STINSON BEACH – A bartender at 7:59 p.m. Monday reported that a drunk man was refusing to leave the bar. The bartender said the man was causing a verbal disturbance that might become physical However, he then said he could see a passing Highway Patrol officer arrest the man. The next report deputies received was that the man and his girlfriend had left the scene "without incident."

STINSON BEACH – A Highway 1 resident complained about bass music being "way too loud." All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road resident at 9:11 a.m. Monday told deputies he was quarreling with his wife, 43, and that he wanted help in keeping the dispute from becoming physical. The wife, in turn, said he had hit her on the chin but that it had happened "accidentally ... when he grabbed the phone."

LAGUNITAS – A Lucia Lane resident at 10:34 a.m. Monday asked to speak with a deputy about a parking problem. A deputy gave him advice and reported that the resident and a neighbor will seek mediation.

MARSHALL – A New York resident called deputies from Highway 1 at 11:11 a.m. Monday to said she had lost her wallet. She said she now couldn’t fly home because her airline was demanding a photo identification. The airline had told her to contact local law enforcement, she said. West Marin deputies took a report as a courtesy to police in Denver and San Francisco.

STINSON BEACH – A deputy and Highway Patrol officer on Tuesday reported that about 11 a.m. Monday, northbound traffic on Highway 1 began backing up from the one stopsign in town. The line of stopped vehicles eventually wound 12 miles over Mount Tamalpais, under the Highway 101 freeway, and for an hour backed up traffic on Bridgeway in Sausalito.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de la Sierra resident at 12:54 p.m. Monday said that when he returned home, his landlord’s 16-year-old son was in the home although he knew he should not be there. The tenant chased the boy away and said he wanted to press charges. The landlord told deputies he was on his way to the scene. At 4:12 p.m., another Stinson resident notified deputies that the tenant was "very drunk" and "trying to start fights with everyone." A deputy could not find him.

BOLINAS –A woman on Brighton Avenue at 12:59 p.m. Monday complained about a drunk man with a walker yelling at people. The man was gone when a deputy arrived, and when the officer finally found the man, he was not drunk.

BOLINAS – A man and a woman about 1:45 p.m. Monday made separate complaints to deputies about illegal parking at Terrace and Park avenues. Officers ticketed several vehicles.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy at 2:30 p.m. Monday arrested a motorist on Highway 1 for driving while his license is suspended. After being issued a ticket, the man was released. but his vehicle was towed away and placed in 30-day storage.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 2:35 p.m. Monday received complaints about a yellow pickup truck parked on Brighton Beach and of illegal parking at Terrace and Park avenues. The pickup was removed from the beach.

TOMALES – A Tomales-Petaluma Road resident at 2:38 p.m. Monday told deputies a tenant had screamed in her ear so loudly the ear now hurt. The woman said she didn’t like the man’s "attitude" and wanted him out of her house.

DOGTOWN – Deputies and Highway Patrol officers responded at 12:07 p.m. Sunday when a vehicle overturned on Highway 1.

WOODACRE – Deputies at 1 p.m. Sunday received a complaint from a resident who said her 21-year-old brother was beating her and was trying to strangle her. She said her mother was in the house.

DILLON BEACH – A woman on Marine View Drive at 2:11 p.m. Sunday complained of juveniles in a campground peeking into the women’s restroom the previous night.

BOLINAS – A five-year-old boy suffered blisters to his shoulder and back at 2:29 p.m. Sunday when a cup of coffee spilled on his shoulder, back, and chest. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 3:32 p.m. Sunday told deputies he had lost his wallet downtown on Saturday.

INVERNESS – A resident at 4:25 p.m. Sunday complained about her landlord’s cutting her plants. A deputy advised the landlord she was required to give a tenant at least 24-hour notice before entering the tenant’s home.

STINSON BEACH – State Park rangers responded at 5:15 p.m. Sunday when a 53-year-old man with a history of heart problems had trouble breathing.

STINSON BEACH – An Alameda Patio resident at 5:37 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that 10 youths aged 10 to 15 were beginning to build a bonfire on the beach. She said she had asked them not to, but they did not appear to be leaving. A deputy advised the group not to build a fire.

DILLON BEACH – A woman called deputies from Marine View Drive at 6:26 p.m. Sunday and reported her 57-year-old husband had tried to strangle her in her parents’ home. She asked about getting a court to issue a restraining order against him. Deputies told her how to get one and arranged for her to immediately get a court-issued emergency protective order.

INVERNESS PARK – A man at 8:16 p.m. Sunday reported hearing a gunshot along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, possibly from a shotgun, and then hearing the "whoosh" of a projectile.

DILLON BEACH – Deputies at 8:31 p.m. Sunday received a report from Marine View Drive of juveniles drinking in a car.

DILLON BEACH – A Summer Street resident at 9:58 p.m. Sunday complained about fireworks. The fireworks were over by the time a deputy arrived.

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de Occidente resident at 10:01 p.m. Sunday complained about a dozen loud people with four bonfires on the beach. When a deputy contacted the people, all were cooperative, and three of the four groups left the beach.

STINSON BEACH – A helicopter was dispatched at 9:23 p.m. Saturday when a 17-month-old child on Seadrift Road had trouble breathing. However, there was too much fog for the chopper to land, and the infant was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

STINSON BEACH – After a motorist tailgated an ambulance, the driver at 9:53 p.m. Saturday was stopped at the firehouse and arrested on charges of drunk driving.

OLEMA – Deputies and medics responded at 10:44 p.m. when a man was spotted on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard clutching his chest and reporting chest pains.

BOLINAS – A deputy at 12:02 a.m. found four people milling around a vehicle that had gotten stuck in a ditch along Highway 1 while turning around. The officer arranged for the vehicle to be towed. He also noted they had all been drinking and sent them home to Mill Valley in a taxi.

POINT REYES STATION – A party that started after 1 a.m. Saturday following a high school prom turned into a brawl on Viento Way. Witnesses said the fight began when students from Tomales and Point Reyes Station began quarreling with each other. A youth from Tomales was roughed up by a young man from Point Reyes Station, but no one received major injuries.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 4:28 a.m. Saturday complained about a group of loud youths walking along Highway 1 near the school and yelling. She said the group was now walking through her property. A deputy could not find the group, only two youths in a vehicle.

CHILENO VALLEY – A Highway Patrol officer at 5:36 p.m. Friday reported a vehicle had run off a road and flipped at least twice going down an embankment. At 8:31 a.m. the next morning, a woman reported that a man may have stolen property from the vehicle after it crashed.

FOREST KNOLLS – A man at 12:32 p.m. Saturday reported that someone had thrown a beer bottle against his house the previous evening.

WOODACRE – A resident at 1:45 p.m. Saturday complained about vendors selling cherries without a license along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in San Geronimo. A deputy determined the vendors had a county license.

BOLINAS – A bartender at 7:24 p.m. Friday reported that someone had broken into a customer’s truck, which was parked on Wharf Road. He said the truck’s stereo had been damaged.

BOLINAS – A woman at 9:12 p.m. Friday complained that "loud and obnoxious" people had been on Brighton Avenue for awhile. A deputy contacted four cooperative males and moved them along.

STINSON BEACH – US Park Police at 9:52 p.m. Friday reported 50 people with drugs were partying on Arenal Avenue. Deputies found a group of "cooperative" youths and moved them along.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 10:11 a.m. Friday received a reported of "possible vandalism to a park vehicle." Deputies took a report but concluded the case was a civil-law dispute.

STINSON BEACH – Seadrift subdivision security officers and town firefighters responded to Seadrift Road at 1:47 p.m. Friday when someone working with a power saw received an "extreme" cut to one hand.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 3:31 p.m. Friday reported she and her boyfriend were quarreling in a home on Mesa Road. A deputy stood by while she removed her property from the house. The officer gave her advice and warned her against returning.

WOODACRE – A resident at 12:24 a.m. Friday asked what to do about a band playing on Madrone Avenue. The man said he would contact them in the daytime and did not want deputies to act immediately. However, he added, he will file a complaint if the problem persists.

SAN GERONIMO – A green Acura stolen in Fairfax was found at 2:02 a.m. Friday on Meadow View Way. Fairfax Police said the vehicle should be towed away and stored.

INVERNESS – A woman at 10:09 a.m. last Thursday reported $1,500 worth of sailing gear had been stolen from a wrecked boat while it was being salvaged. She said other gear from the boat had also been stolen, but it had been recovered. The woman gave deputies the name of a suspect.

WOODACRE – A citizen on Conifer Way flagged down a fire engine at 1:08 p.m. last Thursday and turned over somebody’s lost wallet. A firefighter turned the wallet over to a deputy.

WOODACRE – A man on Garden Way at 4:10 p.m. last Thursday reported losing his wallet, which contained his credit cards, driver’s license, AAA card, and $35 in cash. He asked an officer if he could drive his car while waiting for a new license.

INVERNESS – Deputies and firefighters responded at 7:54 p.m. last Wednesday after a woman reported that a second woman’s eyes were rolling back in her head, that she was incoherent, and that blood was running from her mouth. The first woman said the second woman, who had injured her shoulder five weeks earlier, appeared to be having a seizure. The second woman had come home sick earlier that day, she said.

SAN GERONIMO – A deputy at 11:22 p.m. last Wednesday provided help to a citizen stranded at Nicasio Valley Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 11:14 a.m. last Wednesday told deputies she had been evicted from a ranch two weeks earlier and that her travel trailer had now been stolen – possibly by somebody in Sonoma County. She later called deputies back and told them to ignore her earlier call. Her cousin, she said, has the trailer.

BOLINAS – An Olema-Bolinas Road resident at 11:20 a.m. last Wednesday told deputies a dog was wrongfully swimming in Bolinas Lagoon. A deputy checked with the county Open Space District, where staff said the woman was right and that it is illegal for dogs to swim in the lagoon. A deputy could not find the dog.

INVERNESS PARK – Deputies this week said that a May 14 accident involving a patrolcar on Upper Roberts drive did not occur in the way it was first reported to The Light. The initial report was that the patrolcar damaged a door when it hit a tree. On Wednesday, the report was corrected to say the damage was done when one patrolcar accidentally backed into another patrolcar.

SAN GERONIMO – An 11-year-old boy at 2:16 p.m. last Wednesday asked a deputy if there are any laws that govern bringing condoms to school.

WOODACRE – A San Geronimo Valley Drive resident at 7:25 p.m. May 20 reported that two saddles together worth $5,000 had been stolen off the back of her vehicle when it was parked at a ranch.

NICASIO – A man on Nicasio Valley Road at 9:45 p.m. May 20 reported losing a cell phone at a ranch which he couldn’t identify but where he had been entertaining for a party.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s phone number is 663-1151.

 

May 22, 2003 Sheriff's Calls

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 7:39 a.m. Monday reported a thief had stolen her credit card and used it.

BOLINAS – Deputies received a report at 3:02 p.m. Saturday that a 39-year-old resident was fighting with his employer. At 7:21 a.m. Monday, the resident complained he had received at least seven calls from a fax machine since 6:20 a.m. A deputy, however, determined this was not a case of someone harassing him.

INVERNESS PARK – A resident at noon Monday notified a deputy that a friend from out of town, whom he had let stay at his house, stole his bank card when he left and made $295 worth of purchases with it. The former friend also stole the resident’s driver’s license, a new backpack, a suitcase, and all the money in the home.

DILLON BEACH – The manager of a business on Beach Avenue at 2:38 p.m. Monday told deputies that an employee on his last payday had run up a tab and then quit without notice.

FOREST KNOLLS – A 58-year-old Sir Francis Drake resident at 3:20 p.m. Monday summoned medics and deputies after he tripped and fell in the laundry room of a trailer park. The man was bleeding from the noise and had a bruise above one eyebrow.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 3:29 p.m. Monday received a complaint from a woman on Highway 1, who said she was receiving harassing phone calls. The woman said she had already received two calls that day, adding she suspected the caller was a restaurant owner. She said the restaurateur was angry with her after receiving several phone calls from other members of her church, claiming the restaurant’s advertising was "anti-Catholic." The restaurant has said the woman’s priest urged his parishioners to complain but that some who did so had not seen the ad and weren’t sure why it was allegedly anti-Catholic.

NICASIO – A man at 4:34 p.m. Monday reported his wife had assaulted him that day and two days earlier. A deputy determined the man had not been assaulted but gave him advice on securing a court order restraining her.

HICKS VALLEY – An Inverness man, who had been accidentally hit with a baseball bat, was being driven to a hospital when he became disoriented and the driver stopped at the firehouse. Deputies and medics responded at 8:37 p.m. Sunday.

INVERNESS PARK – A resident at 9:53 a.m. Sunday reported a vandal had broken a window of her truck.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies and medics responded to A Street at 10 a.m. Sunday when a 91-year-old woman, who’d had a heart attack three weeks earlier, had trouble breathing.

BOLINAS – A man at 12:50 p.m. Sunday complained that numerous vehicles were illegally parked at Park and Terrace avenues. He asked deputies to ticket them. At 3:29 p.m., a woman also complained about the parked vehicles, which she said made it impossible for other vehicles to get past them. A deputy determined all the vehicles were parked legally.

INVERNESS – A 92-year-old woman with a history of heart problems fell down at 1:24 p.m. Sunday but did not show symptoms of a heart attack.

MUIR BEACH – A Sunset Way resident at 2:01 p.m. Sunday complained that "very noisy" jackhammers and cement mixers had been working nearby all day. A deputy contacted the workers and told them not to use jackhammers on Sundays. They agreed to stop.

BOLINAS – A man on Wharf Road at 5:56 p.m. Sunday reported that six drunk people were verbally harassing every passerby.

BOLINAS – A woman at 12:14 p.m. Saturday complained that people on Ocean Avenue had been playing loud rock music all day. After a deputy contacted a resident, the music was turned down.

POINT REYES STATION – A Highway 1 resident at 1:05 p.m. Saturday reported receiving two obscene calls from a stranger.

TOMALES – A Dillon Beach Road resident at 1:51 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that her roommate was acting strange and had asked her to call for help. Although officers said her speech sounded slurred, the woman said neither of them had been drinking.

WHITE’S HILL – Deputies at 1:51 p.m. Saturday received a report that a bicyclist had crashed in a two-foot-deep ditch along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard east of the summit. Three minutes later, a man called deputies to say the bicyclist was a woman who had been struck by a vehicle. Deputies, medics, and the Highway Patrol responded.

POINT REYES STATION – An A Street resident at 6:59 p.m. Saturday complained that her neighbor was burning tree branches in a pit. Deputies referred the matter to county firefighters.

FOREST KNOLLS – Medics responded at 8:43 p.m. Friday when a 52-year-old man, who’d previously had a heart attack, reported chest pains. Medics transported him to Marin General Hospital by ambulance.

DILLON BEACH – A woman on Marine View Drive at 10:32 p.m. Friday complained about loud music at the campground. A deputy quieted adults at a loud party.

INVERNESS – Medics and deputies responded when resident at 11:32 p.m. Friday reported his six-week-old girl appeared to be having a heart attack, noting she was having difficulty breathing and was turning blue. The man later said that after he put a saline solution in her nose, she began to get her normal color back.

DILLON BEACH – Deputies at 7:49 a.m. Saturday received a report that a 76-year-old Kailua Way resident was choking on phlegm.

SAN GERONIMO – Deputies at 1:37 p.m. Friday received word that a riderless horse wearing a saddle was running down Sylvestris Drive. A deputy determined that two horses had broken free while their riders were having lunch but that everything was "okay."

OLEMA – A downtown merchant at 2:37 p.m. Friday reported that a man in his 30s, who possibly had been drinking and had psychological problems, was disturbing customers. He was not injured, she added. A deputy took the man, who turned out to be 56, to a detoxification center.

LUCAS VALLEY ROAD – A resident at 8:40 p.m. last Thursday reported two young adults were riding off-road vehicles in Open Space District land near Camino Margarita.

STINSON BEACH – The Humane Society at 10:49 a.m. last Thursday asked a deputy to shoot a deer, which had been injured in traffic on Highway 1, to put it out of its misery. An officer found the deer dead beside the road.

FOREST KNOLLS – An Aztec Avenue resident at 10:52 a.m. last Thursday said his neighbors are restoring some old buildings, including two that a survey has found to be on his property. He asked how to get the construction stopped, and a deputy gave him advice.

NICASIO – The foreman of a ranch on Old Rancheria Road at 11:20 a.m. last Thursday reported an electric guitar, amplifier, and foot pedal were missing from a shed.

BOLINAS – A man at 10 p.m. last Wednesday told officers a deer had been hit in traffic on Highway 1 south of the Bolinas Wye. A deputy found the deer dead beside the road.

NICASIO – A resident at 8:53 a.m. last Wednesday reported that a 37-year-old woman was having problems going through alcohol withdrawal and that her eyes were rolled back. He noted that paramedics had dealt with her the previous day.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD – A sportscar ran off the road and through a fence on the west side of Rocky Hill at 10:12 a.m. last Wednesday. The car ultimately came to rest in a field, and the Highway Patrol handled the mishap.

TOMALES – A man on Middle Road at 1:23 p.m. last Wednesday reported that when a tenant was evicted, he vandalized his dwelling. A deputy gave the man advice regarding civil litigation.

PLATFORM BRIDGE – Deputies at 4:13 p.m. last Wednesday received a report that a red Datsun, whose left-front wheel was about to come off, was stopped at the bridge and the driver was trying to direct traffic around his car. Deputies referred the matter to the Highway Patrol, but by the time an officer arrived, the driver had tightened the wheel’s lug nuts and driven off.

INVERNESS PARK – A deputy while on duty at 5 p.m. last Wednesday drove into a tree on Upper Roberts Drive, damaging his patrolcar’s door.

BOLINAS – A resident at 6:25 p.m. last Wednesday complained that another woman was living in a Toyota pickup with a camper shell at one end of Laurel Road. A deputy moved the camper along.

OLEMA – A woman at 5:53 p.m. May 13 reported a Toyota 4X4 had hit a deer on Highway 1 south of town. The truck was disabled in the accident and needed to be towed.

May 15, 2003 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS – A resident at 1:38 p.m. last Wednesday reported a vandal had loosened the oil plug on his vehicle while it was parked on Wharf Road, causing oil to run out and damaging the engine. The resident at 6:48 a.m. Friday called deputies again, saying a court has ordered another man to stay away from him; however, the second man while on Wharf Road let his dog out of his car to fight with the resident’s dog. The resident added, he merely walked away, and there was no fight. The two men have a long-running scrap going over money.

DILLON BEACH – A woman on Marine View Drive at 9:19 a.m. Monday reported losing her cell phone on the beach.

INVERNESS – An Escondido Way resident at 11 a.m. last Thursday reported a burglar had gone into her basement and stolen a sump pump, miscellaneous clothing, and sculpture. She estimated the total loss at $410.

STINSON BEACH – A lifeguard at 2:52 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies a plastic bag containing human ashes and bearing a coroner’s tag had washed up at the north end of the public beach. Detectives traced the ashes to Fairmont Memorial Park, which told them the ashes had been turned over to family member in July 2001.

BOLINAS – A deputy responded to Ocean Avenue at 9:30 a.m. May 6 when two men got into a dispute over some tires. As the deputy was approaching the scene, a three-year-old German shepherd bit him on the back of the knee, leaving seven puncture wounds. The Human Society picked up the dog and is keeping it under quarantine pending a dangerous-animal hearing. The deputy’s wounds were checked at Petaluma Valley Hospital, and he took the rest of the day off but did not miss subsequent shifts. The two men decided to settle the tire dispute on their own.

NICASIO – An eight-month-pregnant woman went to see her ex-husband on Nicasio Valley Road because she needed money, but the 31-year-old man got angry and shook her, she notified deputies at 9:33 p.m. Monday.

STINSON BEACH – Medics responded at 2:13 a.m. Tuesday when a woman reported a 34-year-old man, who had earlier had a stomach ache, now had severe pain in his kidney area. She noted he had a history of kidney stones.

WOODACRE – A Carson Road resident at 3:34 a.m. Tuesday notified deputies that a stranger had just called and asked that he place a 911 call. The resident said he did not know what city the stranger had called from. The person needing help was supposedly on Redwood Drive, and officers went to a Redwood Drive home but found nothing amiss.

POINT REYES STATION – The Highway Patrol responded at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday when a motorist "flipped" his car on Highway 1, deputies reported. Officers noted the vehicle’s occupants were up and walking around.

BOLINAS – A resident at 12:36 p.m. Saturday reported property had been taken from her late mother’s house and that a fence had been knocked down. A deputy concluded the damage was not a result of vandalism. At 10:43 a.m. Monday, the woman called deputies again, saying she had cut her hands and feet when she had to break her way out of an electric vehicle.

WOODACRE – A Redwood Drive resident at 10:43 a.m. Monday reported hearing three gunshots. While she was on the phone with deputies, a fourth shot was fired, she said. All was quiet when officers arrived.

NICASIO – A man reported that a 37-year-old woman, who had been drinking in a vehicle parked in front of her residence, had fainted a hour earlier and was now unresponsive. He said she had a history of seizures.

TOMALES – A man on Middle Road at 4:35 p.m. Monday accused a woman of arranging for an $8,000 milk tank to be removed from his property. The tank was left over from a dairy operation, and the woman who took it claims she owns it, a deputy reported.

INVERNESS PARK – A woman at 9:29 p.m. Monday complained about a man yelling on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. When a deputy responded, he found a man singing and moved him along.

MARSHALL – Medics responded at 1:49 p.m. Sunday when a biker flipped his motorcycle on a trail.

MARSHALL – Deputies and firefighters at 3:31 p.m. Sunday received a report that a catamaran had overturned a quarter mile north of the boatworks. People in small boats were able to rescue the skipper, but the "catamaran was turtled and stuck in the mud," an officer noted.

BOLINAS – A man at 4:06 p.m. Sunday complained that vehicles at Terrace and Park avenues were parked so far into the street that any emergency vehicle would have trouble getting past. A deputy ticketed one vehicle.

WOODACRE – A Central Avenue resident at 11:20 p.m. Saturday told deputies she had heard two gunshots. A deputy found nothing amiss.

WOODACRE – A resident at 10:34 a.m. Saturday notified deputies she had been hiking on Fire Road when she "found tons of beer bottles and cigarette butts and a child’s report card." She said she believes the card belongs to one of the youths who party there regularly.

DILLON BEACH – A Park Avenue resident at 3:04 p.m. Saturday reported her cell phone, its charger, sunglasses, and two sets of keys had been stolen from her two vehicles.

POINT REYES STATION – Two vehicles collided on Highway 1 north of town at 3:14 p.m. Saturday. No one was injured, and the Highway Patrol handled the mishap.

WOODACRE – A woman at 4:28 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that two young men were trying to break into a house on Central Avenue. She said they had parked a pickup truck nearby.

LAGUNITAS – A Portola Avenue resident at 8:12 p.m. Friday asked deputies to remove her landlord from her rental unit. She said he had been there 15 minutes. The landlord was gone when a deputy arrived, but at 8:57 p.m., he called deputies about a dispute with the tenant and said he would file eviction papers the next day.

BOLINAS – An Office of Emergency Services engine at 8:15 p.m. Friday came upon a non-injury crash on Highway 1. The driver was not present.

WOODACRE – A Garden Way resident at 11:01 p.m. Friday complained about "loud noise" coming from the Improvement Club for the past two hours. A deputy contacted the noisemakers and club staff, both of whom said they would keep the noise down and move it inside. The officer described the noise as coming from an "ethnic drum fest including fire dancers outside."

POINT REYES STATION – Medics took a man to Petaluma Valley Hospital last Thursday after he hit his head on a woodsplitter. The woodsplitter, which was being moved, was on a trailer.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 8 p.m. last Thursday reported a 55-year-old man was very sick and throwing up purple vomit. The man, who has a history of heart problems, was too weak to stand, she added.

TOMALES – A woman at 9:57 p.m. last Thursday reported there was a black bull on Dillon Beach Road. A deputy notified the owner.

WHITE’S HILL – A woman driving a VW van that burns vegetable oil instead of gasoline ran out of fuel, and at 10:20 p.m. last Thursday a deputy found her parked beside Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The officer gave her a ride home "to get a gallon of Mazola."

TOMALES – The Highway Patrol responded at 11:15 p.m. last Thursday when a vehicle overturned, coming to rest on its side, at Highway 1 and Tomales-Petaluma Road. The crash flattened the front tires, and the vehicle had to be towed away.

WOODACRE – A Carson Road resident at 11:57 p.m. last Thursday told deputies she heard what sounded like gunshots. However, she said, the noise, which came from Redwood Drive, might have been caused by a speeding car.

DILLON BEACH – Medics responded to Kailua Way at 9:24 a.m. last Thursday when a 77-year-old woman with a history of medical problems developed chest pains.

MARSHALL – Medics responded at 6:25 p.m. last Thursday when two motorcyclists collided on a dirt-bike track near the Soulejule Reservoir off the Marshall-Petaluma Road. One biker bumped his head, and both motorcyclists suffered broken left legs.

LAGUNITAS – An Arroyo Road resident on May 6 complained about a juvenile party the night of May 3. She said a juvenile host had charged guests $15 to $35 each to attend and had paid off a parent to leave for the night. At 8:43 p.m. last Wednesday, the resident again called deputies, saying she was irate that no deputy had responded when she complained about the party. Deputies said the only complaint they had received at the time concerned a "minor parking problem."

POINT REYES STATION – A drywall worker at 8 a.m. last Wednesday reported his toolbox had been stolen from the West Marin School gymnasium, which is under construction.

BOLINAS – A Fern Road resident at 10:44 a.m. May 6 told deputies that her roommate, whom she is evicting, had taken a propane tank into his room and locked the door. She said she wanted the tank removed. At 12:09 p.m., the roommate called deputies to complain that his landlord had pushed him and grabbed a phone from his hand and twisted his hand.

BOLINAS – A man at 1 p.m. May 6 complained that someone, who sounded drunk, was screaming profanities near the community center. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s phone number is 663-1151.

May 8, 2003 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS – A woman at 11:15 a.m. Monday notified deputies that a thief had stolen two laying hens from the chicken coop in her backyard. She said the carcasses of the chickens, which together were worth $7, were found in her driveway. She said because of the coop’s design, an animal could not have opened the cage door.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Montezuma Avenue resident at 10:12 p.m. Saturday complained to deputies that his wife had received a call from a pizza parlor to come in and pick up the pizza and beer her family had supposedly ordered. When his wife told the pizza parlor they had not placed any order, the merchant became "belligerent," the resident said.

DOGTOWN – A school supervisor at 5 p.m. Monday reported a student had stolen CDs, a hand-held computer, and computer-game software from her.

OLEMA – The campground at 2:25 p.m. Sunday reported a Volkswagen van had checked in late and left early without paying their $23 fee. The campground gave deputies the van’s license plate number.

BOLINAS – A 99-year-old Lauf Ranch Road resident on the morning of April 27 was found to have died in her sleep.

WOODACRE – A man at 10:17 Sunday told deputies that a maroon minivan parked in a driveway was protruding into Maple Road. Officers were also told a woman was living in the van, but they couldn’t find it.

SAN GERONIMO – An art teacher at 11:01 a.m. Sunday reported that over the weekend a vandal had used a plastic pipe to damage swallow nests under the eaves of school buildings. She requested extra patrols in the area.

LAGUNITAS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 3:26 p.m. Sunday complained that someone has been using her credit card fraudulently on the Internet. A deputy gave her advice.

BOLINAS – A Humane Society officer at 9:52 p.m. Monday asked a deputy to meet a citizen, who was looking after an injured dog along Olema-Bolinas Road. The Humane Society officer said the dog needed to get to a veterinarian as soon as possible, and she asked the deputy to meet her halfway between Bolinas at the Humane Society facility in Novato.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Rosario Road resident at 10:02 p.m. complained that a second Rosario Road man, who has been having a series of problems at his home, had come to the resident’s driveway and yelled profanities at him. The resident said the man did not make sense and might have been drinking.

WOODACRE – A woman at 10:42 p.m. Monday told deputies she was concerned by the psychological welfare of her boyfriend and asked officers to check on him.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Candelero Avenue resident at 1:05 p.m. Monday reported losing a cell phone in San Anselmo. He said San Anselmo Police would not take a report over the phone, so deputies took a report as a courtesy to another law-enforcement agency.

WOODACRE – A Madrone Avenue resident at 1:40 p.m. Monday reported a vandal had spray painted a rim and hubcap on his Toyota truck. He said he’d heard a noise outside about 1 a.m. the previous night but hadn’t gone outside to check on it.

BOLINAS – The Highway Patrol at 2:30 p.m. Monday received a report that a red pickup truck had collided head-on with a rust-colored Acura at Highway 1 and Horseshoe Hill Road. The collision blocked both lanes of Highway 1.

WOODACRE – A resident at 3:35 p.m. Monday reported that a neighbor, aged between 30 and 40, was banging on the door. Deputies, however, reported the man was "uncooperative" in providing more information and hung up on them.

FALLON – A woman at 3:41 p.m. Monday told deputies her ex-husband through a mistake had received in the mail her checking account information. She said he looked through the information and is now using it against her in court. A deputy gave her advice.

STINSON BEACH – Seadrift subdivision security at 10:34 p.m. Sunday reported a group of youths were gathered in the area of Calle del Arroyo and Sacramento Patio, apparently for a party. A deputy later reported a "small gathering [had been] abated."

WHITE HOUSE POOL – County firefighters at 3:08 a.m. Sunday reported a purple Neon model car had run completely off the road and was in a ditch full of water.

INVERNESS PARK – A Portola Avenue resident at 9:05 a.m. Saturday notified deputies that a piece of wood attached to a cement piling had fallen from a retaining wall and was blocking the street. The county Public Works Department handled the mishap.

WOODACRE – Deputies at 9:47 a.m. Saturday helped a 76-year-old woman, who had fallen, get off the floor.

MARSHALL – A Highway 1 resident, whose home is on the shore of Tomales Bay, at 11:53 a.m. Saturday told deputies a boat anchored offshore of his residence has become an illegal "boat habitation." Twice before in recent weeks, the resident complained about the boat running its generator late at night. He said a deputy had talked to the boat’s owner the previous week, but it was still there.

POINT REYES STATION – A 25-year-old man at 1:09 p.m. Saturday reported severe abdominal pains.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 2:11 a.m. Saturday complained about a large party with music that had "loud bass." The resident said the party was in the area of Candelero Road and Forest Drive. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

LAGUNITAS – Deputies and firefighters at 10:58 a.m. Friday opened a locked vehicle whose engine was running.

NICASIO – A Nicasio Valley Road resident at 3:15 p.m. Friday told deputies a man was knocking at her door and that she was afraid of him. She said the man’s vehicle had gone into a ditch and that she had seen him act aggressively toward a female neighbor before coming to her door. She described him as wearing a handlebar mustache.

STINSON BEACH – Medics at 9:07 p.m. last Thursday responded to Calle del Mar, when a diabetic had a problem.

MARSHALL – A man called deputies from Highway 1 at 9:27 p.m. last Thursday to report a boat at the end of a pier was on fire. A deputy reported back there was no boat on fire, just someone having a barbecue at the end of a dock.

BOLINAS – A nurse at 9:35 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that at 70-year-old woman was having respiratory problems and was too weak to call 911 herself. A rescue helicopter was dispatched to transport her to a hospital.

BOLINAS – A landlady on Dogwood Road at 10 p.m. last Thursday reported a verbal disturbance caused by a tenant who had been ordered to leave by Sunday. She said the woman was downstairs, drunk, and yelling.

BOLINAS – A man at 2 p.m. last Thursday said his landlord’s son and others may be trying to sabotage him with drugs. For the past two months, he said, it felt as if there were drugs in his food although he had no direct evidence of any drugs. He told officers he just wanted his concern on the record.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman last Wednesday went to the Sheriff’s Substation to complain about a political sign, which she considered "anti-American," at the south end of town. A deputy who went to look found a Tomales woman with a sign that said, "Israel Equals Nazism." The sign was not blocking the sidewalk, he reported.

BOLINAS – A 48-year-old resident of the Big Mesa at 9:46 a.m. last Wednesday reported having felt dizzy and dehydrated since 5:30 a.m. The man has been taking medication for psychological problems but had not changed any doses, officers noted. He was transported by ambulance to Marin General Hospital.

POINT REYES STATION – A Mesa Road resident at 4:31 last Wednesday said his neighbors were cutting down trees and might not have a permit to do so. A deputy determined there was no violation of the law.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – Deputies at 8:02 p.m. April 29 received a report that a man had been trying to photograph an elk near McClure’s Beach, but teenagers chased it. After trying to get them to leave, he sped away in his vehicle striking a teenager, who was on foot. The Highway Patrol handled the matter.

WOODACRE – A Laurel Avenue resident at 10:24 a.m. April 29 reported a burglar had stolen a $150 stereo from his car.

STINSON BEACH – A Buena Vista Avenue resident at 4:18 p.m. April 29 reported receiving suspicious calls from a North Carolina company wanting to confirm her husband’s employment.

May 1, 2003 Sheriff's Calls

STINSON BEACH – A Calle de Sierra resident on April 22 reported that a 29-year old woman had stolen three checks from him and cashed them over several months for a total of $2,130.

BOLINAS – An Evergreen Road resident at 8 a.m. April 22 asked that a deputy pick up an old .22 rifle at the man’s house and have it destroyed.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road merchant at 1 p.m. Saturday reported a bicycle was missing and that another man had been seen riding it on Brighton Avenue.

NICASIO – The county Department of Public Works at 7:30 a.m. Monday reported a thief had stolen the toolbox from a motorized wood-chipper parked in the corporation yard.

POINT REYES STATION – A Highway 1 resident at 4:07 p.m. Monday complained about trespassers who, she said, at night frequent a vacant lot where a home is under construction.

STINSON BEACH – An Alameda Patio resident at 9:56 p.m. Sunday told deputies she’d heard someone outside knocking and had seen someone shining a flashlight through a window. She subsequently reported seeing a flashlight moving through her house.

LAGUNITAS – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 11:05 p.m. Sunday reported hearing a scream outside her house.

BOLINAS – An Iris Road resident at 8:12 a.m. Sunday told deputies he had found some keys on the beach and would leave them at the market in case someone goes around town looking for them.

CHILENO VALLEY – A woman at 10:36 a.m. Sunday reported a bicyclist had crashed but was conscious and breathing. However, the rider may have broken a shoulder, she said. An ambulance was dispatched to transport the rider to a hospital. However, when deputies reached the scene, they found there were also two other injured bicyclists, who had collided with the fallen bicyclist. A deputy said they were taken to a hospital in Petaluma, with one rider possibly suffering a concussion. Moreover, as deputies were en route to Chileno Valley, they came upon a separate three-bicycle accident with injures in Hicks Valley. A deputy reported the Hicks Valley crash occurred in the same manner as the Chileno Valley crash.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 11:02 a.m. Sunday notified deputies that a 58-year-old man, who has been receiving chemotherapy, had passed out and was unconscious for a few minutes. The man was now conscious but weak, she said.

BOLINAS – A 48-year-old man called deputies from a phone on Terrace Avenue at 1:34 p.m. Sunday and reported he had developed chest pains while hiking. Deputies said the man was having difficulty breathing, his face was flushed, he was sweating, he had been in pain all day, and he felt dizzy. Officers added that the man was on psychotropic drugs for anxiety.

MARSHALL – Deputies at 2:10 p.m. Sunday received a report of a boat in distress near Pierce Point. An officer said that looking across the bay he could see a large cabin-cruiser that had been stranded on shore when the tide went out. A Coast Guard cutter responded from San Francisco.

BOLINAS – An elderly man fell down in front of a business on Wharf Road, a caller notified deputies at 2:56 p.m. Sunday. However, the caller, whom deputies described as "uncooperative," would only say the man was lying down in someone else’s car. Then the caller hung up. The man was transported by ambulance to Marin General Hospital.

FOUR CORNERS – A firefighter at 3:52 p.m. Sunday notified deputies a green sports utility vehicle was reportedly stalled in the intersection of Nicasio Valley and Point Reyes-Petaluma roads. The firefighter said the information came from a retired Highway Patrolman, who had stressed that the SUV was "in a very dangerous spot." Deputies referred the matter to the Highway Patrol.

STINSON BEACH – A Highway 1 restaurateur at 6:26 p.m. Sunday reported that a Sonoma County customer had left her purse in his establishment. He said he had left a message to pick it up on her answering machine.

WOODACRE – A resident at 6:26 p.m. Sunday reported having a dispute with a neighbor over their common boundary line and whose shrubbery was being trimmed. The dispute between the neighbors is ongoing, and on April 17 deputies were summoned to stand by while a surveyor set up his equipment.

INVERNESS – A man on Rannoch Way at 7:58 p.m. Saturday reported a 52-year-old woman had stepped on broken glass and had a half-inch deep cut in her foot. Inverness firefighters responded.

MARSHALL – A Highway 1 resident, whose home is on the shore of Tomales Bay, at 8:07 p.m. Saturday reported that a boat with a loud generator was anchored 50 feet offshore. The resident on April 20 told deputies the generator had run until 4 a.m. the previous night, and officers at that time asked him to call back if it happened again. When he called back, they gave him advice.

TOMALES – Firefighters at 9:22 p.m. Saturday reported a vehicle had overturned on Highway 1. Firemen said they had received no information on injuries. At 10:16 p.m., a deputy found a 25-year-old man waiting downtown for a ride because his vehicle had overturned.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 9:49 p.m. Saturday reported a 13-year-old girl was unresponsive, lethargic, and had complained all day of a headache. She had also vomited. The man said the girl had been drinking beer and that her problems might be "alcohol-related." Deputies made a note that the girl’s parents were on the scene.

NICASIO – A Nicasio Valley Road resident at 3:43 a.m. Sunday said his household had been awakened by an "explosion" and the screeching of tires. As it turned out, he said, a motorist had just collided with his front porch, which was now "completely gone," and had also struck his car.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman called deputies at 11:28 a.m. Saturday from Rosario Road to find out where her car was left when she was arrested April 20. Deputies gave her advice.

BOLINAS – A woman at 12:09 p.m. Saturday complained that at 70-year-old, barrel-chested man had just urinated at a bench near the town park. She asked to have a deputy move him along.

WOODACRE – A woman at 12:26 p.m. Saturday reported that a group of juveniles with black ski caps, camouflage clothing, and rifles were at Carson Road and Sylvan Way. A deputy could not find them, and a resident walking a dog in the area reported seeing nothing amiss.

BOLINAS – A deputy at 2:41 p.m. Saturday went to the Big Mesa to check on a man’s sanity, but the man was not there.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road merchant at 4:41 p.m. Saturday complained of a physical assault involving a woman that has created several disturbances in town recently. The woman volunteered to be taken to the county crisis unit for a 72-hour evaluation.

BOLINAS – A deputy at 5:02 p.m. Saturday found a baby seal that had washed up on the beach. The officer notified the Marine Mammal Center and stood by until center staff arrived.

SAN GERONIMO – Deputies at 9:29 p.m. Friday found an unoccupied car that had run off the road at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Nicasio Valley Road. Deputies notified the Highway Patrol.

MARSHALL – A Highway 1 resident at 12:09 a.m. Saturday reported her sleeping three-year-old daughter was locked in the family car. The woman said a lock, which had become bent, had locked itself.

STINSON BEACH – A Highway 1 resident at 12:52 a.m. Saturday reported a 31-year-old suicidal woman might be at the beach. She said the woman has a history of depression.

STINSON BEACH – Deputies at 4:28 p.m. Saturday received a report that a 42-year-old Avenida Olema resident had told her husband she felt like she was having a heart attack. He said she was having chest pains, was sweaty, and had been vomiting. He noted she’d had teeth extracted two days earlier.

WOODACRE – A resident at 8:30 a.m. Friday reported that someone without a permit was working at a Conifer Way site. The person could not be found.

DILLON BEACH – A man jogging on Dillon Beach Road at Oceana Drive last Thursday at 7:33 p.m. stopped at a house to call deputies and report hearing four to eight gunshots.

OLEMA – Deputies at 10:13 p.m. last Thursday were told a vehicle had run into a guardrail and was blocking a traffic lane somewhere in the vicinity of Highway 1 and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Officers did not find anything amiss in the area.

NICASIO – An 81-year-old Nicasio Valley Road resident was transported to Petaluma Valley Hospital at 1:58 a.m. Friday after she reported vomiting and having abdominal pain.

MUIR BEACH – A woman at 5:50 p.m. last Thursday reported that her cell phone in a leather case had been lost.

BOLINAS – An Elm Road resident at 7:17 p.m. last Wednesday told deputies that a male neighbor "just came over and smashed the window of her truck with a baseball bat," a deputy quoted her as saying. She noted a court had previously issued a temporary restraining order against him. Deputies subsequently arrested the man on charges of intent to terrorize.

SAN GERONIMO – A woman at 12:13 a.m. last Thursday reported hearing two gunshots that were so powerful her husband felt the vibrations. Neither of them heard any cars or voices at the time.

BOLINAS – A man called deputies from Wharf Road at 11:11 p.m. April 22 to complain of being assaulted by another man, but a deputy concluded there was no merit to the complaint.

DOGTOWN – A deputy at 2:48 a.m. last Wednesday cited a woman on a Sonoma County warrant for failing to appear in court on schedule.

FOREST KNOLLS – A caller at 9:55 a.m. April 22 reported that her father had thrown her out of their Rosario Road house. She said they had been in the backyard screaming at each other. The father, in turn, asked officers for help.

BOLINAS – A woman on Wharf Road at 6:49 p.m. April 22 asked deputies to give her a "ride to the mental ward." She asked that her pet bird be taken to the Humane Society. Officers noted she was calling from a payphone and "very angry."
