HICKS VALLEY – A man at 12:32 a.m. Saturday alerted deputies that someone might be trying to rustle cattle, noting that his cattle had been "restless for the last half hour." He then reported the cows were now loose on Hicks Valley Road.

INVERNESS PARK – A resident at 9:55 a.m. Friday reported that a 50-year-old man had partially amputated a finger with a tablesaw. Medics and deputies responded.

BOLINAS – A sheriff’s patrolcar hit a dog on Wharf Road at 11:02 a.m. Sunday. The dog’s owner, who was present, took it to the Marin Emergency Veterinary Clinic.

NICASIO – A resident at 1:07 a.m. Sunday notified deputies that a neighbor was using a backhoe. He said he believed that such construction on a Sunday might violate county ordinances. A deputy gave him advice.

STINSON BEACH – A psychotherapist at 12:19 p.m. Sunday reported losing a fannypack containing vitamins and possibly a checkbook.

DILLON BEACH – A deputy at 12:43 p.m. Sunday went to a Valley Ford-Franklin School Road home to confiscate firearms from a man after Napa Police reported there is a court-issued retraining order against him. The man, who had been arrested the previous day on charges of making threats, did not live at the address given by Napa Police, and West Marin deputies were unable to immediately determine whether the man was still in custody in Napa County.

DOGTOWN – A motorcyclist crashed on Highway 1 at 2:03 p.m. Sunday. A deputy said the biker remained conscious, was alert, and had refused medical treatment.

TOMALES – Deputies at 4:32 p.m. Sunday received a sketchy report of a collision on Highway 1. No Highway Patrol, West Marin Sheriff’s Office, or Sonoma County Office officers were in the area.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Cintura Avenue resident at 10:23 a.m. Saturday complained about a man in his 40s sitting in an empty lot "with stuff all around him: sleeping bags etc." She said she believes the man is living at the encampment. When a deputy arrived, the man was gone but his "stuff" was still there.

OLEMA – Deputies at 2:45 p.m. Saturday received a report that a rider had fallen off a horse and may have broken a rib.

BOLINAS – A deputy on Wharf Road at 3:26 p.m. Saturday arrested a woman on public-drunkenness charges. A detoxification center agreed to admit her.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – County paramedics at 4:45 p.m. Saturday summoned a rescue helicopter to Divide Meadow after a man injured his back.

POINT REYES STATION – A resident at 7:14 p.m. Saturday complained about a "very loud" party." She said she would like the "blaring music" turned down. A deputy determined the noise had been coming from a wedding reception that was now breaking up.

WOODACRE – A resident at 5:35 a.m. Saturday complained about a group of youths running around, throwing beer cans, and screaming in the vicinity of Carson Road and Railroad Avenue. A deputy reported that he "met with five kids who said their vehicle was in the ditch and they were throwing cans at their own vehicle." The deputy dispersed the youths and had the vehicle towed out of the ditch.

INVERNESS PARK – Medics and deputies responded at 3:55 p.m. Friday when an 82-year-old man with a heart problem began to bleed steadily. The rescuers were called back to the residence at 5:42 p.m. Sunday when the man, who had just been released from hospital, experienced "excessive bleeding."

BOLINAS – A woman at 8:05 p.m. Friday complained that a 40-year-old man, who had been drinking, had made inappropriate comments while she was escorting her mother to a car.

BOLINAS – A resident at 9:28 p.m. Friday complained about a bonfire on the beach near the end of Brighton Avenue. A deputy found two adults at the fire and told them it was illegal. They put it out, and the deputy "advised them to move on," he reported. "They agreed."

FOREST KNOLLS – A Rosario Road resident at 10:41 p.m. Friday complained that 15 to 20 drunk youths were at a neighbor’s house and "have parked cars up and down the road and have blocked [his] driveway." He could not drive to his house or away from it, he said. The resident also said some of the youths were "smoking pot." A deputy contacted the youths and reported he was "working" to straighten out the situation.

BOLINAS – Two residents about 2:30 a.m. Saturday independent complained about a noisy group with a bonfire on Brighton Beach. One of the men said he was awakened by their screaming. A deputy found the group and two fires, which were extinguished.

WOODACRE – When a man at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Railroad Avenue appeared unsteady on his feet, a deputy at 5:52 p.m. Friday determined he had not been drinking or using drugs and was merely listening to music. After checking the man’s identification, the officer told him to "move along."

BOLINAS – A resident at 7:03 p.m. last Thursday told deputies a man on Wharf Road was very drunk and might have a broken foot. The man asked to be taken to the county crisis unit because he could not take care of himself. A deputy transported him.

DOGTOWN – A deputy armed with a warrant from Ventura County at 8:06 p.m. last Thursday arrested a 60-year-old man on weapons and explosives charges.

MUIR BEACH – A resident at 8:15 p.m. last Thursday told deputies that a man in his 20s had partially taken off his pants and was removing his shirt. She said she was concerned about another woman who was walking on the beach, adding that the man might be insane. In any case, he did not speak English, she said. Skinnydipping on the Little Beach section of the strand has been the subject of periodic controversies.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 9:26 p.m. last Thursday received a report of a large campfire on Brighton Beach. The caller said it was the fourth night in a row there had been illegal fires on the beach. A deputy told a group to put our their fire, warned them it was illegal, and they dispersed.

NICASIO – A Lucas Valley Road resident at 3:48 p.m. last Thursday asked deputies what records law enforcement has on him. He said he believed he was being confused with somebody else that has the same name. A deputy gave him advice.

STINSON BEACH – A Highway Patrol officer at 8:52 a.m. shot to death a deer, which had been injured in traffic on Highway 1, to put it out of its misery.

TOMALES – A rancher on the Tomales-Petaluma Road at 12:33 p.m. last Wednesday complained about a "continuing problem" with a man "coming onto [her] property and using an office in her barn." The office contains a telephone, television, and bathroom. The rancher said she has not secured a court-issued restraining order against the man, and a deputy gave her advice.

TOMALES – A six-year-old boy slipped at the elementary school, fell, and injured his arm, school staff reported at 2:08 p.m. last Wednesday.

INVERNESS – An Inverness Way resident at 3 p.m. last Wednesday filed a formal complaint regarding "very loud music" coming from a house on the street.

POINT REYES STATION – The sheriff’s West Marin substation has asked The Light to let readers know a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. The Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s new phone number is 446-4418.

May20, 2004 Sheriff's Calls

WOODACRE – Deputies and Highway Patrol officers responded at 10:12 p.m. Sunday when a vehicle ran off Redwood Drive and into a ditch. When officers found the vehicle, its flashers were on, but no one was around.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 12:49 a.m. Monday complained of loud music in her area. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

SAN GERONIMO – A construction company at 4:51 p.m. . last Thursday reported a storage trailer had been burglarized.

SAN GERONIMO – A man at 7:11 a.m. last Thursday called from a construction site to report two construction trailers had been broken into, and that "numerous tools and table saws were taken, [together] valued at $20,000. The trailers were locked [and the] locks were cut."

INVERNESS – A man on Madrone Avenue at 6:19 p.m. Friday told deputies that tools had been stolen from the front of a house in the past 15 minutes. Taken were a compressor, chop-block saw, and a nail gun (together worth about $1,800). The man said he discovered the burglary when he "heard banging about 10 [minutes] ago, went out to investigate, and found the tools missing," a deputy reported.

INVERNESS – A resident of Vision Road-Madrone Avenue area told deputies at 10:02 p.m. Friday that a "suspicious vehicle [was] outside her home," a dispatcher reported. "She "can hear the vehicle spinning wheels but can’t see the vehicle. [She] states the vehicle went up and down Vision and was going up and down random driveways." The car’s going up and down a deadend road made her suspicious.

BOLINAS – Medics and deputies responded at 4:59 p.m. Sunday when a 73-year-old woman’s nose wouldn’t stop bleeding although she had been to a hospital the night before. Deputies were told the woman has a history of heart problems. The woman, who was pale and disoriented, was flown to a hospital by a rescue helicopter.

BOLINAS – A man at 5:16 p.m. Sunday reported a man was living in a white van near the intersection of Horseshoe Hill and Olema-Bolinas roads and that the man had pit bulls "running in the area not on a leash." A deputy determined the man had permission to be on the property where he was staying.

INVERNESS – A three-year-old girl was taken by helicopter to a hospital at 5:40 p.m. Sunday after she fell while playing and began vomiting and had trouble breathing.

POINT REYES STATION – A 16-year-old girl at 9:40 a.m. Saturday told deputies her mother had been fighting with a 50-year-old man, who had been drinking. The girl said the suspect is tall, walks with a limp, and was violating parole.

DILLON BEACH – A rescue helicopter at 10:55 a.m. Saturday transported a person from Marine View Drive to a hospital. The person’s medical problem was of an "unknown nature," a deputy reported.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 11:08 a.m. Saturday reported a court has ordered a woman to stay away from him, but she approached his table in a café and said, "It looks like the hypocrites are having breakfast." He said she was continuing to "linger" in the café.

WOODACRE – A fruit vendor complained that a man in his 40s was selling cherries from a green truck at San Geronimo Valley Drive and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard but does not have a Health Department permit. The caller said that she, however, has a permit to sell fruit. A deputy told the other vendor "to return to sell when he obtains a permit."

MUIR BEACH – Medics responded at 2:14 p.m. Saturday when an 88-year-old man fell in a parking lot. The man felt a "sharp snap" in his wrist and skinned a knee.

STINSON BEACH – A man on Saturday afternoon told deputies a woman about 45 years old had reported breaking her leg and needing assistance. The woman had parked a Toyota pickup truck with a built-on camper shell for two days on Belvedere Avenue, he said. Medics checked her leg while a deputy checked her sanity.

SAN GERONIMO – A San Geronimo Valley Drive resident at 5:09 p.m. Saturday said he believed a gray vehicle with a wooden trailer may have dumped garbage. He said he was upset because of all the illegal dumping in the area.

DILLON BEACH – Medics and the Coast Guard at 6:59 p.m. Saturday responded to a report of a windsurfer "in distress." However, the rescue was called off when the windsurfer got "out of the water and is safe," a deputy reported.

BOLINAS – A Brighton Avenue resident at 11:57 p.m. Saturday complained about a large, loud party of youths who, he said, were heading toward the beach. At approximately the same time, a female resident also complained about the group, and deputies received a fireworks complaint from Stinson Beach.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 12:50 a.m. Sunday received a complaint of a couple quarreling on Brighton Avenue. Deputies were given the name of the "female half," who is 16 years old. The problem was abated prior to a deputy’s arrival.

STINSON BEACH – A Highway 1 resident at 1:53 a.m. Sunday complained about youths having a bonfire on the beach and setting off "monster-sized fireworks for about four hours." Deputies found a small party of adults with a bonfire. The fire was put out, the adults’ trash collected, but "no fireworks located."

OLEMA – A woman at 2:33 a.m. Sunday reported a red vehicle had run off Highway 1 near the cemetery. Although all the airbags in the vehicle deployed, there was no evidence that anyone was injured, and the driver could not be found.

FOREST KNOLLS – An anonymous woman at 7:40 p.m. Friday complained that a woman and two men were drinking alcohol across the street from the town park. A deputy reported "no merit" to anyone being drunk, adding that there was no alcohol to be seen in the area when he got there. The same woman had made the same complaint numerous times before, the deputy noted.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies and paramedics responded to the main street at 8:26 p.m. Friday when a two-year-old boy experienced a "convulsion." Adding to the problem, a deputy reported, was a "language barrier."

WOODACRE – A resident at 11:51 p.m. Friday complained about loud music and people yelling at an equestrian center. The caller said would like them "to quiet down." When a deputy arrived, the officer determined that an "adult birthday party [had] just ended. It was quiet on arrival, and the music was done for the night. All [the] people were leaving and very cooperative."

BOLINAS – A deputy on Wharf Road at 12:53 a.m. Saturday warned a trespasser to stay off College of Marin property.

BOLINAS – A man, who was arrested and the car he was driving impounded last Thursday night, at 12:31 p.m. Friday asked if the 30-day impoundment could be lifted. A family member at 9:44 a.m. told deputies her keys were not returned to her last night when she was taken to a hospital. She also said she need advice on getting her vehicle released from a towing company.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies at 11:26 a.m. Friday received a report that a 12-foot ladder had been stolen from a Highway 1 property.

POINT REYES STATION – A member of the public walked into the firehouse at 11:47 a.m. Friday and reported a "weird phone call." A deputy reported that "at this time" there was "no merit" to any phonecall threat. He advised the person to get Caller ID to identify incoming calls.

CHILENO VALLEY – A woman reported at 5:54 p.m. Friday that a 61-year-old woman is at home recovering from a massive heart attack, which has affected her brain. The patient was now threatening to "hurt" the woman "and herself," the woman said.

TOMALES – A resident at 7:15 p.m. last Thursday complained to deputies that he could not get his adult son to "leave the premises." The father said his son lives there but had used pot and may have taken crank."

POINT REYES STATION – A teacher at 12:36 p.m. last Thursday told deputies a student had brought a BB gun to school and that administrators had the student, who was being "cooperative," in the office. The teacher said the school will mete out discipline and was merely notifying deputies for the sake of documentation.

TOMALES – High school staff at 1:59 p.m. last Thursday told deputies a "14-year-old student was caught with marijuana. [The student] is in the office and is being cooperative...The student was cited for possession of marijuana."

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 5:01 p.m. reported hearing a male voice loudly yelling obscenities. She said she didn’t know if anyone else was in the house with him. She then reported a black pickup truck with a camper shell was leaving. She said she had not heard any other voices.

LAGUNITAS – Deputies decided to check on the welfare of a resident after she called at 9:34 a.m. last Wednesday to complain about someone at her front door. She said she hadn’t looked out the window, so she couldn’t describe who was there. However, she began talking about having her dog kill the person. She also said she keeps a gun in the house. "She is now talking about drug dealing," a dispatcher reported.

POINT REYES STATION – A main street merchant at 11:18 a.m. last Wednesday reported a camera had been left at his store the previous Sunday.

TOMALES – School staff at 2:10 p.m. last Thursday told deputies that a 15-year-old student had been called into the office for vandalizing a car at the high school. The youth was cited on vandalism charges.

MARSHALL – A Marshall-Petaluma Road rancher at 10:50 p.m. May 11 reported a burglar had broken a window of a cottage on the property and had left the back door open. Nothing was taken, and a deputy surmised the burglary was "possibly interrupted, [and the] subject fled through the front door."

WOODACRE – Improvement Club staff at 12:37 p.m. May 11 noted that deputies had taken someone from that vicinity to the county crisis unit the previous day. She asked that the person’s vehicle, which had been left near the club, be removed. A deputy said it would be moved later that day.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 4:09 p.m. May 11 complained about a pickup truck parked at the corner of Candelero Avenue and Montezuma Road. She said it would block access to the neighborhood for any emergency vehicle. A deputy determined the truck was "parked awkwardly but legal."

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies and medics responded to the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road at 5:49 p.m. May 11 after receiving a report of a vehicle off the road and its horn "blaring." The Highway Patrol confirmed there was a vehicle off the road but that it appeared unoccupied.

OLEMA VALLEY – A rancher at 8:17 p.m. May 10 notified deputies she planned to herd "a bunch" of cattle across Highway 1 at 9 a.m. the next day and asked to speak to a deputy about this. She was advised to call the dayshift and ask for traffic control.

WOODACRE – A resident at 10:51 p.m. May 10 called dispatchers "talking very loud and hung up." She then called back and said a man was in her house and that she "would like him out." The man then came "on the line stating he is leaving now," the dispatcher noted. "He came to visit [the woman] but now is leaving."

OLEMA – A priest at 12:10 p.m. May 10 notified deputies that approximately 70 vehicles were headed for the cemetery, so traffic control was needed, assuming a deputy was available. He said he had called deputies the previous day to alert them about the procession.

May13, 2004 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION – A merchant at 7:36 p.m. Sunday reported a group of juveniles were outside her business causing a disturbance. She asked to have a deputy keep any eye on them.

BOLINAS – County firefighters at 12:49 a.m. Monday notified deputies that powerlines were arcing at Alder and Grove roads. The firefighters said, "Two transformers at the location are throwing out sparks," but nothing below them had caught fire "yet."

FOREST KNOLLS – A man at 7:40 p.m. Saturday called deputies, acknowledged being drunk, and said a second man armed with a baseball bat had threatened to kill him if he returned to the Castro Street area.

LAGUNITAS – Deputies at 9:58 p.m. Saturday received a complaint about a loud party in a Sir Francis Drake Boulevard home. The caller described the host as a "reasonable" man. A deputy, who responded, said the guests were all adults and reported the host was indeed "cooperative." Although the music was "not loud at all," the officer said, the host agreed to turn it down and asked the deputy to call "if there were any other problems."

BOLINAS – Deputies at 11:55 p.m. Saturday received a report of three girls drinking on Wharf Road. An officer found two women and one girl at the scene. The girl was cited on charges of being a minor in possession of an alcoholic beverage as well as on charges of public drunkenness. She was released to her mother. One woman was cited on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

DOGTOWN – Deputies at 12:06 a.m. Sunday received a report that a van had run off the road at Thirteen Turns and that the driver was possibly drunk. An officer found the driver asleep in the back of a van, which was in a ditch. An officer took the man, who was "cooperative," to a detoxification center.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 2:07 a.m. Sunday told deputies she had just heard a car run off Highway 1 and into a ditch. Deputies found a female motorist with minor injuries. A towtruck was called to handle the "extrication problem."

POINT REYES STATION – A 19-year-old girl, who had been drinking, walked into the firehouse at 2:38 a.m. Sunday and said she normally never drinks, "so she felt the alcohol and didn’t know what to do," a deputy reported. A 24-year-old man, who was with her, said he would take care of her.

WOODACRE – A woman complained that men in their 40s were selling fruit at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and San Geronimo Valley Drive without business or Health Department permits. A deputy determined the vendors had a permit. However, the woman, who turned out to be a vendor also selling fruit, at 7:54 a.m. Sunday complained that a different vendor, who didn’t have a permit, was selling fruit at her site. A deputy told the new vendor it was illegal to sell food without a permit from the Health Department.

INVERNESS – Deputies and medics responded at 10:06 a.m. Sunday when a 39-year-old woman complained of chest pains and shortness of breath.

NICASIO – Deputies and paramedics were summoned to Nicasio Valley Road at 10:32 a.m. Sunday when a woman in her 30s was thrown from a horse in an equestrian arena. The caller said the rider, who had been wearing a helmet, was nonetheless knocked out by the fall but had now regained consciousness.

TOCALOMA – County firefighters and deputies responded at 1:10 p.m. Sunday when a bicyclist crashed at the head of the Cross Marin Trail. Deputies noted the rider was left "disoriented" but did not lose consciousness.

INVERNESS – A citizen notified deputies at 3:48 p.m. Sunday that a suspicious woman was sleeping behind the library. The woman told deputies she was waiting for a ride to San Rafael. A deputy determined the woman was homeless, and she was "moved along to call for a ride."

STINSON BEACH – A Seadrift Road resident at 5:42 p.m. Sunday told deputies his daughter had found a "Navy cylinder approximately 2.5 feet long" on the beach He said it "appears spent." However, the father added, the cylinder was marked, "US Navy – Navair marker...location Marin MK58 MOD1...Do not handle – contains phosphorus. Notify police or military." The father said his daughter had handled it and brought it back to their house." A deputy determined the daughter did not need medical care but advised the father to leave the cylinder "in the street."

TOMALES – Deputies at 9:17 p.m. Friday heard from a worried caller that a 55-year-old man was choking on something. Almost immediately, however, deputies were told, "Got it up! He’s talking and breathing okay," an officer reported.

WOODACRE – A resident at 10:31 p.m. Saturday reported youths were holding a party in the Carson Road neighborhood. She then added she could hear "yelling in the house...I just had a door slammed on me." A deputy who responded found "four girls, one guy, [and] one’s pretty drunk." The officer then radioed, "They’re starting to cooperate."

NICASIO – A Lucas Valley Road resident at 10:34 p.m. Friday complained of people "setting off propane bombs," and it’s shaking his home, a deputy reported. "He believes they’re intoxicated." The resident said he had heard the word "propane" and that he thought the home’s owners had rented the house to the people involved.

LAGUNITAS – A three-year-old girl fell out of bed and cut her head at 10:42 Friday. She was treated by county paramedics.

BOLINAS – A deputy reported that at 11:08 p.m. Friday he told a man for the second night in a row that it is not legal to sleep all night in his truck, which was parked on Wharf Road. The man left the area.

NICASIO – A man, who lives on the same property as his estranged wife, at 11:50 a.m. Saturday complained that she was refusing to move horses from the pasture so he could put in a new water line. The husband and wife have court-issued retraining orders against each other. A deputy determined that the wife, who was on the property at the time, was not violating the court order.

CHILENO VALLEY – A county fire engine responded at 12:27 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of smoke in the area. Although Coast Guardsmen in Two Rock reported "seeing a column of smoke toward Chileno Valley," firefighters at the time noted the smoke "may be drifting from a small fire in Sonoma County."

INVERNESS PARK – A Paradise Ranch Estates man at 1:58 p.m. Saturday complained of vandalism at his property.

POINT REYES STATION – An Inverness woman at 2:12 p.m. Saturday notified deputies she had lost her wallet at one business in town, and when someone turned it in at the bank, her ATM card, some documents, and $100 were missing.

MUIR BEACH – Deputies and medics at 8:32 a.m. Friday were notified that an 80-year-old man, who has heart problems and was feeling weak and cold, was also short of breath and had a rash. Although the man’s "rash [had been] getting worse over the last 12 hours," no medical response was needed for the time being, deputies were told.

NICASIO – The postmaster at 2:28 p.m. Friday notified deputies that for the "second time since March, mail has been stolen out of numerous [roadside] mailboxes." A deputy said the victims should call the Sheriff’s Office and, if they can, report "specific mail" they know was stolen. The West Marin Sheriff’s Substation phone number is 446-4418. The officer gave the postmaster some suggestions and said deputies would "do extra patrols" in the area.

SAN GERONIMO – A deputy at 4:59 p.m. Friday impounded a car belonging to a San Pablo man and cited another man, who was driving the car at the time, on marijuana and numerous vehicle code charges. The car’s owner was not present.

BOLINAS – Deputies and medics were summoned to Brighton Avenue at 3:40 p.m. Friday when a woman was found lying on the ground not far from the Presbyterian church. The drunk woman was taken to a detoxification center.

SAN GERONIMO – A man at 10:15 a.m. last Thursday notified deputies that he needed to cut a tree on Meadow Way "for emergency PG&E purposes and the resident [there] is upset with [him]." He said he may need a deputy to stand by while he does the work, and a deputy told him to call back if he did.

NICASIO – Deputies and firefighters at 1:01 p.m. last Thursday responded to a vehicle fire near the reservoir.

FOREST KNOLLS – A deputy at Guadalupe Avenue and Montezuma Road at 2:04 p.m. last Thursday arrested someone on charges of possessing more than an ounce of marijuana.

LAGUNITAS – A Cintura Avenue resident at 8:53 a.m. last Wednesday reported he had spoken with a squatter in his 40s, who had been staying on his property. The resident said he had told the man to leave, and the man had agreed to do so "but stated he wants a deputy to come out first and give him ‘professional advice’ [but didn’t say] "what he meant by that." The resident asked that a deputy contact the trespasser.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 1:10 p.m. last Wednesday reported that someone, whom he thinks he knows, has forged his signature on two checks to purchase money orders and has used his bank cards.

TOMALES – A deputy at 3:12 p.m. last Wednesday stood by as an inspector from the county Planning Division checked property on Tomales-Petaluma Road.

BOLINAS – A downtown resident at 12:55 a.m. last Thursday complained that six people had gathered in front of her house 15 minutes earlier and were "shouting and being loud." She said she believed the group was composed of adults. The small group had gathered and left before a deputy arrived, he reported.

INVERNESS – A merchant at 12:04 a.m. last Wednesday told deputies an alarm company had notified him that his business’ burglar alarm had been activated. He told deputies they did not need to respond until he checked the business himself although he "believes someone there is trying to get in," an officer reported. A deputy later noted that there had been "no one around the building, but there was a box of roses at the frontdoor."

WOODACRE – A resident at 7:37 p.m. May 4 reported a daytime burglar had stolen money, trading cards, and watches from his home.

MARSHALL – A rescue helicopter was summoned to the Walker Creek Ranch at 8:33 p.m. May 3 when a 12-year-old visitor suffered an asthma attack and had trouble breathing. The boy did not have an inhaler with him, so staff in the infirmary had put him on oxygen.

BOLINAS – A woman at 12:49 a.m. May 4 notified deputies that a 62-year-old man was experiencing chest pains and that his skin was sweaty and clammy. Medics and a deputy responded.

POINT REYES STATION – The sheriff’s West Marin substation has asked The Light to let readers know a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. The Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s new phone number is 446-4418.

 

May 6, 2004 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION – A Highway 1 resident at 9:12 p.m. Sunday reported losing a cell phone in town.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 1:26 a.m. Monday received a report that a 38-year-old man had insulted people in a bar and had last been seen running up and down the middle of Wharf Road without a shirt.

INVERNESS PARK – An 86-year-old woman activated a "lifeline" alarm after she fell in the bathroom of her Sir Francis Drake Boulevard home. She was not seriously injured.

BOLINAS – A man at 9:53 a.m. Sunday complained that a woman was living in a beige Toyota camper parked on a neighbor’s property. A deputy contacted the man, who said he would call the neighbor and ask that the camper be removed.

MARSHALL – Medics responded to a Highway 1 home at 10:35 a.m. Sunday when an 89-year-old woman fell and hit her head.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 11:28 a.m. Sunday told deputies that numerous cars had parked illegally near the beach. A deputy ticketed all of them.

NICASIO – A man at 2:44 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that a 35-year-old woman had fallen off a horse in an arena. She was not bleeding but was suffering pain in the head, he said. Medics responded.

BOLINAS – A resident at 2:49 p.m. Sunday complained that 20 vehicles were parked illegally on Terrace Avenue, which would make it difficult for any emergency vehicles to use the road. A deputy noted he had recently checked the street but would check it again.

INVERNESS – A resident at 2:51 Sunday complained that a blue Volkswagen was parked illegally on Camino del Mar. A deputy ticketed the vehicle.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de la Sierra resident at 8:41 p.m. Saturday complained about a dozen youths holding a drinking party on the beach. A deputy found the group, who were "cooperative" and were not drinking.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies at 1:21 p.m. Saturday received another call from someone on Calle de la Sierra. This time a man complained that seven youths on the street had been drinking and were "wasted." He said these were youths who had returned after a deputy visited the area earlier. An officer contacted a small group who agreed to leave. "Unclaimed beer [was] dumped out," he added.

SAN GERONIMO – A woman, who refused to give her name, at 12:08 a.m. Sunday complained about a "loud party with a band," along with guests "yelling and screaming." A deputy determined guests at the party were adults. The hostess agreed to turn down the music.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 3:14 a.m. Sunday told deputies he was at a bonfire on the beach at the end of Calle de la Ribera when a stranger hit him with a bottle, cutting the bridge of his nose. The suspect was described as in his early 20s.

WOODACRE – A woman at 10:04 a.m. Saturday notified deputies that a nighttime vandal had sprayed painted graffiti on the windows, walls, and shingles of a house under construction on Madrone Avenue. At 11:32 a.m., deputies received a second call reporting that three vehicles parked nextdoor had also been vandalized with spray paint.

WOODACRE – A woman at 10:06 a.m. Saturday complained that a man in his 40s was selling fruit from a truck parked at San Geronimo Valley Drive and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. She said the man did not have a vendor’s permit. A deputy found a woman selling fruit at the corner and determined she has a permit to do so.

LAGUNITAS – A Corona Avenue resident at 12:42 p.m. Saturday reported receiving a $4,000 bogus check for his son’s bicycle, which was for sale on Craig’s List. The bicycle was still in the son’s possession, but a deputy took a report on an attempted fraud.

FOREST KNOLLS – Kaiser Terra Linda Hospital’s emergency-room staff at 3:10 p.m. Saturday reported a Resaca Avenue man had come in for treatment of scrapes on his arms and painful ribs. The man told hospital staff his neighbor had pushed him into a fence. A deputy took a report.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 4:28 p.m. Saturday complained about a loud party in the area of Lagunitas and Spring roads. A deputy contacted the host, who said he was having a skateboard party. All bands had finished playing, and the party would be over by sunset he said. In the meantime, he would "keep the noise down."

CHILENO VALLEY – A resident at 4:47 p.m. Sunday complained that the fence between her property and her neighbors’ has a hole in it, making her family vulnerable to an "aggressive bull" in her neighbors’ pasture. She said the neighbors have refused to repair the fence.

BOLINAS – A man at 7:19 p.m. Friday told deputies his ex-girlfriend had arrived drunk, assaulted him "with an object," broke a window, and did other damage. She was now outside his house and refusing to leave, the man said.

TOMALES – A main street merchant at 8:28 p.m. Friday notified deputies that a "very dirty" man was sitting in front of her business scaring customers. When the merchant asked the man if he needed help, he "growled" at her, she said. Deputies located the man, who was "gravely disabled" mentally, and took him to the county crisis unit.

INVERNESS – A firefighter at 8:34 p.m. Friday reported an old, yellow schoolbus "filled with hippies" was parked in such a way that emergency vehicles could not get by on Inverness Way. The firefighter said that one of the "hippies" had told him the driver had the keys to the bus and that the driver’s whereabouts were unknown.

DILLON BEACH – Campground staff at 11:23 p.m. Friday asked for help in quieting a noisy group. When an owner had tried to quiet them, they pushed him around, staff said. A deputy directed the campers to stop making noise.

STINSON BEACH – A resident at 11:33 p.m. Friday complained about "very loud drumming" for several hours around the intersection of Panoramic Highway and Highway 1. The man said he believed the noise was coming from a fundraiser, but a deputy was unable to locate any party or any drumming.

BOLINAS – A man at 12:50 a.m. Saturday complained about that a "group of people are yelling and making a lot of noise" on Brighton Avenue. The group was gone when a deputy arrived on the scene.

HICKS VALLEY – A firefighter at 7:03 a.m. Friday said several passersby had reported that a man near the intersection of Point Reyes-Petaluma Road and Novato Boulevard had hit a woman several times. He "then went under [their] vehicle as if there were mechanical problems," the passersby had said.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD – A man at 7:06 a.m. Friday reported a gold-colored coupe (with tires and wheels intact) had been parked in his driveway overnight, adding that the coupe might be stolen. In addition, he said, someone was sleeping in a sleeping bag half a mile away near a small flatbed truck without tires or wheels. A deputy determined the truck had been stolen in Rohnert Park the previous day and impounded it.

WOODACRE – A resident at 10:58 a.m. Friday told deputies he was driving on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard near Railroad Avenue when he passed a truck towing a horse trailer. As he passed, the man said, the rear window of his vehicle was shattered.

NICASIO – An Old Rancheria Road resident at 11:19 a.m. Friday notified deputies that three men were picking vegetation in a creekbed, which they probably didn’t have a permit to do. She asked for advice, and a deputy referred her to the county Planning Division. At 12:09 p.m., another Old Rancheria Road resident asked for advice about clearing away vagrants’ encampments. A deputy advised him to call county Flood Control, as well as the Planning Division.

WOODACRE – A woman at 12:46 p.m. Friday told deputies that in March she had paid a male friend $2,500 for a car, but she never received the car or her money back. A deputy took a report.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 8:42 p.m. last Thursday notified medics that another woman, 56, dislocated her hip while bending over. She had previously had a hip replacement. The caller said the victim was lying on the floor, and her husband was with her.

POINT REYES STATION – A Highway 1 resident at 9:52 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a schoolbus had been locked up for the night with its lights on. She said she was concerned that the battery would be dead in the morning and asked if a deputy could turn the bus’ lights off. However, the gate to the bus yard was locked, so no deputy could easily get to the vehicle.

LAGUNITAS – An Arroyo Road resident at 10:16 p.m. last Thursday reported hearing four gunshots, after which the dogs in the neighborhood started barking. A deputy could not find anyone shooting.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD – A man at 5:01 p.m. last Thursday reported two cows were on the road.

POINT REYES STATION – A Mesa Road resident at 5:11 p.m. last Thursday complained about a "very loud band practicing." A deputy subsequently reported, "The band had just finished their practice set when I arrived. They are not going to play anymore today."

FALLON – A resident at 7:05 p.m. last Wednesday reported there were "three black cows" on the Fallon-Two Rock Road. She described them as "two large cows and one baby cow." A deputy was unable to locate their owner or find a hole in any pasture’s fence, so the cows were moved off the road and into a rancher’s driveway.

BOLINAS – A woman at 8:23 p.m. last Wednesday notified deputies that a deer struck in traffic was lying in a ditch near the corner of Mesa and Olema-Bolinas roads.

WOODACRE – Medics responded at 1:48 a.m. last Thursday when a Central Avenue resident reported that a 67-year-old man with a history of blood-pressure problems was feeling dizzy and his blood pressure was high.

BOLINAS – A man at 1:37 p.m. April 27 reported that a former tenant of a building had returned to pick up stuff he said was his but which the caller said didn’t belong to him.

POINT REYES STATION – A levee road resident at 1:39 a.m. April 27 notified deputies that someone had just knocked at her door and said a car was in a ditch in the White House Pool area. The person, who "appeared very upset," then left to investigate. The caller said she would drive to the scene herself to determine if anyone was injured.

FOUR CORNERS – Deputies at 9:48 a.m. April 26 received a report that a deer had been struck in traffic but was still alive.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Montezuma Avenue resident at 12:50 p.m. April 26 reported the front license plate had been stolen from her car.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 4:10 p.m. April 26 reported a skinny man with a history of drunkenness was sitting on a bench in her backyard, refusing to leave. The man was claiming she owed him something.

POINT REYES STATION – A motorist at 5:53 p.m. April 26 reported losing a driver’s license in Big Sur.
