May 25, 2000 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS - A burglar stole a video-cassette recorder from a home on Horseshoe Hill Road. There was no sign of a forced entry.

RED ROCK - A woman told deputies that while she was parked at the nude beach, a thief stole a $200 tool kit from her Jeep.

STINSON BEACH - A man reported losing a cellular phone on the beach.

DILLON BEACH - A deputy at Elephant Rock around 8 a.m. cited a 26-year-old woman on charges of possessing drug paraphernalia.

BOLINAS - A vandal put glue in the lock of a man on Brighton Avenue.

POINT REYES STATION - A gallery worker reported her purse was stolen while she was on the job.

LAGUNITAS - A woman reported six or seven carloads of juveniles were parked at the Ink Wells at 7 p.m., yelling at passersby. The juveniles were gone when a deputy checked.

NICASIO - A resident at 10 p.m. complained about a man at the square having a loud conversation on a cellular telephone. When a deputy checked, he found the man's vehicle was stuck in a ditch and the man was calling a towing company for help.

STINSON BEACH - A vehicle overturned into Bolinas Lagoon at 2:15 p.m. Deputies notified the Highway Patrol and a towing company.

INVERNESS - A man at 3 p.m. complained that two parked vehicles were blocking Balmoral Way. A deputy ticketed the cars.

BOLINAS - A man at 7:30 p.m. reported that people, who were drunk and out of control, were driving vehicles on the beach. He said he was concerned someone might get injured. A deputy found no problems on the beach.

STINSON BEACH - A woman at 10:25 p.m. notified deputies that a raccoon had been struck by traffic on Highway 1. The Humane Society looked but could not find the raccoon.

BOLINAS - A man at 11 a.m. complained that his ex-wife was not cooperating with the weekly exchange of their four-year-old son. He asked for a deputy to stand by during the exchange.

STINSON BEACH - A woman told motorists, who parked on Francisco Patio, that it was a private street with "No Parking" signs, but they refused to move their vehicle. They told the resident they'd been parking there for years and were visiting some friends a few streets away.

OLEMA - A BMW at 12:20 p.m. ran into a ditch near the intersection of Highway 1 and Bear Valley Road, which left the car partly blocking the roadway. Deputies were notified that the car had a license plate missing and that another car was waiting on the shoulder of the road. Deputies summoned a tow truck, along with medics because one person was feeling light-headed.

WOODACRE - Deputies at 12:35 p.m. received a call that someone was vomiting blood, screaming, and "acting weird." The person was transported to a hospital.

STINSON BEACH - A woman at 2:30 p.m. Sunday complained about numerous illegally parked cars at Calle del Arroyo and Calle del Onda. She said they were blocking fire hydrants and even making it difficult for pedestrians to get by. Officers cited several vehicles.

STINSON BEACH - A resident at 3 p.m. Sunday complained that a vehicle was parked on the grass along Alameda Patio. It was gone when a deputy arrived.

BOLINAS - A resident complained about numerous vehicles parked illegally in the vicinity of Brighton and Park avenues.

LAGUNITAS - Medics at 4:20 p.m. Sunday responded to a Sir Francis Drake Boulevard address where someone appeared to be suffering from heat stroke.

STINSON BEACH - An anonymous caller at 8:20 p.m. complained about a loud party with amplified music at the community center, and asked for extra patrols in the area.

INVERNESS PARK - A deer was killed by traffic on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard near White House Pool about 9 p.m.

OLEMA - A motorist ran out of gas at 9:20 p.m. and told officers he did not belong to a towing service. Officers said they might not be able to help him.

SAN GERONIMO - A Meadow Way resident reported that in the last 10 minutes a burglar had broken into her car and had stolen her car stereo, a jacket, and a purse.

BOLINAS - A woman at 12:30 a.m. complained about hearing loud music from a party at Evergreen and Larch roads for the past hour.

WOODACRE - A Central Avenue mother said that as her children got out of a car at 1:40 a.m. after returning from a prom, they heard a woman screaming. Officers could not find anything amiss.

BOLINAS - A woman at 3 a.m. complained about loud music from a party on Dogwood Road. Deputies contacted the host, who agreed to turn down the music.

WOODACRE - A resident at 8:15 p.m. notified deputies that her husband had just left San Anselmo with a friend and was heading home. Officers were told the woman wanted her 27-year-old son to leave because his stepfather was upset by the way the son was keeping up the house and yard.

WOODACRE - The Improvement Club asked for extra patrols to keep juvenile trespassers from using the club swimming pool on hot nights.

STINSON BEACH - A woman at 10 p.m. complained about loud music outdoors at a business. Deputies contacted the merchant who said the music had run later than usual and that he would close it down for the night.

BOLINAS - A man reported that a crazy person was sleeping in a church at 12:20 a.m. A deputy contacted the person, who said he had been resting in the church when he got locked in. The deputy moved him along.

TOMALES - A woman reported there were juveniles at the elementary school at an odd hour and that there were no cars around.

DILLON BEACH - A woman on Cypress Avenue at 2:15 a.m. reported that a man had been assaulted with beer bottles at the beach. He was taken to an emergency room suffering from cuts and a numb head, she said.

TOMALES - A man at 5:20 a.m. noticed a broken window at a business. A deputy determined the merchant knew who broke the window and that it was an accident.

SAN GERONIMO - A vandal dug up the cup at the third tee of the golf course.

BOLINAS - A woman complained of being hit the previous day by golf balls flying off the Mesa. A deputy gave her advice.

SAN GERONIMO - A nighttime vandal used rocks to break windows at a church.

MUIR BEACH - National Park Police requested a backup to help them deal with 15 people smoking marijuana on Pacific Way. They later canceled their request for a backup.

BOLINAS - A car got stuck in a ditch at Mesa and Olema-Bolinas roads.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Rosario Road resident reported that a woman had come over, reported she had been beaten up, and then returned home.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman reported that she and her husband had a quarrel that almost turned violent. She refused to give officers his name but said she thought he was leaving.

FOREST KNOLLS - A vehicle overturned, but no one was hurt. Deputies referred the matter to the Highway Patrol.

 

May 18, 2000 Sheriff's Calls

BOLINAS - A deputy on Laurel Road at 9 p.m. arrested a man on an outstanding warrant and on charges of possessing amphetamine.

MARSHALL - A Highway 1 resident at 9 p.m. complained of receiving harassing phone calls from a contractor known only as "Al."

BOLINAS LAGOON - A man found a kayak drifting in the channel, brought it ashore, and told deputies he will keep it at his house for safekeeping and that whoever lost the boat should call him.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Rosario Road resident at 12:25 a.m. reported there were two men in their 40s on her property.

INVERNESS - Deputies at 9:10 p.m. notified the Highway Patrol that a tree branch had fallen across Inverness Way.

HICKS VALLEY - County firefighters at 9 a.m. notified deputies there was a cow on the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. Officers asked three ranchers to check their herds to determine who owns the cow.

NICASIO - A woman living along Nicasio Valley Road complained of receiving harassing phone calls from a woman who is an old acquaintance of her husband.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman reported her 15-year-old daughter was out of control and was currently in her bedroom yelling. Deputies determined the quarrel was over a pet.

OLEMA - A woman complained that a couple from Novato had spent the night at a campground and then refused to pay. A deputy, who abated the disturbance, noted the couple eventually paid their bill.

LAGUNITAS - A man reported that a van was blocking the Marin Municipal Water District gate at Chaparro and Alta avenues. Officers noted the van was registered to an owner in Novato.

OLEMA - A Highway 1 resident at 2:15 a.m. notified deputies that someone was walking around in his front yard. His dogs were barking, he said, and he had heard his front door open and then slam three minutes earlier.

WOODACRE - An Elm Road resident at 10:45 p.m. notified deputies that a vehicle that has been dumping garbage on his property had returned and was now parked around the corner.

FALLON - Deputies received a report that two or more Holstein cows were on the Fallon-Two Rock Road at 1:45 a.m. The cows were cleared from the roadway.

BOLINAS - Deputies received several complaints about people living in a tent at Poplar and Yucca roads. A deputy had earlier told the campers to move along, and they had indeed moved their tent, he reported.

MUIR BEACH - A man reported a fraud that involved a forgery of some documents and someone wiring money from London. A deputy gave him advice.

BOLINAS - A resident on Ocean Avenue reported a $537 mountain bicycle had been stolen from a garage. Deputies noted they had found the bicycle April 29 in the vehicle of an Orange County man who committed suicide earlier that day on Mount Tamalpais. The bicycle belonged to the suicide victim, a deputy noted.

BOLINAS - County Health and Human Services staff asked deputies if they had responded to a report that a drug user had hit a disabled person on Wharf Road the previous night.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman at 10:15 a.m. reported that while she was driving to work, she saw someone sticking a rifle or shotgun out the window of pickup parked in a large pullout north of town. The person with the gun was aiming toward Tomales Bay and into trees, she said.

NICASIO - A Nicasio Valley Road resident reported receiving a threatening fax from his landlord. A deputy gave him advice.

DILLON BEACH - An Oceana Drive resident at 3:30 p.m. said she had heard five gunshots about 100 yards behind her house but saw nothing amiss. A deputy found all was quiet when he arrived on the scene.

LAGUNITAS - Burglars stole property from a storage shed.

 

May 11, 2000 Sheriff's Calls

STINSON BEACH - The landlord of a San Joaquin Patio home notified deputies that someone has repeatedly broken or removed outdoor lights at the home.

FALLON - A woman reported that a burglar had stolen a cellular phone and camera from a shed.

NATIONAL SEASHORE - Deputies received a 911 hangup call and got a ranch's answering machine when they called back. When an officer checked, he found the call had been placed by a four-year-old girl, who told her mother she dialed 911 when her dog fell down. She patted the dog and said it was fine now. The deputy urged the mother not to scold her daughter for making the call, saying the girl should feel free to call for help if there appears to be a medical problem.

INVERNESS - A man at 11:30 a.m. asked deputies to cite his 15-year-old son for leaving home without permission. After giving advice to family members, the request for a citation was dropped.

INVERNESS - A man at 7:20 p.m. complained that three juveniles were trespassing on Teachers Beach. A deputy contacted the juveniles and admonished them.

OLEMA - A man living beside Highway 1 complained at 11:25 p.m. that a party with loud music had been going on all night. A deputy contacted the host, and the party was ended.

SAN GERONIMO - A San Geronimo Valley Drive man at 1:15 a.m. complained about four or five cars parked in front of his house. Their juvenile occupants were making too much noise, he said. A deputy checked and found about 25 cars; however, he noted, the juveniles were under adult supervision and that there was no alcohol involved. Nonetheless, those motorists who were creating traffic problems were advised to move.

SAN GERONIMO - A man at 8 a.m. reported four golf carts had been vandalized during the night.

WOODACRE - A man notified deputies that a parked car showed up on Elm Avenue during the night. No one was in the car for the moment, he said, but the motorist had spent time parked there several days ago and "left trash all over the place."

LAGUNITAS - Deputies received a third-hand report (via a motorist who stopped at a deli) that there had been a multi-vehicle collision on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Deputies notified the Highway Patrol but arrived in town before the CHP. They found there had been no collision. A motorhome had merely lost a wheel, and a tow truck was on the scene.

SAN GERONIMO - A San Geronimo Valley Drive woman reported a car had hit her fence during the night and had destroyed part of it.

DOGTOWN - A park ranger reported a southbound motorcyclist dressed all in black had passed her over the double centerline of Highway 1 just south of Hagmaier Pond. She said she had been unable to catch the motorcycle and asked deputies to be on the lookout for it.

TOMALES - A Dillon Beach Road woman told deputies she had rented property to someone who was allowing a friend to pasture a horse there without the woman's permission. The landowner, who said she was now in a dispute with the horseowner, said she wanted the horse removed.

LAGUNITAS - A man asked for assistance in dealing with a woman who might be taking advantage of his sister, who has Alzheimer's Disease. He said the woman moved into his sister's house a week ago and was refusing to leave.

POINT REYES STATION - The Highway Patrol was asked to take a report when two vehicles collided on B Street.

PLATFORM BRIDGE - Deputies at 4:30 p.m. received a report that a woman who was either crazy or on narcotics had crashed her pickup truck into the bridge and then into a hillside. From the license plate number they received, officers determined the owner lives in San Francisco.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint that four men were acting drunk on Brighton Avenue near the public restrooms. A deputy determined they were not drunk.

MARSHALL - An oyster grower reported that two tents, each 14 by 15 feet on the sides and eight feet high, were stolen from property along Highway 1 where they were being used for biological experiments.

LUCAS VALLEY ROAD - A business reported finding an informal campsite along its property line with one tent on its property. It told deputies it would remove the tent.

LAGUNITAS - After a child was rushed by helicopter to Children's Hospital in San Francisco, the hospital called deputies and asked them to tell the father that his child was okay. A deputy delivered the message.

DILLON BEACH - An Oceana Drive man asked for extra patrols around his house after getting a call from a stranger claiming to represent the county fire department and soliciting money to help finance a yearbook. The man said he gave the salesman his address and phone number, but when he checked with the county fire department, fire officials knew nothing about the fundraising.

INVERNESS PARK - A resident complained that after a moving company left, some items were missing.

BOLINAS - An anonymous caller complained that someone was sleeping in a vehicle at Brighton and Park avenues.

MUIR BEACH - A woman on Highway 1 reported losing her purse.

 

May 4, 2000 Sheriff's Calls

 

NICASIO - A vandal broke three windows in an office being built inside a barn along Nicasio Valley Road. The damage was estimated at $1,200.

STINSON BEACH - While the Sheriff's Mounted Posse searched Mount Tamalpais for a suicide victim, a firefighter at 8:45 a.m. called deputies from a cafe to say there was a man in town with a purple hardhat who might be the missing man. He wasn't.

BOLINAS - A vandal broke the windshield of a resident's car, which was parked on Wharf Road.

STINSON BEACH -A restaurant at 7 p.m. complained that a 45-year-old woman, who appeared either drunk or insane, was "ranting and raving and won't leave the restaurant after being asked." She was described as wearing shorts and a tank top.

WOODACRE - A man said he had been playing golf with a second man and that they were scheduled to then meet for dinner in San Rafael. However, the second man never showed up.

LAGUNITAS - A woman living along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 3:30 a.m. told deputies she could not find her dog although she had heard it barking a few minutes earlier. She asked for a deputy with a spotlight to find her dog, but he couldn't.

LAGUNITAS - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard landlady told deputies she had evicted a tenant in April and has a court-issued restraining order against him. She said she believes he changed the lock on a shed before moving out and had been back on her property when he was not allowed there. An officer initially reported there was no evidence of a crime, but the woman called back later saying property was missing from the shed.

BOLINAS - A woman on Wharf Road told deputies that a homeless woman was selling stolen property. An officer concluded she wasn't.

FALLON - A woman at 3 p.m. notified deputies there was a 30-year-old female sitting cross-legged and acting disoriented beside Highway 1 at Whitaker Bluff Road. A deputy took the 30 year old to the crisis unit at Marin General Hospital.

OLEMA VALLEY - A vehicle overturned on Highway 1 south of the cemetery at 8:15 a.m. No one was injured, and deputies arranged for the Highway Patrol and a tow truck to handle the mishap.

LAGUNITAS - A woman at 9 p.m. reported she had several people cleaning up a house, but a 57-year-old man, against who she has a restraining order, was out front harassing the workers.

HICKS VALLEY - A man reported a blue pickup truck with a camper shell had been parked at Wilson Hill and Marshall-Petaluma roads for two days. A deputy determined the vehicle was registered to a Santa Rosa man.

FOUR CORNERS - A deputy stopped a car containing five men with no IDs. The five said they had no idea who owned the car. A deputy had the driver park the car, transported four men to Nicasio Square, and booked the fifth on a warrant.

WOODACRE - A woman at 1:20 p.m. called deputies and then gave the phone to her son, 14, who said he was having a verbal fight with his stepfather. The two had previously had a physical fight, the boy said. He added that this stepfather was too agitated for the moment to come to the phone.

BOLINAS - A man on Ocean Parkway reported his residence had been burglarized; however, he said, when he went to an openhouse nextdoor, his property was there. The man asked to talk with a deputy.

MUIR BEACH - A woman at 3:20 p.m. reported that a very large man in his mid- to late-30s was masturbating outside his van parked on Sunset Way. The woman estimated the man weighed 250 to 300 pounds.

FOREST KNOLLS - A man reported that someone took items, including a couch and cushions, out of a U-Haul truck and left them beside the road. The man said the couch, with a note on it saying "free," had previously been dumped further east beside Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint at 8:25 a.m. that a bus with campers was parked in a turnaround at Overlook Drive and Terrace Avenue, causing a traffic hazard. In addition, the vehicle was keeping the schoolbus from using the turnaround. A deputy spoke with the campers, who agreed to move their bus.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman reported that a $650 maroon bicycle, as well as a second bike, had been stolen from her steps along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

INVERNESS - County Health and Human Services staff asked deputies to help them deal with a hostile daughter suspected of elder abuse.

NICASIO - A Realtor notified deputies that the sale of a Nicasio Valley Road property is in escrow and that hired men have been working on the property. The workers have noticed that somebody keeps turning off the water at the pumphouse, said the Realtor and asked for extra patrols.

POINT REYES STATION - A gas station notified a Park Service ranger that a truck had driven away without paying, but the ranger could not find the truck. However, the vehicle returned and the driver paid for the gas after first going to an ATM machine.

POINT REYES STATION - A Highway 1 resident at 3 p.m. reported she was receiving harassing phone calls.

NICASIO - A deputy patrolling an area where there have been burglaries in the recent past found four juveniles drinking and smoking marijuana behind a barn. The officer issued a citation for their allegedly having alcohol in a vehicle.

POINT REYES STATION - After a motorcycle went down on Highway 1 at 3:50 p.m., deputies notified the Highway Patrol, arranged for the rider to be transported to a hospital, and had the bike towed.
