February 24, 2000 Sheriff's Calls
BOLINAS - A man reported he had been partying on Wharf Road when someone took his wallet and keys from his car. He said there was no cash in the wallet, but his credit cards are missing.
STINSON BEACH - A deputy took a bicycle for safekeeping after it was left leaning against a fence on Lincoln Avenue for several months.
BOLINAS - A man reported receiving unwanted phone calls from another man.
BOLINAS - A deputy arranged for a boat on a trailer without a license to be towed from Aspen and Poplar roads.
LAGUNITAS - Deputies received a report at 9:10 p.m. that kids were throwing eggs near Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.
SAN GERONIMO - A Sylvestris Drive resident at 10 p.m. reported an explosion and feeling the percussion. He said he also saw a light in the area of the golf course. The disturbance may have come from a couple of shotgun blasts, he said.
POINT REYES STATION - A Highway 1 resident at 1 a.m. reported hearing a truck skidding and someone yelling. He said the truck, which had a bad muffler, ran off the road and through his fence, damaging it. The vehicle, which he described as large, dark pickup, then fled northbound.
TOMALES - A deputy at 8:20 a.m. arranged for a motorhome to get towed after it broke down along Highway 1.
PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - A woman at 1:30 p.m. told deputies she had confronted two people with a dog walking on private property and leaving behind a four-wheel-drive vehicle. She said her husband was following them in an all-terrain vehicle.
INVERNESS - A burglar on Highland Way stole a battery charger, a generator, and a small motorcycle together valued at $1,400, a man reported.
POINT REYES STATION - A man at 11 a.m. told deputies that a tall, thin man with a goatee had attempted to start a fight with him. He said he believes the goateed man is a gang member who is extorting money from businesses. A deputy could not find the second man.
DILLON BEACH - An Ocean Drive woman asked deputies to stand by while she evicted vacation renters who had broken an agreement by having more than eight people in her rental. She said there were currently 20 to 30 people staying there. When a deputy arrived at 11:15 a.m., the house was empty.
OLEMA - At the request of the Highway Patrol, a deputy arranged to have a van towed from a campground. A deputy said it was a civil-law dispute and "advice was given all around."
LAGUNITAS - A woman called from Arroyo Road to say that earlier in the week she had witnessed a Doberman attacking a child. The child subsequently required 35 stitches, she said. A deputy advised her to contact the Humane Society and gave her other advice.
WOODACRE - A father reported that his 36-year-old daughter had taken an overdose of drugs in a possible suicide attempt. She was now in her bedroom, he said, and too weak to open the door. He said his daughter has a history of drug and alcohol abuse and had been talking about suicide. Deputies transported her to Marin General Hospital and placed a hold on her. The next day, however, the father called officers again to say he was concerned that the hold would expire and that he and his wife feared for their lives. He asked to make a threat report.
MARSHALL - A man at 8 a.m. reported seeing three vehicles in Miller Park (a faded-yellow pickup truck with one occupant, a lowered gray pickup with two occupants, and a black Explorer with two occupants), and all five people were snorting a white powder. The five, who were high school aged, then left northbound at a high rate of speed, he added.
BOLINAS - A man complained about people living for several days on Brighton Avenue in a converted schoolbus. They also had a car, he noted and asked that they be moved along. A deputy reported he would contact the subjects.
LAGUNITAS - Deputies at 1 p.m. assisted in clearing debris from Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.
TOMALES - A deputy received a report of a loose cow on Highway 1 but could not find its owner and was unsuccessful in contacting neighboring ranchers. He said he would ask around at the general store.
INVERNESS - A firefighter reported that someone may have accidentally overdosed on drugs.
INVERNESS PARK - A resident said she and her 16-year-old son were having an argument over a CD. The previous night, she added, the son had gone after her husband with a hammer.
SAN GERONIMO - A deputy on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at 11:20 p.m. arrested a man on charges of carrying a loaded firearm in public.
February 17, 2000 Sheriff's Calls
LAGUNITAS - A woman at 6:30 a.m. complained that two former tenants were trespassing on her property despite her getting a court's restraining order against them. She said they had also moved a stranger into her rental unit and that all of them were asleep. A deputy determined it was a civil-law dispute. Another deputy had previously tried unsuccessfully to locate the tenants and serve them with eviction papers.
FOREST KNOLLS - After a burglar alarm went off in a business, a deputy checked but found no sign of entry. He speculated that wind set off the alarm.
TOMALES - A man at 8 p.m. complained that four to eight boys had climbed over an Irvine Road fence and were yelling and screaming. A deputy determined a school dance was underway and that administrators were at the scene.
TOMALES - A man at 9:30 p.m. complained about a loud christening party at the town hall. When contacted by a deputy, the partygoers turned off their music.
POINT REYES STATION - A vehicle overturned on Highway 1, and the victims were taken to Kaiser Hospital in Terra Linda.
FOUR CORNERS - Fire department medics at 11 p.m. reported there was a large coupe by the side of the road with a man standing in the rain. A deputy could not find him.
POINT REYES STATION - Deputies at 11 p.m. reported motorists were trying to change a flat tire. They did not belong to an automobile association and declined to be towed.
DILLON BEACH - Deputies at 10:40 a.m. were notified of five Jet Skiers offshore. A deputy informed two of them that a new county ordinance banned Jet Skis on the coast, and they said they would try to get the other three out of the water.
MUIR BEACH - Deputies at 11 p.m. received a report that a downtown bridge was four feet under floodwaters. A car had become stuck in the flooding, and the callers told officers people were unable to reach the car and get a woman out.
FOUR CORNERS - Deputies assisted the Highway Patrol when a vehicle overturned.
BOLINAS - An Olema-Bolinas Road resident at 4 a.m. notified deputies she had heard several gunshots and that it sounded like several vehicles were in the area. A deputy found nothing amiss.
STINSON BEACH - A burglar alarm went off at Senator Dianne Feinstein's house at 7:40 a.m., but a deputy determined nothing was wrong.
WOODACRE - Deputies at 8:15 a.m. received a 911 hangup call with what sounded like a child on the line. A mother verified that her child had called the number in error.
NICASIO - Utility lines fell down on Nicasio Valley Road between Rancho Nicasio and the school at 8:45 a.m. Pacific Bell responded.
LAGUNITAS - A man, who was a suspect in an alleged battery the previous night, called from West Cintura Avenue and asked to talk with a deputy. The officer noted there were no warrants for the man, who then agreed to leave.
BOLINAS - A merchant on Wharf Road reported a $1,200 generator had been stolen from his yard.
LAGUNITAS - A man at 9:25 p.m. called deputies from a payphone to report his brother was "going crazy." His brother had not been drinking but was not taking his medication, the man added. A deputy, however, reported the man was "evasive" when questioned, saying only that he had to get back home where his elderly mother was alone and that he needed to get his dog.
BOLINAS - After a man and woman broke up, she harassed him with numerous annoying and threatening emails, a deputy reported. The couple, however, came to an agreement over wages that she claimed he owed her, and she agreed to end her hostile actions and harassment, the officer added.
BOLINAS - A merchant on Wharf Road reported that two guitars had been stolen from his building.
POINT REYES STATION - County Health and Human Services staff reported a possible case of sexual battery. The case was turned over to sheriff's investigators.
FOUR CORNERS - A deputy arrested a man on charges of drunk driving.
POINT REYES STATION - Two vehicles got stuck when Highway 1 flooded between the levee road and the state corporation yard. A towing company pulled them out.
February 10, 2000 Sheriff's Calls
HICKS VALLEY - A vandal spray painted graffiti on the school and burglarized it.
BOLINAS - A deputy cited a man on charges of driving while his license is suspended and with having false tabs on his license plate.
POINT REYES STATION - A motorist at 8:45 p.m. notified deputies she was out of gasoline and needed a few gallons to reach the nearest gas station. An officer referred her to a towing service in town.
PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - County firefighters at 8:45 a.m. told deputies a three-quarter-ton "flatbed truck" of the "dumptruck" variety had been in a traffic accident and had possibly overturned. A deputy notified the Highway Patrol.
FOREST KNOLLS - A Resaca Avenue resident at 9:15 a.m. complained that a half-ton pickup truck with a trailer was parked opposite his house and facing in the wrong direction. The man said the vehicles were creating a major hazard for traffic by not leaving enough clearance.
DILLON BEACH - A man at 12:45 p.m. complained that two Jet Skis had been launched in town and were now offshore.
DILLON BEACH - A Cypress Avenue resident at 2 p.m. complained that he and his seven-year-old son had encountered two women in their mid-20s walking a black Labrador on the beach and that the dog had urinated on his son's leg. When the resident confronted the dog's owner, he reported, she said that "the dog was trained to do it."
TOMALES - Medics at 10 p.m. responded to Gericke Road where someone was unconscious after drinking since 2 p.m. After being revived, the person became combative, complained of chest pains, and was taken to a hospital.
FOREST KNOLLS - A man at 11:40 p.m. called deputies from Montezuma Avenue at the request of his landlord, who was in a quarrel with a woman. She had a U-haul truck and was trying to leave, the man said, noting that the two had an ongoing problem.
TOMALES - A deputy responded at 7:20 a.m. when a burglar alarm went off at the Tomales Regional History Center. The officer determined that the alarm had been accidentally set off by a construction crew.
LAGUNITAS - A woman at 11 a.m. reported that she was trying to evict a tenant with whom she shares a house on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. A note saying he will never leave had been left on a computer, and a knife had been left nearby, she added. The woman also accused the tenant of clenching his fist at her. She described the conflict as an ongoing problem. However, while a deputy was giving her advice, the battery in the woman's cell phone died. At 10:30 p.m., the tenant called deputies from downtown to complain that the woman was trying to evict him without serving eviction papers. She was showing his room to prospective tenants, he added, and had changed the locks on the gate to her property.
MARSHALL - A Toyota Landcruiser became stuck in sand 30 feet off Highway 1. Although a tow company had been called, the "occupants were concerned that the tide was coming in and the vehicle would be sucked out to sea," a deputy reported.
FOREST KNOLLS - A woman on Morelos Avenue complained about getting continuing phone calls from a computer or fax machine. She said she wanted to file a report so the phone company would trace the calls. A deputy, however, said no report was needed and referred her to the phone company.
NICASIO - A woman asked that a deputy stand by while her younger sister picked up property from home. She said the sister and her husband were getting a divorce, and so far their conflict had been only verbal. A deputy said a standby would be provided.
OLEMA - Deputies, along with paramedics and Highway Patrol officers, at 9 p.m. responded to a traffic accident at Highway 1 and Bear Valley Road. A deputy radioed that two tow trucks were needed.
STINSON BEACH - A resident asked if the public has access to three parking spaces along Calle del Embarcadero or if the spaces belong to an apartment complex. A deputy gave her advice.
INVERNESS PARK - A Drake's View Drive resident reported a Nikon F4 camera had been stolen from his locked car, which had also been vandalized.
LAGUNITAS - An anonymous caller at 2:15 p.m. complained about a man on a yellow Yamaha motorcycle passing vehicles on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard at high speeds. Deputies referred the matter to the Highway Patrol.
NICASIO - A Nicasio Valley Road property owner called deputies from out of town to say she had learned from a workman that a large trailer was parked on her property. The workman said he entered the unlocked trailer and saw some marijuana but no identification, the property owner reported. A deputy gave her advice.
TOMALES - The high school principal notified deputies that a homeless man had come onto the campus, used a restroom, and then hung around. The principal told the man to leave, and he headed toward downtown. The principal described the man as bearded, in his 20s, and wearing a poncho. He requested that a deputy advise the man that he is not allowed on the high school campus. A deputy at 1:45 p.m. reported he was looking for the man.
BOLINAS - Deputies at 8:45 a.m. received a 911 call with a woman, who said almost nothing, on the line and a man yelling in the background. After things quieted down, the woman said her boyfriend had threatened her.
TOMALES - A Dillon Beach Road resident said someone was fraudulently using her Social Security number.
POINT REYES STATION - An anonymous caller notified deputies that while downtown he had seen a man and vehicle he recognized from Berkeley. The man belongs to a Satanic gang that kills animals and possibly people, the caller said.
FOREST KNOLLS - A Castro Street resident at 2:15 p.m. complained about a man screaming obscenities. He described the man as wearing sunglasses, tan clothes, and a backpack.
FOREST KNOLLS - A man asked a deputy for advice regarding a child-custody matter. He said that when he went to his ex-wife's home, she was gone, but he smelled marijuana. He then said she had just returned. A deputy gave him advice.
SAN GERONIMO - A man reported that a thief stole two hubcaps off his vehicle during the night.
WOODACRE - A burglar on Elm Street pried open a camper shell's window and stole a stereo.
February 3, 2000 Sheriff's Calls
TOMALES - Shoreline High reported finding that a student had a small amount of marijuana with him. The boy was cited to the Sheriff's Juvenile Division.
BOLINAS - A 12-year-old boy hit a 20-year-old man and was cited to the Sheriff's Juvenile Division.
STINSON BEACH - A burglar removed a window from its frame at a Calle del Sierra house but didn't get inside - possibly because he was scared off, a deputy reported.
STINSON BEACH - A woman on Seadrift Road reported losing her purse, but before a deputy could write a report on the loss, she called back to say she'd found the purse.
FOREST KNOLLS - A Tamal Road woman reported her ex-husband had moved in down the street from her. She asked for advice concerning a court's restraining order against him and whether he had violated it. However, her call was interrupted by a poor cellular phone connection, and the deputy advised her to call back.
LAGUNITAS - An anonymous caller told deputies he believes a cult is hanging around a downtown business. A deputy noted the man, who was calling from a payphone, was uncooperative when talking about the alleged cult "and connected it somehow to his mother in San Pablo."
OLEMA - A deputy at 11 p.m. received a report of a cow loose on Highway 1 near the cemetery. The officer handled the problem.
BOLINAS - A Brighton Avenue resident at 2:40 a.m. complained about one or two people outside her residence coughing and making noise. Although a deputy described the woman as "uncooperative," the officer searched the area and found a man sleeping in his car. The deputy checked the man's identification and then moved him along.
STINSON BEACH - A Jose Patio resident at 8:50 a.m. complained that a man inside his home was refusing to leave. The man, who had arrived with a friend, was drunk throughout the previous evening, the resident said. The man kept getting in and out of his friend's car and was now back in the home, the resident said.
SAN GERONIMO - A vehicle ran into a ditch at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Nicasio Valley Road during the night, a Marin Municipal Water District ranger reported the next morning. The owner told deputies he would have the vehicle towed out of the ditch.
DILLON BEACH - A woman told deputies she had found a trespasser with an unleashed dog on her property at Estero and Valley Ford-Franklin School roads. Two children with the trespasser were climbing over her fence, she said. When she and her husband, both on foot, confronted the trespasser, he almost drove into her with his car and made threats, she said, adding that problem grew out of an incident six months earlier.
POINT REYES STATION - A Mañana Way resident complained at 1:20 a.m. that a drunk woman was refusing to leave his home. He acknowledged he too had been drinking.
BOLINAS - An anonymous caller complained about a man sleeping nights in a van parked on Elm Road. A deputy found the van but not the man. After determining the van was registered in Ukiah, the officer arranged to have the vehicle towed away.
MARSHALL - A woman at 10 a.m. reported three cows were on Highway 1 between Tony's Seafood restaurant and the Marshall Boatworks.
DOGTOWN - A dispatcher reported, "Flag down by citizen cow in the roadway," adding that firefighters were also aware of a loose cow on Highway 1. Deputies asked the Highway Patrol to deal with the expatriated animal.
INVERNESS - Deputies received a report that a home's basement door had been tampered with. An officer determined the apparent tampering was merely the work of the homeowner.
LAGUNITAS - After deputies tagged for removal in 72 hours a car parked at Lagunitas Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, they were notified that the car, which bore no license plates, had now been pushed into the street and was totally blocking a man's driveway. Deputies referred the problem to the Highway Patrol.
POINT REYES STATION - A merchant reported that someone had stolen a $15 book and that she had information about the suspect. A deputy concluded there had been no theft.
BOLINAS - After a Walnut Road resident returned from a trip, she found that $6,500 to $7,000 worth of jewelry had been stolen at her home.
POINT REYES STATION - A Knob Hill Road resident reported a large, yellow pickup truck had run into her fence and driven off. She said the truck had engine problems and was probably still in the area. Deputies turned the matter over to the Highway Patrol.
WOODACRE - An Elm Avenue resident reported a burglar broke into a storage shed on her property.
HICKS VALLEY - A motorist on the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road at 2:40 p.m. reported hearing six to 10 gunshots but seeing no people or animals around. A deputy reported the shots came from a pistol range and did not endanger any vehicles or buildings.
BOLINAS - A resident at 10 a.m. reported a man with a rifle was walking on Brighton Avenue near the Episcopal Church. A deputy determined the rifle was actually an inoperable BB gun.
WOODACRE - A woman reported that a vandal had cut a phone line along Garden Way during the night and that vandalism has been a continual problem.
BOLINAS - A resident complained that for two nights people had camped in a van parked at Maple Road and Ocean Parkway.
FOREST KNOLLS - A woman on Resaca Avenue said she tucked her purse under her car seat while she walked a friend's dog. When she returned, the purse containing her driver's license, credit cards, and $10 was gone. A deputy gave her advice.
INVERNESS PARK - A woman at 9 p.m. complained that a group of juveniles with four vehicles were playing loud music downtown. She said a neighbor had asked them to turn down the music, but they didn't comply. A deputy dispersed the group.
SAN GERONIMO- A San Geronimo Valley Drive
resident at 9:40 p.m. reported hearing a loud bang. Nothing appeared amiss,
she said, except that the lights were out at the postoffice. A deputy found
power to the postoffice had been cut by a falling tree.
