 a.m. after she heard scratching outside her bedroom window. An officer could not find anything suspicious.

STINSON BEACH - A man at 11:15 p.m. complained there had been loud music from a party on Calle del Embarcadero since 6 p.m. A deputy determined the party was actually on Calle de Occidente and contacted the host. The host promised to turn down the music, but deputies received a second complaint later.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman at 10:15 p.m. complained that the music from a bar on the main street was extremely loud that night.

BOLINAS - A woman on Brighton Avenue at 9:30 p.m. complained about a group of men outside a church making loud noises. She later called to say they had left, and deputies were called back before they reached the scene.

STINSON BEACH - Deputies received an anonymous report that seniors from Davis High School planned to cut classes and go to the federal beach to drink beer and to Red Rock nude beach "to get naked."

LAGUNITAS - A woman on Charles Lane told deputies a burglar had stolen a cordless drill, its case, and bits.

SAN GERONIMO - A school staffer reported that a 13-year-old boy had pulled the fire alarm and that she wanted him cited. The juvenile, who was already reporting to the Probation Department, was cited on charges of tampering with a fire alarm.

MUIR BEACH - A woman reported that her husband's wallet was stolen from their locked car while it was parked at the Zen Center.

POINT REYES STATION - Deputies responded when a person on the levee road took an accidental overdose of medicine.

BOLINAS - A woman reported that a homeless woman was in the bushes along Wharf Road yelling for help.

INVERNESS - A woman complained that her husband was still living at the back of her property despite a court order that he leave. She said she would leave her house for the night "and wants him out," deputies reported.

TOMALES - A burglar entered a house along Highway 1 via a window and stole electronic items and other property.

SAMUEL TAYLOR PARK - A burglar broke the window of a car parked at Devil's Gulch and stole property.

 

May 20, 1999 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS - A man, while not violent, refused to leave another person's farm at 8:30 p.m. A deputy arrested him on charges of public drunkenness.

FALLON - A woman on Whitaker Bluff Road at 9 p.m. reported her adult daughter had attacked her. The mother performed a citizen's arrest on battery charges against her daughter, and a deputy booked the daughter, saying such attacks have been a recurring problem.

BOLINAS - A homeless woman on Wharf Road yelled for paramedic help although she didn't need it. Later in the week, a deputy cited the woman on charges of having an open container of alcohol on Wharf Road and arrested her on charges of public drunkenness as well as on a court warrant. Deputies had the woman checked by paramedics and Marin General Hospital before booking her.

WOODACRE - A deputy on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at Railroad Avenue spotted a man beside his vehicle at 4 a.m. Because the man appeared intoxicated, the deputy turned the case over to the Highway Patrol, which arrested the man on charges of public drunkenness.

POINT REYES STATION - Mendocino County deputies asked deputies here to take a report on a local woman who allegedly was physically assaulted in Manchester by her boyfriend. Mendocino County deputies said the woman had "visible injuries."

BOLINAS - A burglar on Brighton Avenue stole the spare tire from a woman's car. Another woman reported seeing a man, whom she recognized but whose name she didn't know, hanging around the car before the burglary. The stolen tire was later found on an abandoned car parked on Brighton Avenue.

TOMALES - Two brothers got into a fight on John Street. A deputy determined that one of the brothers, who was found in possession of a small amount of marijuana, agreed to be transported to the county's Community Mental Health facility, and deputies filed a report on the incident.

BOLINAS-FAIRFAX ROAD - A witness told deputies that two male bicyclists were yelling at each other at the intersection with Ridgecrest Boulevard. Deputies referred the case to Fairfax Police.

SAN GERONIMO - A woman reported that a drunk man, who lives near her, had entered her house without permission at 10 a.m. but that she had pushed him back out. Deputies filed a report with the district attorney.

TOCALOMA - Deputies were notified there was a dog with a broken leg at the intersection of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Platform Bridge Road. Officers, however, could not find the dog and told the Humane Society it didn't need to go to the site.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman said a man had called her, claiming she had stolen things from her ex-husband's estate a year after he died six years ago. A deputy gave her advice.

HICKS VALLEY - A car and pickup truck collided at Novato Boulevard and the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. No one was injured.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint that the alarm of a car parked at the tennis courts had been sounding every five minutes for an hour. The car had no license plates, and officers said there was nothing they could immediately do about the problem.

BOLINAS - A 12-year-old girl was supposed to watch over her six-year-old brother, but when she got home from school, he was not there although his backpack and shoes were.

INVERNESS - Deputies were noted that a deer had been injured in traffic on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and was still alive.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman on Montezuma Avenue complained about another woman's playing a flute outdoors. Last year, officers received similar complaints from the second woman, whom they contacted again.

OLEMA - A motorist apparently upset at having to follow a slow-moving vehicle pulling a horse trailer on Bear Valley Road tried to pass it on a curve. When an oncoming vehicle came around the curve, the motorist allegedly forced the horseman's vehicle and trailer off the road.

POINT REYES STATION - Deputies were notified that seven to nine loose horses had headed east on Manaña Way and then turned onto Highway 1.

SAN GERONIMO - A man on Tamarack Drive complained about a loud party with drums and said there had been a live band earlier. The man said the suspects were new neighbors holding a moving-in party. A deputy contacted the hosts, who said they would keep the noise down.

STINSON BEACH - A woman on Calle del Occidente complained at midnight that 20 people had a bonfire on the beach. A deputy found no fire violation but did disperse 50 juveniles.

POINT REYES STATION - Deputies received a 911 hangup call from a phone along Highway 1. When a second call came in, officers could hear juveniles laughing in the background. A deputy and their parents reprimanded them.

BOLINAS - Deputies at midnight received a complaint about loud music coming from the vehicles of several teenagers. All was quiet when an officer arrived, and there were no teenagers around.

MARSHALL - A thoroughly burned Mercedes car was found at 11 p.m. on Millerton Point near the restrooms of Tomales Bay State Park. The county fire department told officers, "The fire looks suspicious in nature."

STINSON BEACH - A mother at 8:45 p.m. reported her 15-year-old daughter was with friends in Bolinas and refusing to come home. A deputy gave her advice.

BOLINAS - A man notified deputies that a 50-year-old homeless woman had tried to forge his checks downtown.

FOUR CORNERS - Deputies received a report of a loose cow on the roadway, but a rancher returned the cow to its pasture.

STINSON BEACH - The county fire marshal asked deputies to stand by while firefighters served a warrant on a 32-year-old man living on Belvedere Avenue.

POINT REYES STATION - A deputy and two rangers along Highway 1 removed an encampment created by homeless people.

POINT REYES STATION - A man notified deputies he saw two people in a white Toyota ram a car across the street three times and then head north on Mesa Road. The car that was rammed had a for-sale sign on it. Highway Patrolmen subsequently questioned four people.

OLEMA - Following a hit-run accident on Highway 1, the victim's wife driving a green truck began chasing the suspect's vehicle southbound. Deputies were told the suspect was a woman with blonde hair and that her vehicle had front-end damage.

STINSON BEACH - A homeowner notified deputies that a vandal had sprayed paint on his house and on his neighbor's fence.

FOREST KNOLLS - A man on Castro Street reported a suspicious vehicle has been parking in front of his house and that his neighbor had seen the vehicle's driver looking in his windows. A deputy gave him advice.

NATIONAL SEASHORE - A citizen notified deputies about cows loose on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

BOLINAS - A citizen walking on Wharf Road tripped over the framing for a cyclone fence, which had been bent toward the street. The citizen wanted to know if the fence was on public or private property, adding that Bolinas Public Utility District doesn't know.

MOON HILL - A motorist on Nicasio Valley Road reported hearing someone in the vehicle ahead of him fire a gunshot.

 

May 13, 1999 Sheriff's Calls

STINSON BEACH - A citizen found a woman's backpack near Steep Ravine and turned it over to deputies.

BOLINAS - Deputies at 11:30 p.m. received a call from foster parents living on Olema-Bolinas Road who said a 13-year-old girl had not returned after an argument with them. The foster parents called back at 8 a.m. the following morning to say the girl had returned. A deputy cited her on charges of being out of control.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - A woman at 5 p.m. notified deputies she had observed a man standing naked beside the roadway.

INVERNESS - A burglar entered a woman's vehicle parked on Perth Way and stole her wallet.

POINT REYES STATION - A deputy on Highway 1 at 5 p.m. arrested a man on a warrant.

MARSHALL - A deputy driving on the Marshall-Petaluma Road at 3 a.m. spotted a stolen car with a flat tire but no one around. He waited for the motorist to return to fix the tire and then arrested him on charges of vehicle theft.

FIVE BROOKS - A burglar stole a wallet and checkbook from a locked vehicle.

INVERNESS - A deputy at 11:30 p.m. arrested an Inverness Way resident on charges of destroying telephone equipment.

CHILENO VALLEY - A week ago, a woman on the Tomales-Petaluma Road told deputies a man had threatened her with a screwdriver when she asked him to leave. This week she told deputies the man has now threatened to shoot her mother and stepfather if she doesn't drop assault-with-a-deadly-weapon charges against him. Deputies filed a report with the district attorney.

NATIONAL SEASHORE - A man on Pierce Point Road at 10 p.m. reported his companions were four hours overdue in returning from a hike.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Rosario Road resident at 11:15 p.m. complained about lots of traffic and a very large party on the deadend roadway. A deputy contacted the host, who agreed to turn the music down.

BOLINAS - A landlord said that during an altercation, her tenant had threatened to throw a hammer at her. She added that he had previously thrown a hammer at someone else. The landlord told deputies she was afraid of him and wanted him gone. She said she would ask a court to issue a restraining order against him.

TOMALES - A 16-year-old boy hit a man in the face, and he, in turn, hit the boy in the face, the man reported at 9:45 a.m. He said the fight concerned neighborhood kids' not being allowed in the house.

NICASIO - A Nicasio Valley Road resident said her neighbor had harassed her 13-year-old son verbally and had cocked his trigger finger, suggesting he would fire a gun at the boy.

POINT REYES STATION - The postmaster complained about a vehicle that had been left in front of the postoffice for several days. A deputy checked the license plate and found the vehicle was registered to a woman in Lagunitas.

DILLON BEACH - Someone on Marine View Way called 911 but could not speak English when the call was answered. When deputies called back, the call was answered by a woman who said she'd had a quarrel with her boyfriend but that she was now leaving and that he had already gone.

FOREST KNOLLS - A doctor reported that a 39-year-old woman had been making suicide threats for a couple of days. The doctor asked that she be evaluated.

BOLINAS WYE - A deputy helped with traffic control after a motorcyclist taking part in the Sunday Morning Ride crashed and was evacuated by helicopter to John Muir Hospital.

WOODACRE - A Redwood Avenue woman complained about an ongoing problem with neighbors being loud. However, she said, they were not loud at the moment.

MARSHALL - A vehicle overturned on Highway 1 at 1:15 p.m. and went over an embankment. A deputy assisted the Highway Patrol with traffic control.

LAGUNITAS - A woman asked for a deputy to stand by while she picked up her daughter, 13, from the home of the girl's father, who had reportedly been drinking. When an officer arrived at the scene, no one was home.

BOLINAS - A drunk man passed out on Wharf Road but came to about 11 p.m. However, he refused to leave the area.

WOODACRE - Deputies at midnight received a complaint about loud voices coming from an adult party. An officer abated the problem.

STINSON BEACH - A motorist at midnight reported that his vehicle was locked inside the federal beach's parking lot. A deputy arranged for it to be freed.

STINSON BEACH - A Dipsea Road woman at 3:45 a.m. complained about loud voices and a fire, possibly from a barbecue, behind her house. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

NATIONAL SEASHORE - A driver at 8:45 p.m. overturned on the road to Johnson Oyster Company.

STINSON BEACH - Deputies received a complaint of juveniles drinking alcohol and breaking bottles in a parking lot. However, neither any sheriff's patrolcars nor any park police patrolcars were close enough to respond.

BOLINAS - A homeless woman on Wharf Road had trouble breathing and was taken to a hospital.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman on Sinola Avenue notified deputies that her son, 17, was arguing with her again and was slamming doors. She said she had locked herself in her room because he was out of control. The woman said her son was yelling at her because he wanted his keys. A neighbor also reported hearing the disturbance.

WOODACRE - A woman living near the intersection of Carson Road and Redwood Drive at 8:15 p.m. complained about a drummer on Carson Road. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

 

May 6, 1999 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS - A Wharf Road merchant reported a burglar stole a bank-deposit bag from his business's office.

SAN GERONIMO - A man on Orchard Way complained that a juvenile was pulling up grading stakes.

SAN GERONIMO - Deputies received a report that a drunk man on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard was being violent. The man left before a deputy arrived. No description of the man was given to the officer, who determined that no violence had occurred.

BOLINAS - A man on Iris Road complained that another man was tearing up the roadway by driving a small tractor on it. While on Wharf Road, the first man again called deputies and asked that an officer speak to the tractor driver. An officer determined that no crime had occurred.

FALLON - A car overturned at Highway 1 and Whittaker Bluff Road.

SAN GERONIMO - A San Geronimo Valley Drive resident reported that his picnic table had been damaged by a vandal during the night.

NICASIO - A Nicasio Valley Road resident reported that a vandal had smashed her mailbox during the night.

NICASIO - Yet another Nicasio Valley Road resident reported that a vandal had smashed his mailbox during the night.

POINT REYES STATION - A merchant complained that a woman in her late 40s was sitting in front of the business causing a disturbance by yelling. A deputy contacted the woman, who said she would leave the area.

MUIR BEACH - A Sunset Way resident at 11 a.m. complained about a bulldozer digging the foundation for a house on Sunday although the Planning Department had limited work to Mondays through Saturdays.

STINSON BEACH - A woman at 3 p.m. reported a man at Belvedere Avenue and Highway 1 was talking to himself and yelling at people.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 10:30 p.m. complained about a large number of cars parked along the roadway, with lots of teenagers and young adults making noise. A deputy abated the problem, but the woman called back at 1:45 a.m. to report the teenagers were now driving erratically and could kill themselves. When a deputy checked, the party was over.

DILLON BEACH - A house guest on Tahiti Way at 10:30 p.m. reported hearing someone downstairs and seeing a pickup truck in the driveway. She then heard a door close and noticed a man in his early 20s near the truck.

BOLINAS - A deputy on Wharf Road at 1:45 a.m. cited a motorist for driving with a suspended license.

FOREST KNOLLS - A man at 10:15 p.m. complained about roads being blocked by 25 cars belonging to guests at a large party in the area of Railroad Avenue and Hemlock.

FOREST KNOLLS - Deputies at 10:30 p.m. received a complaint about a large number of cars parked along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and about teenagers making noise. An officer abated the problem.

SAN GERONIMO - A Sylvestris Drive woman reported repeatedly finding somebody's garbage piled with her own on pickup days. She told deputies she had inspected the contraband garbage and found mail addressed to a man living on El Mirador in Nicasio.

BOLINAS - A Wharf Road merchant complained to deputies about drunks hanging around in front of his business about 5 p.m. each day. He asked for extra patrols.

CHILENO VALLEY - A big rig got stuck in a ditch at Marshall-Petaluma and Wilson Hill roads. A deputy summoned a tow truck.

STINSON BEACH - A woman reported that a burglar had broken the left rear window of her car parked along Highway 1 and had stolen her purse and a guitar. She estimated the loss at $400. State park rangers handled the crime.

DILLON BEACH - A townswoman reported that a Coast Guard friend had been walking along the beach the previous night when he was attacked by a group of juveniles from Tomales, who had been drinking on the beach. Although he was bruised and swollen, she said, her friend declined to report the incident himself so she did. Deputies arrested three youths on battery charges and are seeking a fourth.

CHILENO VALLEY - A Tomales-Petaluma Road resident reported that a 38-year-old man had threatened her with a screwdriver because she had asked him to leave. A deputy reported the man had tried to leave but his truck was out of gas. Officers noted the bed of the man's pickup truck was full of old refrigerators.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Morelos Avenue resident at 7:30 p.m. reported that someone had shot paint balls at his house during the day. The vandalism was witnessed by a neighbor, who said a juvenile did it. The juvenile cleaned the paint off the house.

WOODACRE - A Redwood Drive woman at 8 p.m. complained about her neighbor's loud music and said it was an ongoing problem. She said she had contacted the neighbor, who refused to turn down the music. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.
