February 25, 1999 Sheriff's Calls

TOMALES - Shortly after midnight, a woman from Sonoma notified deputies that a burglar had smashed the front window of her parked car and stolen the stereo out of the dashboard, as well as its amplifier out of the trunk.

STINSON BEACH - A woman at 11:45 p.m. was sitting outside her place of employment when another woman attacked her for unknown reasons. The victim said a man held her employer's door shut so that friends inside could not come to her aid. The suspects, who are believed to be students from Santa Cruz, were gone when a deputy arrived.

MOON HILL - A vehicle spun out on Nicasio Valley Road at 9:40 p.m. and received front-end damage when it ran off the road.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Tamal Road woman told deputies that one of her daughters had stolen money from another. She said she wanted the alleged thief cited and tested for drugs. The girl was taken to a halfway house for juveniles.

WOODACRE - County firefighters at 9 a.m. responded to a report of a 24-year-old woman hyper-ventilating. Firefighters were initially told a husband-and-wife dispute was underway but found there was only a disagreement between a mother and her daughter.

WOODACRE - A woman on Redwood Drive gave a deputy some old bullets to be destroyed.

NICASIO - Deputies at 6:20 p.m. received a third-hand report of an intoxicated man staggering on Nicasio Valley Road. Officers could not find him.

POINT REYES STATION - A vehicle ran off the roadway and into a pasture at Highway 1 and the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road, breaking a fence. Deputies at 9:40 p.m. summoned a woman to take care of horses in the pasture.

TOMALES - A woman at 11:45 p.m. complained about loud music coming from the town hall. A deputy dispersed a party.

BOLINAS - An Oak Road resident at 12:15 a.m. called deputies to report she could hear something rustling outside her window. Moreover, she said, her cat was staring out the window. The woman was unable to describe the sound of the rustling.

BOLINAS - At 9:20 p.m., a deputy at Ocean Parkway and Overlook Drive cited a motorist on charges of driving with a suspended license.

NICASIO - A woman reported her daughter had received "a very threatening letter." A deputy gave the mother advice.

BOLINAS - A man called deputies from downtown to report another motorist had tried to run him off Highway 1. The man said both of them were now on Wharf Road.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman reported losing her wallet and credit cards.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman at 12:45 a.m. notified deputies that a man was refusing to leave her house. She subsequently reported he had left and was walking home.

FOREST KNOLLS - A resident complained that a drunk man eating cookies in front of the postoffice was being rude. A deputy arrested the man on charges of public drunkenness.

STINSON BEACH - A woman at 9:40 a.m. notified deputies that a large man had knocked on her front door. When she didn't acknowledge being home, the woman said, he went to the side of her house. A deputy could not find him.

TOMALES - A resident reported hearing 25 to 30 handgun shots along Keys Creek at 2:20 p.m.

BOLINAS - A man on Brighton Avenue at 3:20 p.m. notified deputies that a second man, who had been drinking, took two bags that contained the first man's clothes and belongings. The culprit also threatened to stab him, he said. When a deputy arrived, both men were gone.

FOREST KNOLLS - An Aztec Avenue resident reported that someone had cut down a tree and severed a water line at the top of his property. He said the county Public Works Department and Marin Municipal Water District both said they didn't do it. He added that Public Works had reported a similar incident elsewhere the same day.

 

February 18, 1999 Sheriff's Calls

TOMALES - A Highway 1 resident at 7:25 p.m. took an overdose of medication and said she wanted to kill herself. She was taken to the emergency room at Marin General Hospital.

TOMALES - A man used a white marker to vandalize a newspaper box along Highway 1. A deputy who found the man noted he was too drunk to take care of himself and arrested him on vandalism charges.

BOLINAS - A man at 8 p.m. complained of getting an annoying phone call from his adult son and asked that he be prosecuted.

LAGUNITAS - A woman asked that deputies check on the welfare of a girl with the flu who had a temperature of 104 degrees. The girl's parents didn't believe she was really that sick and had told her to go to bed, the woman said. A deputy later reported the parents were now taking the girl to a hospital.

POINT REYES STATION - A propane truck broke down between Point Reyes Station and Olema, blocking the northbound lane of Highway 1. A large tow truck from Rohnert Park was needed to move the vehicle.

INVERNESS PARK - Vandals during the night broke two flower pots at a business, the landlord reported.

DILLON BEACH - A landowner complained of three men trespassing at Elephant Rocks. The three told deputies they did not realize they were trespassing, and left.

POINT REYES STATION - A levee road resident, who has had differences with her neighbors, said they were now dumping raw sewage next to Papermill Creek. She said she had notified state Fish & Game. When a deputy checked, he found a man capping off a broken leachline on a septic system and baling rainwater in order to work.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman at 4 p.m. reported three juveniles were on the roof of the Red Barn. After a deputy contacted the youths and admonished them, they left the area.

STINSON BEACH - A man on Calle del Piños at 10:15 p.m. reported his 14-year-old daughter had left the beach with four teenage boys, and all were drunk. He said a 16-year-old boy had threatened him and would not bring back his daughter.

STINSON BEACH - A woman at midnight reported being battered by another woman for the second time on Highway 1. She said she doesn't know who the other woman is.

WOODACRE - A woman reported that a man had violated a court's restraining order by contacting her home by phone. She said he has her daughter call him.

CHILENO VALLEY - Petaluma Police asked West Marin deputies to help them find a man who had made a bomb threat in a bar.

INVERNESS - A man reported that someone had broken into his weekend home on Argyle Street, used the fireplace, but had taken nothing. He suspected the person was homeless.

NICASIO - A man reported finding a 56-year-old woman from Oklahoma on his property. She said she had been dropped off by a cab and that she had hurt herself.

BOLINAS - A woman told deputies it appears that someone has been living in her vacation home on Grove Road. She did not know if anything had been taken.

TOMALES - The Highway Patrol at 8 p.m. asked deputies to be on the lookout for a big rig with a load of logs that had hit three parked cars, a lamp post, a sign, etc. around Highway 1 and Dillon Beach Road. A deputy said it was unclear whether loose chains used for holding the logs or the truck itself had caused the damage, which was considerable. A witness told a deputy of seeing the logger tightening his chains south of town.

FAIRFAX - Fairfax Police at 3:05 a.m. asked West Marin deputies for help in contacting the parents of two boys, one from Point Reyes Station and one from Inverness Park.

FOREST KNOLLS - A woman called deputies at 11:20 p.m. to report she was out of gas on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Her elderly mother was in the car, but since she had only $4, no towing company would help her, she said. She asked that a deputy bring a gallon of unleaded gas. The Sheriff's Office referred the matter to the Highway Patrol.

WOODACRE - A Rock Ridge Road woman at 10:30 p.m. notified deputies that she had heard a car drive down her driveway, a door slam, and a man say, "Goodbye." She said she didn't think he got back in the car, but when she called out, no one answered.

INVERNESS PARK - Deputies received a complaint of a group hanging out along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 7:45 p.m., playing loud music, and shining flashlights in people's eyes as they walked or drove by. A deputy who went to the scene found juveniles without flashlights. A nearby business reported nothing was amiss.

STINSON BEACH - A man at 10:15 p.m. complained about hearing loud music. All was quiet when a deputy arrived, and there was no party of any size underway.

STINSON BEACH - The county fire marshal asked deputies to look for a 32-year-old man who is accused of putting false tags on fire extinguishers.

BOLINAS - Deputies at 10:45 p.m. received a complaint that young adults were making noise on Brighton Avenue. All was quiet when an officer arrived.

POINT REYES STATION - A Mesa Road woman at 11:15 p.m. reported a car had run into a ditch. There were no injuries, she said.

INVERNESS PARK - A motorist was arrested near White House Pool on charges of drunk driving.

SAN GERONIMO - Deputies received a report that a pickup truck had run off Nicasio Valley Road at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and had come to rest at a 90-degree angle in a ditch. No one was injured, officers were told, but they could not find the mishap.

INVERNESS - A woman on Cameron Street at 2:20 a.m. reported someone had knocked on her back door. When she asked who was there, a vehicle drove off, she said. A deputy determined there was no problem, just friends of the woman's daughter.

BOLINAS - A merchant complained that a neighbor from across the street kept trespassing on his property. A deputy gave him advice.

 

February 11, 1999 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION - A deputy on the main street arrested a man on a warrant and a charge of public drunkenness after he refused to leave a bar.

BOLINAS - A woman at 9:25 p.m. notified deputies that there were four or five drunks in front of the postoffice. She then reported another male was yelling at the drunks and threatening them. Finally the group, which included two dogs, went over to the community center, she said.

SAN GERONIMO - A man at 9:15 p.m. reported there were four people on the roof of a house belonging to his brother, who is in a hospital. He also said that in front of the residence there were 10 people, whose shadows he could see through windows on both sides of the house. The man added that he might be imagining all this.

WOODACRE - A man asked a deputy for advice in dealing with a van parked on his property.

MARSHALL - A woman staying along Highway 1 said her brother had tried to hit her, but he was now on the porch.

BOLINAS - A man on Wharf Road at 2 p.m. reported a second man had threatened him and was now hiding in bushes near the library.

TOMALES - A woman complained that a man was standing in a parking lot along the main street, yelling at her customers. She said the man had been drinking, owed the business money, and had been refused a drink.

POINT REYES STATION - A levee road resident asked deputies to erect barricades when the roadway flooded. He said motorists turning around in his driveway had almost hit his boat.

POINT REYES STATION - After a woman indicated she was hearing voices in her head, two people at 4:20 a.m. told deputies she needed to be taken to the county crisis unit. A deputy, however, told them he could not reach the woman's home immediately because roads into town were flooded.

FOREST KNOLLS - After a car went out of control and ran off Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in front of a house, officers checked to see if the driver was drunk.

DOGTOWN - The Park Service handled a traffic accident on Highway 1.

BOLINAS - A man complained about someone living in a trailer on the man's Yucca Road property. He said the person in the trailer is an ex-tenant who has harassed other people on the property.

INVERNESS - An innkeeper complained about people shoveling dirt into a drainage, causing the inn's property to flood. She said the problem is ongoing and that she and her husband planned to confront the people (who were trying to keep Third Valley Creek from eroding Chicken Ranch Beach). She asked a deputy for advice.

TOMALES - A woman at 9 p.m. complained about six vehicle loads of juveniles drinking vodka and 7 Up at Highway 1 and Dillon Beach Road. They were gone when a deputy arrived.

BOLINAS - A woman at 9:45 p.m. complained about a juvenile party with alcohol on Dogwood Road. She said there were many intoxicated juveniles at the party. However, a deputy who contacted the partygoers determined all were adults, and they agreed to keep the noise down.

INVERNESS PARK - A woman on Laurel Street reported her front fence had been pushed in.

BOLINAS - A woman, whom deputies escorted from someone else's house last October, asked to speak with a deputy. An officer gave her advice.

STINSON BEACH - A woman on North Calle del Sierra complained that two young men with a fire were camping on the beach. A deputy determined the pair were on their own property.

SAN GERONIMO - A man said he saw one or two people at the recycling center at 1 a.m. He told deputies it seemed suspicious they were there so late at night. An officer could not find the people.

LAGUNITAS - A man on Arroyo Road at 1 a.m. complained of receiving verbal threats from a tenant regarding an eviction.

INVERNESS PARK - When a burglar alarm went off inside a Drake's Summit Road house, a deputy determined the house was secure; however, there was a dog inside.

 

February 4, 1999 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION - A vandal shot a BB through the Thrift Shop's display window, doing $75 damage.

NICASIO - A woman reported losing her wallet while en route from Dixon, Solano County, to Nicasio. She said she had made several stops along the way.

POINT REYES STATION - A deputy at 11:15 p.m. arrested a man on a warrant for failing to appear in court in connection with a driving with a suspended license case.

BOLINAS - Deputies at 2:30 a.m. received a complaint from a Pine Road man, who said a drunk was in his house and refusing to leave. The man said he had asked the suspect to leave his house, but he was still lying on the floor drinking beer. A deputy arrested the suspect on public drunkenness charges. After the suspect was released from jail, he was arrested again on public drunkenness charges, this time in Olema.

BOLINAS - A vandal damaged a Wharf Road business during the night.

NICASIO - A Lucas Valley Road resident reported that a vandal had smashed his mailbox. A deputy noted that two other households in the area had also reported their mailboxes were smashed.

POINT REYES STATION - A man brought a .22 rifle to the sheriff's substation and asked that the gun be destroyed.

BOLINAS - A woman on Laurel Road at 4 p.m. reported a man had choked her. A deputy said no bruises were evident but transported the woman to an abused-women's shelter.

FOREST KNOLLS - A Montezuma Avenue woman at 7:20 p.m. reported her neighbor was yelling that he was going to shoot out her porch light. She then said she had just heard a possible gunshot, but her porch light was still on.

STINSON BEACH - A man and his girlfriend became stranded when he lost his keys at the beach. At 8:40 p.m., he told a deputy he had no money with him, no one to call, and that they were "going to die" if they didn't get help. A stepsister arranged for him to get cab fare.

STINSON BEACH - A tree fell down at San Geronimo Valley Drive and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 8:50 p.m., blocking traffic.

BOLINAS - A woman on Brighton Avenue at 11 p.m. reported hearing a man and woman arguing, adding that the fight might be getting physical. A deputy determined there was no physical fight, and the couple left the area.

TOMALES - A Highway 1 resident reported hearing a burglar the previous night. When her dog barked, she said, the burglar fled and she went back to bed. The next day, however, she reported the incident to deputies after townspeople urged her to do so.

MUIR BEACH - A landlord and her tenant got into a dispute. She told a deputy she had taken his food out of the refrigerator, locked him out of her main house, and doesn't want him in the main house. A deputy gave advice.

POINT REYES STATION - A senior citizen's head started bleeding following a fall at a family gathering on B Street. Firefighters responded.

WOODACRE - Deputies received a complaint that a vehicle was driving on a service road not open to the public. The officer determined the vehicle was carrying maintenance workers.

INVERNESS PARK - A man reported hearing a male screaming at 9:30 p.m. along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. A deputy could not find anyone screaming.

WOODACRE - A woman on Garden Way reported losing her wallet.

DILLON BEACH - Someone during the night dumped a large freezer at Elephant Rock, the immense boulders at the intersection of Dillon Beach and Valley Ford-Franklin School roads. Also dumped was a blue tarp full of yard waste. Deputies asked the county Department of Public Works to clean up the mess.

POINT REYES STATION - A woman on Mesa Road reported having trouble breathing. Firefighters responded.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - A deputy got one disabled vehicle towed off the roadway and arranged for the road to be cleared of a second disabled vehicle.

POINT REYES STATION - A burglar stole 50 Christmas tree lights from a bed-and-breakfast inn.

RED HILL - A Point Reyes Station man reported seeing a white truck parked beside the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road, with two men looking as if they were going to paint it. The man said the truck might be stolen, but it was gone when a deputy arrived.

LAGUNITAS - A man reported his brother had walked out of a drug-and-alcohol-treatment program. The man said he and his mother did not want the brother at their house. However, the brother eventually showed up, traveling by bicycle, but he then went to a store. A deputy gave the first man advice.

BOLINAS - A nighttime burglar stole beer from a Wharf Road business.

BOLINAS - A man complained that a car was blocking an Iris Road driveway. A deputy determined the car was not blocking the driveway.

BOLINAS - Deputies received a report of a man yelling and threatening a bartender. However, officers were told, the man had now left.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - A 44-year-old man shattered his left index finger when he accidentally shot himself in the hand while holding up a raccoon to shoot. The man was taken to a hospital. A deputy described the bullet as a .380-caliber hollow point.

SAN GERONIMO - A Sylvestris Drive resident at 10:15 p.m. heard an explosion that might have come from an electrical transformer, she said. Firefighters found nothing amiss.

LAGUNITAS - A deputy on West Cintura Avenue at 6:30 p.m. arrested a man on charges of public drunkenness.

STINSON BEACH - A burglar broke into a Highway 1 business and stole property.

MUIR BEACH - A mailman reported that burglars had cut padlocks off three rural mailboxes along Highway 1 and stolen an unknown amount of mail.
