February 28, 2002 Sheriff's Calls

STINSON BEACH – A Calle del Piños resident at 9:15 a.m. Saturday reported a vandal had punctured the right front and rear tires of her car.

BOLINAS – A man at noon Saturday reported a vandal had broken the locking mechanism for one of the washing-machine doors in the Laundromat.

DILLON BEACH – An Oceana Drive resident at 12:30 a.m. Saturday reported a vandal had stolen firewood and a wheelbarrow from him. Officers did not specify the nature of the vandalism.

BOLINAS – A resident at 11:15 a.m. Friday notified deputies that his 14-year-old daughter was approached at Overlook Road and Terrace Avenue by a man who repeatedly pressured her to get into his vehicle for a ride downtown. The girl, who ran to a friend’s house, said the man was 30 to 40 years old, balding, had a dirty-blond goatee, and tattoos on both arms.

TOMALES – A man at 7 p.m. Monday notified deputies that a former employee with financial and marital problems had said he was going to jump off "the bridge."

OLEMA – A woman at 8:54 p.m. Monday complained that another driver had thrown a beer can out of her own vehicle’s window on Highway 1 and that the can had hit the caller’s car. The caller said she believed the other driver was intoxicated and that her vehicle was currently parked downtown. All Highway Patrol officers were too far away to respond, so a deputy checked on the second woman and determined she was not intoxicated.

BOLINAS – A resident, who is separating from his wife, 38, notified deputies at 10:14 p.m. Monday that when he got home, he found that she had broken pictures of the two of them. There was a partly empty bottle of vodka in the house, and the pill bottles in the medicine cabinet were empty, he added.

LAGUNITAS – A postal worker at 8:35 a.m. Monday reported that a vandal had driven past the postoffice at 3:30 p.m. the previous day and "shot" golf balls that broke one postoffice window and cracked two others.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 3:20 a.m. Feb. 17 arrested a 21-year-old driver on hit and run charges following a crash that did major damage to a pump at the gas station. Deputies said the young motorist was northbound on Highway 1 at a high speed when he lost control while rounding the corner at the bank and slammed into a gas pump across the highway. Deputies followed a trail of automotive fluid from the gas station to a nearby home. At the home, they found the suspect’s vehicle with its front end damaged and its engine was still warm. There were apparent paint transfers between the gas pump and vehicle, and the vehicle’s three hubcaps matched one found at the gas station.

LAGUNITAS – A man at 9:06 a.m. Monday told deputies he had noticed the previous day that a UPS parcel box had been torn out of the ground along Portola Avenue. A deputy determined there had been no theft and that a neighbor had moved the box. The officers noted the neighbors have a dispute over easement rights.

POINT REYES STATION – A Highway 1 resident at 11:44 a.m. Monday complained that a large delivery truck was blocking the northbound lane of Highway 1 in front of the school. She said the driver was waving other vehicles around his truck but that it was nonetheless a traffic hazard.

SAN GERONIMO – A deputy armed with an arrest warrant at 12:13 p.m. Sunday detained a motorist at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Iris Road. The officer subsequently had the motorist’s van towed.

HICKS VALLEY – A substitute teacher at 2:40 p.m. Monday notified deputies she had accidentally tripped a burglar alarm at one-room Lincoln School and didn’t know how to reset it.

POINT REYES STATION – A vehicle ran off the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road Monday and knocked down fences at the base of Black Mountain. This, in turn, had let cattle out of their pasture to wander on the roadway. County firefighters asked deputies and the Highway Patrol to handle the mishap.

FOREST KNOLLS – A man at 8:18 p.m. Sunday called deputies to say a vehicle parked on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard next to his dumptruck was on fire and that he could not move his truck. He also said the fire was not far from a 500-gallon propane tank in a senior-citizens trailer park. While still on the phone, he added that a tree next to the burning vehicle had just caught fire.

LAGUNITAS – A Mountain View Avenue resident at 8:38 p.m. Sunday reported hearing two gunshots. All was quiet when a deputy arrived on the scene.

FOREST KNOLLS – Deputies at 1:32 a.m. Monday received a phone call from a woman who, they said, had been drinking but was sober. The woman said she was having a panic attack, and deputies said it sounded as if she was hyperventilating. It was determined that she did not need medical attention.

LAGUNITAS – A Lagunitas Road resident at 11:33 a.m. Sunday asked for advice regarding money owed to her by an employer whose business had suddenly closed. A deputy gave her advice.

NICASIO – A Lucas Valley Road resident at 12:18 p.m. Sunday said she had found the hood of her vehicle up, the vehicle’s doors and trunk open, but nothing taken or damaged. She said the vehicle had been parked in her driveway.

MUIR BEACH – A man on Seascape Drive at 1:06 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that a burglar had broken into the rear window of his truck and stolen both a container of CDs and a "FasTrak" responder that allows the truck to go through the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza without having to stop.

POINT REYES STATION – A vehicle ran off Highway 1 and into a ditch at 4:37 p.m. Sunday. No one was injured, but deputies noted the vehicle was creating a traffic hazard and had it towed.

BOLINAS – A Rosewood Road resident at 9:11 p.m. Saturday complained about a man trespassing on her property.

MARSHALL – A Highway 1 resident at 10:40 p.m. complained of people in a boat spinning donuts in Tomales Bay and being loud. The resident said he was concerned the boat might hit a dock. He also noted there was a large bonfire on the shore nearby and several people around it. A deputy could not find either the fire or the boat.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Forest Drive resident at 11:55 p.m. Friday complained that he could hear yelling in the street. Deputies broke up a juvenile party, and the host agreed to keep the gathering small and indoors.

BOLINAS – A woman housesitting on Larch Road notified deputies at 11:51 p.m. Friday that the home’s water had been turned on and off outside. A deputy determined that the house has a water-softener system on a self-cleaning cycle.

INVERNESS – A man at 2:06 a.m. Saturday complained about a party in the neighborhood, saying that people were yelling. A deputy contacted the host, who agreed to keep all the guests indoors and quiet. The officer also advised the host regarding the county’s noise ordinance.

TOMALES – High school staff at 10:15 a.m. Saturday reported he had a student in his office who had admitted taking a CD player that belonged to another student. The staff member described the suspect as "cooperative." A deputy cited the student and released him to the custody of the school.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 12:13 p.m. Friday received a report of a woman walking along Highway 1 south of town. A deputy determined there was no emergency and that the woman was merely digging for a frog in a culvert; however, by the time the officer arrived, the frog was gone.

NICASIO – A resident at 3:27 p.m. Friday notified deputies than a motorcyclist had crashed on Lucas Valley Road and injured a knee.

BOLINAS – Medics were called to Maple Avenue at 8:39 p.m. last Thursday after a person had an allergic reaction to medication.

LAGUNITAS – A Barranca Avenue resident at 11:22 a.m. last Thursday told deputies that he had caught a neighbor peeping on him and houseguests the previous week. He said the woman claimed to be looking at wild turkeys. He added that she was carrying a video camera and that he has an ongoing problem with her.

DOGTOWN – A woman at 2:45 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a vehicle had overturned on Highway 1 but that there were no injuries. However, she said the wrecked vehicle was still in the northbound lane. The Highway Patrol handled the mishap.

BOLINAS – An Elm Road resident at 6:39 p.m. last Thursday reported ongoing threats from her 40-year-old ex-boyfriend. A day earlier, she noted, he had been arrested on charges of violating a court-issued restraining order and of making threats against her. She said a female friend would stay with her until deputies arrived.

FALLON – Deputies at 7:51 p.m. last Wednesday received word that a vehicle had run off the Fallon-Two Rock Road and that four people were standing around it. Deputies referred the matter to the Highway Patrol.

MUIR BEACH – US Park Police at 8:14 p.m. last Wednesday reported a mudslide on Muir Woods Road, with water and mud flowing across a "semi-blind curve." The county Department of Public Works cleared away the mudslide.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman at 8:17 p.m. last Wednesday notified deputies that her 39-year-old brother was at her house and very drunk. She did not want him there, she said, and it was possible he would leave, but "he can hardly stand." She said her brother has a history of problems with alcohol.

WOODACRE – A man at 10:34 p.m. last Wednesday called deputies from the swimming pool area of the Improvement Club to say that he and a few other people were locked out of the locker room and stuck in the pool area. A friend managed to free them from the pool area.

OLEMA – A man called the Highway Patrol from a callbox along Highway 1 and reported that his vest containing his identification had been stolen at the campground. He said he suspected a woman in her late 20s took the vest, but when an officer arrived, he became "uncooperative."

NICASIO – Deputies at 11:55 a.m. last Wednesday went to a La Cañada home to take a report on a household burglary and the theft of a vehicle from a garage.

LAGUNITAS – An anonymous caller at 6:49 p.m. last Wednesday complained about loud construction noise in the area of West Cintura Avenue.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 9:50 a.m. Feb. 19 notified deputies that he had found a 12-foot aluminum boat with no engine at the end of Seadrift Spit. A deputy left a message for the registered owner of the boat.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowner signs a release. The substation’s phone number is 663-1151.

 

February 21, 2002 Sheriff's Calls

INVERNESS PARK – A Portola Avenue resident at 8:15 p.m. Saturday reported that a vandal had shot out windows on two of his vehicles, as well as a house window, with a BB gun. He added that BBs had also been fired at his neighbor’s vehicles and at his neighbor, although the neighbor was not hit.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 6:50 p.m. Feb. 12 arranged for a 22-foot-long, fifth-wheel travel trailer to be towed from the Agate Beach parking lot after it was parked there four days. A deputy said the trailer was being illegally used for habitation.

POINT REYES STATION – A woman at 8:24 p.m. Monday reported her 41-year-old ex-husband had not returned their children to her in Nicasio as promised. She told officers she is having an ongoing problem with child exchanges and that a court has issued a restraining order against him.

LAGUNITAS – A man at 9:53 a.m. Monday told deputies a cell phone was stolen from his vehicle while it was parked on Alta Avenue.

FOREST KNOLLS – A deputy on Castro Street at 11:50 a.m. Monday cited a motorist on charges of driving although his license is suspended, of having false registration on his vehicle, and for possessing a small amount of marijuana. The man was released after being ticketed, but his Cadillac was impounded for 30 days.

LAGUNITAS – Deputies at 7:44 p.m. Sunday received word that two men were fighting at a Sir Francis Drake Boulevard residence. At 12:22 p.m. the next day, officers were summoned to the same residence after a 44-year-old man threatened to kill himself.

WOODACRE – A woman at 2:14 p.m. Monday told deputies that a man aged 50 to 60 had pulled a shotgun on her and a friend the previous evening. The woman said she had been horseback riding when her dog went onto the man’s property. The woman said she heard the man cock his gun and saw him tip it upward.

BOLINAS – An Elm Road resident at 8:57 p.m. Sunday complained that her ex-boyfriend continually phones and writes her despite a court-issued protective order.

BOLINAS – A Fern Road resident at 9:40 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that a man with a bicycle was hiding on her porch. She said she had told the man she was "with someone, and [the man] had to go away." She added he had not been violent with her that night. Deputies referred the case to the Highway Patrol.

BOLINAS – Deputies at 6:42 p.m. Sunday received a call from a Dogwood Road residence and could hear in the background a woman yelling, "Get out of here...They will take you to jail. You are very drunk." The call was then cut off. At 11:06 p.m. the same day, the woman reported the man was back to pick up belongings and was being violent. A deputy offered to stand by at the residence, but the man said he had nowhere to go and hung up.

BOLINAS – A deputy at 11:59 p.m. Sunday reported he had "shoved a cow back through [a] fence."

LAGUNITAS – A Lagunitas Road resident at 8:58 p.m. Sunday reported his DVD player had been stolen during the night.

PLATFORM BRIDGE – A county firefighter at 3:36 p.m. Sunday reported a "group of guys" were working on their cars and "have quite a setup" beside the road. A deputy found the group, who said they would leave when they were done.

INVERNESS – An innkeeper at 5:26 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that a woman had just come into the inn, saying she was being abused by a man and needed help. The woman said she had been en route from San Diego to Fort Bragg when she ran away from the man.

BOLINAS – An Iris Road man at 7:20 p.m. Saturday called deputies to report his 23-year-old daughter had come home drunk and was creating a disturbance. Deputies could hear the daughter screaming in the background that her father had struck her.

BOLINAS – Medics at 8:33 p.m. Saturday were summoned to Purple Gate Road when a six year old developed a high fever.

TOMALES – A woman at 9:45 p.m. Saturday reported a pickup truck was parked suspiciously beside the Tomales-Petaluma Road. A deputy found a truck that was stuck in mud.

INVERNESS PARK – A "very drunk" motorist hit his head on his steering wheel when he ran off the roadway at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Bear Valley Road. The vehicle got stuck in mud, a deputy reported, but the man was not injured.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD – A man on Saturday reported a black-and-white cow was walking on the shoulder of the road. A deputy notified the Highway Patrol, and the cow’s owner was summoned.

BOLINAS – San Francisco Police at 6:44 p.m. Saturday asked West Marin deputies for assistance in locating a vehicle in Bolinas prior to serving a search warrant in a drug case.

BOLINAS – Deputies increased traffic enforcement on Olema-Bolinas Road following complaints of speeding and reckless motorists. One driver at 8:17 p.m. Friday received several citations.

DILLON BEACH – A woman at 10:23 a.m. Friday reported receiving a letter from South Africa. The letter claimed to be a business proposal and promised money for help, she said. A deputy gave the woman advice but concluded the letter was "nothing suspicious."

NICASIO – A big-rig truck spilled five cubic yards of gravel on Lucas Valley Road at 10:38 a.m. Friday, blocking one lane. Deputies provided traffic control while the mess was cleaned up.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 1:56 p.m. Friday reported that a man with a pickup truck had threatened to fight a short, elderly man in front of a business on Calle del Mar. Although no fight occurred and the victim did not want to talk with deputies, the caller said he wanted to. The suspect meanwhile left the area.

WOODACRE – A resident at 4:32 p.m. Friday complained that a sedan had been parked all afternoon at Taylor Avenue and Park Street. A deputy checked the identification of the car’s owner, who said the vehicle had broken down and would be moved the next day.

MOUNT TAMALPAIS – A man at 2:54 p.m. Friday reported a Toyota car was driving erratically on the Bolinas-Fairfax Road and had swerved toward two bicyclists. At 5:20 p.m. the same day, the man notified the Highway Patrol he’d had a "verbal altercation" on Ridgecrest Boulevard with the Toyota driver over the driver’s erratic driving. The Highway Patrol has information on the suspect, the man added.

BOLINAS – A Wharf Road merchant at 7:48 p.m. Friday reported a female employee had brought her own beer into the business, where the six pack was taken away from her. She was now refusing to leave the business, the merchant said. However, when a deputy arrived on the scene, the employee was gone.

POINT REYES STATION – Medics responded to a Viento Way residence at 9:02 p.m. last Thursday when an 84-year-old woman got a piece of bone stuck in her lower throat.

BOLINAS – A man on Wharf Road called deputies at 10:19 p.m. last Thursday to complain that someone aged 21 to 23 had tried to hit him with a skateboard. The sheriff’s dispatcher noted the man was "very agitated and would describe how the incident occurred. A deputy determined there had been only a verbal dispute.

POINT REYES STATION – An anonymous caller at 11:56 p.m. last Thursday complained about loud music from a bar. A deputy contacted a bartender who agreed to shut the outside doors and turn down the volume.

LAGUNITAS – A woman at 3:03 p.m. last Thursday told deputies she wanted to talk with an officer about her 17-year-old son’s truancy problems and what can be done about them.

BOLINAS – A Park Avenue resident at 3:43 p.m. last Thursday reported someone had smashed the window of her parked vehicle and had unsuccessfully tried to steal the vehicle by punching out its ignition.

DOGTOWN – Deputies at 5:14 p.m. last Thursday received a report of a loose cow on Highway 1. They couldn’t find it.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Sanchez Road resident at 5:25 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a thief had stolen a $500 stereo from her vehicle, which had been parked in front of her residence.

OLEMA – A deputy at 6:09 p.m. last Thursday helped find a key so a Bear Valley Road resident, who was locked out of a house, could get back in.

SAN GERONIMO – A man at 8:04 a.m. last Wednesday complained about a car partly blocking a driveway and protruding into Cecil Road. A deputy contacted the car’s owner, who said construction was underway at his house and that his driveway was blocked.

BOLINAS – A Kale Road resident at 8:23 a.m. last Wednesday asked to speak with a deputy about a neighbor’s goats coming onto her property. An officer gave her advice.

FOREST KNOLLS – A resident at 6:45 p.m. last Wednesday complained about a suspicious man in his 40s walking around at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Tamal Road for two hours. The resident said the man was wearing a ponytail, a scruffy beard, and jeans with duct tape around one leg. The resident added that the man was "carrying a large can of beer."

BOLINAS – A woman on Feb. 21 complained that a vandal during the night had smashed the windshield of her pickup truck, which was parked on Wharf Road.

LAGUNITAS – A Mountain King Road resident at 5:29 p.m. Feb. 21 reported there was a man in a white pickup truck near the fire lookout atop Mount Barnabe. She said her husband had driven over in a blue Cadillac to check on the truck. The resident later added that a woman was "now walking down the road."

February 14, 2002 Sheriff's Calls

POINT REYES STATION – A resident at 9:30 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies she had lost several cashier’s checks. A deputy found them in Bolinas.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 8:10 a.m. Friday received word that one or more people had entered a woman’s Mesa Road home through a window, used the bathroom, spent the night, and left cracker crumbs in the bed. Nothing appeared to be missing.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy at 7:58 a.m. Monday shot a deer to put it out of its misery after it was struck in traffic and became a hazard to motorists.

SAN GERONIMO – Firefighters, medics, the Highway Patrol, and sheriff’s deputies responded Monday when a green truck with a camper shell was spotted in a ditch at San Geronimo Valley Drive and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. After they all got there, firefighters said the truck had been in the ditch "awhile."

SAN GERONIMO –A man at 3:51 p.m. Monday asked for deputies to standby at a home on San Geronimo Valley Drive where divorcing parents were in a dispute over property. The husband said the situation had become "tense."

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 5 p.m. Monday reported losing his wallet downtown. He said the wallet contained a credit card and an ATM card.

DILLON BEACH – A woman at 7:57 Sunday reported someone had fallen off a rock on her Dillon Beach Road property and had been airlifted to a hospital. A deputy gave her advice.

NICASIO – A man on Nicasio Creek Road at 8:02 p.m. Sunday reported hearing gunshots. A deputy could not find anyone shooting.

STINSON BEACH – A man at 11:44 p.m. Sunday fell off a horse in front of a Highway 1 restaurant, bloodying the back of his head. Emergency medical technicians from the town’s volunteer fire department treated him.

BOLINAS – A resident at 7:58 a.m. Sunday told deputies her ex-boyfriend, 47, had threatened her over money. A deputy determined the dispute was a case for civil court and gave her advice.

NICASIO – A man at 9:17 a.m. Sunday notified deputies that a woman driving on Nicasio Valley Road "is very out of it." The man said he had seen "her go into a ditch five times." Deputies relayed the information to the Highway Patrol.

OLEMA – Deputies at 12:24 p.m. Sunday received word that a 53-year-old man was wanted for questioning after he threatened a Park Service ranger. Officers were warned that the man is an ex-felon who in 1995 was convicted of carrying an assault rifle and stalking in Santa Monica Mountain National Recreation Area. Deputies were also warned the man’s behavior can be "unpredictable."

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy at 12:41 p.m. Sunday ticketed two motorcycles parked on the sidewalk outside the Cheda Building.

BOLINAS – A deputy at Brighton and Park avenues at 1:06 p.m. Sunday radioed the dispatcher that it was a "bright and sunny day" in town, the beach was "packed," and "vehicles [are] parked all over due to the nice weather." The officer ticketed two vehicles on charges of illegal parking and moved others along.

SAN GERONIMO – A woman at 2:20 p.m. Sunday called deputies to complain about her ex-boyfriend’s "begging" her to "take him back." She said, "He is not being threatening, but it is very distressing [to have him] professing his love over and over and over."

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A man at 10:09 p.m. Saturday called deputies on a cell phone to say he was stranded somewhere in the park with a disabled vehicle. Before he could give his location, however, his cellular phone lost contact with the dispatcher, and contact could not be reestablished.

LAGUNITAS – A tree fell all the way across Sir Francis Drake Boulevard a half mile east of Samuel P. Taylor State Park at 11 p.m. Saturday. Deputies referred the problem to the Highway Patrol.

FOREST KNOLLS – A woman phoned deputies at 11:01 p.m. Saturday and called out, "Get the cops here right now. This guy just hit me." She said a 38-year-old man woke her up but pushed her down when she tried to get up. She added that the man was drunk.

MARSHALL – Medics responded at 2:04 a.m. Saturday when someone had heart problems in the vicinity of Marconi Cove.

NICASIO – A man at 8:18 a.m. Saturday told deputies his estranged wife had stolen the keys to his vehicle. He said that while his son was in possession of the vehicle, she had taken its keys because her own vehicle had run out of gas. She was now refusing to return his keys, the man said.

WOODACRE – A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 8:28 a.m. Saturday complained about loud music in another tenant’s apartment. She said she had contacted the owner without result. All was quiet when a deputy arrived.

HICKS VALLEY – County firefighters Saturday morning notified deputies that a 1970s sedan was "all over the road" as it headed west on the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. There were several bicyclists also on the road, firefighters said.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy on Sunday morning drove around with a dog, trying to find its owner. Finally, he left the dog with a bartender.

BOLINAS – A woman at a business on Wharf Road at 3:10 p.m. Saturday said a man wanted a pot of coffee but didn’t want to pay for it. She said he was now following her around the business, adding that she felt threatened by his presence.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 3:49 p.m. Saturday received a complaint that a county firefighter drives recklessly while commuting. An officer could not find the firefighter.

LAGUNITAS – A man on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 4:56 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that he was assaulted by a second man a few weeks ago. The first man said he believes his alleged assailant is now trying to have him arrested.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Montezuma Avenue resident at 5:03 p.m. Saturday notified deputies that a white motorhome had been parked in front of her house for an hour. And while "nothing had happened," she considered its presence strange. A deputy determined the motorhome belonged to the brother of her neighbor and would be moved the next day.

INVERNESS PARK – A Drake’s Summit Road resident at 5:39 p.m. Saturday asked for extra sheriff’s patrols in the area because of recent vandalism.

TOMALES – Deputies at 5:58 p.m. received word that a 75-year-old Point Reyes Station man, who drives a golf cart, had driven almost all the way to Tomales. Deputies alerted the Highway Patrol. At 6:22 p.m., the man’s wife reported him missing.

MUIR WOODS – When the burglar alarm went off in the ranger office on North Franks Valley Road, at 9:04 p.m. Friday, a member of the staff at the National Monument told deputies mice had set the alarm off in the past. However, she told deputies, it was possible there was a human intruder.

BOLINAS – A Daffodil Road resident at 8:12 a.m. Friday reported that during the night a vandal had slashed the front and rear tires on the driver’s side of her vehicle.

NICASIO – A resident at 9:46 a.m. Friday notified deputies a couple of thousand dollars worth of jewelry was missing from her house. She said she had a suspect.

NICASIO – A woman at 5:23 p.m. Friday told deputies that she and her estranged husband are living at the same address and that he had come into her room, where he is not supposed to be. She said her husband was angry with her for installing deadbolts.

POINT REYES STATION – The sheriff’s substation commander spotted a loose steer on the road at 4:44 p.m. last Thursday. A deputy could not find the steer, but officers then received word of an additional cow on the road. At this point, the matter was turned over to the Highway Patrol, which reported there were no cows on the road.

MARSHALL – A property owner along Highway 1 called deputies after dark to report someone had knocked down a fence he had just put up. He said he wanted anyone on his property arrested. A deputy gave him advice.

OLEMA – A deputy at 9:33 p.m. last Wednesday called a tow truck when a vehicle got stuck in a ditch along Highway 1.

LAGUNITAS – A man at 8:39 a.m. last Wednesday complained about a truck and a second vehicle parked in a bicycle lane between Shafter Bridge and downtown Lagunitas. He said the parked vehicles made it dangerous for him to ride his bicycle on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. A deputy determined the vehicles were "legally parked" between "Park Parallel off Roadway" signs.

SAN GERONIMO – A woman at 12:02 p.m. last Wednesday notified deputies her 12-year-old son had left school at 9:45 a.m. after having problems in his physical-education class but had not come home.

HICKS VALLEY – A man at 12:37 p.m. last Wednesday notified deputies there was a red and brown cow on the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. Deputies advised the Highway Patrol.

LAGUNITAS – A man on Corona Avenue at 3:02 p.m. last Wednesday notified deputies that a 12-year-old boy had accidentally cut his leg with a knife while slicing a bagel. The boy’s mother took him to Marin General Hospital "for stitches," a deputy reported.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 4:03 p.m. last Wednesday complained that a cell phone was stolen from her car while it was parked downtown.

BOLINAS – Medics at 8:57 p.m. Feb. 5 transported a male burn victim from Cliff Road to a hospital after he scalded himself with hot water.

POINT REYES STATION – Sheriff’s Lt. Rich Ginnodo, commander of the West Marin Substation, has asked The Light to let readers know that a campaign to remove abandoned cars is underway in West Marin. Lt. Ginnodo said the Sheriff’s Office will arrange to have abandoned vehicles towed off private property, as well as public property, if the landowners signs a release. The substation’s phone number is 663-1151.

 

February 7, 2002 Sheriff's Calls

DILLON BEACH – A woman at 11 a.m. Sunday told deputies she had been jogging at Dillon Beach and Middle roads when a man drove alongside her and yelled profanities. She said he honked at her, got out of his vehicle, and began yelling at her to get off the pavement. A deputy said the jogger was entitled to run at the edge of the pavement.

BOLINAS – A boy at 3:30 p.m. Friday said he and a friend were skateboarding on Brighton Avenue when a woman drove too close to them and they made obscene gestures in response. The boy said the woman then stopped her car and took their skateboard.

STINSON BEACH – A woman at 1:30 a.m. Saturday said her estranged husband entered her house on Calle del Sierra and took back gifts he had given her. He later returned them.

BOLINAS – A deputy at 5 p.m. Sunday took into custody a chronic alcoholic, who was unable to care for himself and was being disruptive to downtown business. The deputy without incident took the man to a detoxification center.

NICASIO – County firefighters at 8:22 a.m. last Thursday alerted deputies that a pickup truck had run off Lucas Valley Road and landed in a creek just west of Big Rock. Firefighters said the driver was trapped inside the truck. Deputies were forced to close one lane of the road, and traffic at times was lined up for half a mile while the driver was rescued and the truck was pulled back onto the road.

PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD – A pickup truck overturned into a ditch at 8:44 a.m. last Thursday. The crash damaged a fence, but none of the three occupants of the truck was injured. The trio was last seen walking toward a ranch.

BOLINAS – A woman at 7:26 p.m. last Wednesday reported hearing a loud quarrel between a man and woman at Brighton and Park avenues. The caller said she couldn’t see the pair, and deputies were unable to find either of them.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Rosario Road resident at 10:18 p.m. Jan. 29 notified deputies that a very intoxicated female driver had just dumped garbage at the end of his driveway. The resident said the woman, who lives on Montezuma Avenue, had left garbage all over the road. At 1:12 p.m. the next day, the resident reported a package containing nails had been dumped on Rosario Road. He said the nails were all over the road, that people were getting flat tires, and that he wanted the person responsible to clear away the nails. A deputy concluded that two people are having a dispute that needs to be settled in civil court.

FOREST KNOLLS – A Tamal Road resident at 5:57 p.m. last Wednesday reported a large motorhome occupied by two heavyset men was parked in the street. "There may be a third in the bushes," the caller told deputies. The motorhome left before a deputy arrived.

STINSON BEACH – A woman on Arenal Avenue at 12:14 p.m. Jan 29 asked a deputy for advice about evicting a tenant.

BOLINAS – Firefighters and medics at 8:18 p.m. Monday responded to a report of an unconscious, 63-year-old man "down on the street." The man was first taken to a detoxification center, but when he became uncooperative and refused to sign the admitting papers, he was taken to jail on public-drunkenness charges.

BOLINAS – A woman at 10:33 p.m. Monday reported a couple were screaming on Terrace Avenue. She said the two are an ongoing problem. A deputy talked to the couple, who "agreed to keep quiet and go to sleep," he reported. However, at 11:10 p.m. deputies received a report that the couple were not keeping quiet. The caller said they have been a problem for three weeks. A deputy arrested the man on public drunkenness charges and took the woman to a detoxification center.

SAN GERONIMO – A woman Sunday reported that she and her stepson, 53, were fighting and that he had "restrained" her from leaving her San Geronimo Valley Drive house. She said the fight started when she looked at his mail and he thought she was reading it.

WOODACRE – A caller at 1:54 p.m. Sunday reported that a 39-year-old sister with drug problems had been missing for eight days.

BOLINAS – A man at 3:57 p.m. Sunday notified deputies that two people were driving golf balls into a field where there were cows. He said he hadn’t seen any of the cows get hit but was concerned for their welfare. The problem was abated prior to a deputy’s arrival.

BOLINAS – A drunk man, who had previously been kicked out of a bar, stole a 32-ounce container of malt liquor from a store. He was caught, however, and the malt liquor was taken from him. A caller told deputies the man was now outside the store begging for money so he could go back in and buy the alcohol.

POINT REYES STATION – A motorist on Highway 1 at 8:08 p.m. Saturday flagged down a deputy and said he had cut his hand and was almost out of gas.

WOODACRE – A Madrone Avenue woman at 9:15 p.m. Saturday reported a $900 bicycle/motorized scooter had been stolen from her carport.

OLEMA – A deputy at 3:10 a.m. Sunday dispersed 18 to 20 juveniles who were hanging out at the campground.

INVERNESS – A Pine Hill Road resident at 12:15 p.m. Saturday reported a glass door to her house had been broken but nothing inside seemed disturbed.

POINT REYES STATION – A man at 1:38 p.m. Saturday reported that the previous evening a vandal had kicked in two doors and broken the taillight of his car while he was at a party in town. He noted that two other guests at the party had been heard making disparaging remarks about his being gay. Deputies are investigating the vandalism as a possible hate crime.

TOCALOMA – A man on Saturday reported two men in their 30s had a physical fight at Platform Bridge Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Afterwards, one fighter got on a Golden Gate Transit bus heading toward San Rafael while the second remained at the scene, where he had a 20-foot van and a "beatup" recreational vehicle, the caller said.

NATIONAL SEASHORE – A woman at 6:14 p.m. Saturday reported a bull and cow were on the pavement at the top of Ottinger’s Hill. The Highway Patrol dealt with the cattle.

BOLINAS – A woman at 8:04 p.m. last Thursday notified deputies that a red Toyota pickup truck with two occupants was driving on the beach and reef, as well as spinning donuts. A deputy could not find the truck.

BOLINAS – A woman on Brighton Avenue at 11:10 p.m. last Thursday reported a woman and two drunk men were fighting in the bushes. The woman in the bushes sounded hysterical, and one man was cursing her, the caller said. The trio were gone when a deputy arrived, and he concluded there was no merit to the report.

POINT REYES STATION – Deputies at 2:04 a.m. Saturday received an anonymous complaint about a loud party and tires screeching at Cypress Road and Highway 1. An officer called a resident, who agreed to end the party. It was abated upon the arrival of a deputy.

WOODACRE – A man at 9:37 a.m. last Thursday told deputies that the previous night his girlfriend and her mother were threatened by a homeless man from Fairfax. A deputy told the group how to get a court to issue a restraining order against the Fairfax man.

TOMALES – Staff from the high school at 11:24 a.m. last Thursday reported two "cooperative" girls were being held in the school office after being found with "small amounts" of marijuana.

SAN GERONIMO – Deputies at 3:33 p.m. last Thursday received a complaint that golf courts were traveling slowly at the intersection of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Nicasio Valley Road, creating a traffic hazard. When a deputy arrived, there were no golf carts on the roadway.

POINT REYES STATION – A deputy accompanied the Humane Society while it removed a dead dog from a home while the owners were away.

INVERNESS PARK – Deputies and Park Service rangers Wednesday morning stopped a Bolinas man on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard when a ranger reported the motorist might be a hit-run driver who had previously damaged his wife’s car. The motorist was cited for driving while his license is suspended. Evidence in the possible hit-run case has been forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
