January 28, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
OLEMA - A merchant called deputies to complain that a drunk man kept entering her shop where he tried to steal - and then to swallow - a ring. She described him as in his 30s, wearing no shirt, and carrying a green can of beer. The merchant next reported that the man had walked across Highway 1 and was bothering people on the other side. He then returned to her side of the highway. A deputy arrested the man on charges of public drunkenness, noting that the subject has a history of alcohol-related offenses in Sonoma County.
STINSON BEACH - A woman reported that someone had entered her residence, possibly a tenant who had been evicted.
POINT REYES STATION - A woman lost her wallet.
INVERNESS - A 16-year-old boy threw a bag of garbage in front of house on Inverness Way at 10:45 p.m. The resident told deputies she recognized the boy and his four-wheel-drive vehicle.
POINT REYES STATION - A woman lost her cane, possibly at a portable toilet.
TOMALES - Deputies received a report of a black cow heading west on the Tomales-Petaluma Road three miles outside of town. A deputy contacted the owner.
LAGUNITAS - A woman reported her divorce from her husband had just become final although they were still living in the same house. Apparently to celebrate the occasion, the husband had become drunk and loud but not violent, she said. The woman added that their 20-year-old daughter was in the house. A deputy gave her advice.
BOLINAS - A woman complained to a deputy about aircraft flying low over her head. The officer gave her advice.
SAN GERONIMO - A woman reported that a man in his 20s had offered her daughter crack cocaine on Lagunitas School Road. He was gone when a deputy arrived.
MUIR BEACH - A woman notified deputies that a man has resumed harassing her by phone.
BOLINAS - Deputies received a complaint of people hanging out on Brighton Avenue and playing loud music. An officer could not find them.
BOLINAS - A car ran into a ditch at Highway 1, but by the time the Highway Patrol arrived, the car was gone - leaving only tracks in the mud.
INVERNESS - A Vision Road resident reported a padlock and chain had been stolen off his gate. He asked for extra patrols around his house.
STINSON BEACH - A landlord reported that a spark arrester had been stolen from her chimney.
MT. TAMALPAIS - Deputies received a report of a slide blocking part of Panoramic Highway somewhere west of Bootjack. A deputy finally found the slide and removed rocks from the road.
INVERNESS PARK - A powerline fell down along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. PG&E workers put it back up.
January 21, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
INVERNESS - A resident reported that a vandal threw a rock through the rear window of her car, which was parked along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.
TOMALES - At the request of ranch workers, a deputy at 9 p.m. shot a cow that had been seriously injured by a sports utility vehicle on Dillon Beach Road.
INVERNESS - A deputy in Second Valley at 10:40 p.m. arrested a man on charges of abusing a cohabitant after he allegedly punched her in the face. Deputies said the woman showed no visible injuries.
LAGUNITAS - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident at 8 p.m. called deputies to complain that his brother, 30, was drunk and in the resident's house. The resident quoted his brother as saying he would stab himself if an officer tried to call on him. The resident said his brother was armed with a steak knife. The brother eventually left the residence.
SAN GERONIMO - A woman called deputies from Newport Beach at 10:30 p.m. to say her daughter, who lives along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, had been struck in the face by her son-in-law, who was threatening to strike the daughter again.
INVERNESS PARK - After fallen power lines blocked a road, firefighters handled the situation.
INVERNESS - A Callendar Way resident said his vehicle's windshield had been broken by two BBs during the night.
WOODACRE - A man complained about a disturbance at Ridge Rock Road and Madrone Avenue involving a domestic dispute. A deputy could not find the quarrelers.
POINT REYES STATION - A woman on Mesa Road reported her car was stolen during the night, leaving her extremely upset.
SAN GERONIMO - A burglar stole a cash register containing $175 from a business but left behind his flashlight.
SAN GERONIMO - A San Geronimo Drive resident at 8 p.m. reported receiving a call from neighborhood kids that someone was at their house banging on the door, swearing, and wanting to get in. The resident then left his home to check on the welfare of the kids.
LAGUNITAS - Deputies at 10:40 p.m. received a complaint about a large party with people screaming on Alta Avenue. Officers were told that the guests' vehicles were creating a traffic hazard.
STINSON BEACH - A man, who last year witnessed a crime, became suspicious when a car with its lights out stopped at 11 p.m. for two minutes in front of his house and then left.
SAN GERONIMO - A woman reported that someone had tried to steal a sump pump along Lagunitas School Road. The culprits cut a fence and dragged the pump down the road, but it was too large to steal, a deputy reported.
TOMALES - A woman reported her 43-year-old mother was very agitated and out of control, yelling and screaming. The woman said her mother had never done this in the past and was not on medication.
BOLINAS - A deputy investigated a report of child abuse, but the only sex was consensual between minors of similar ages, the officer determined.
BOLINAS WYE - A deputy reported that someone had dumped a large load of tree clippings along the Bolinas-Fairfax Road. The officer said a county Public Works Department crew was needed to clean up the mess.
BOLINAS - A man complained that four or five people were drinking on Terrace Avenue at 4:40 p.m. A deputy could not find them.
FOREST KNOLLS - A woman at 10:15 p.m. reported hearing a man yelling at a woman, "You dumb..." She said she also heard the man hit the woman. A deputy could not find the disturbance, which was supposed to be in the area of Forest Drive and Montezuma Road.
TOMALES - A woman asked to talk with a deputy about false statements that were made when someone got a court's restraining order against her.
INVERNESS - A thief stole the doormats from a Sir Francis Drake Boulevard business.
OLEMA - Someone put a broken boxcutter blade in a cup used for serving coffee.
January 14, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
NICASIO - A man told deputies a second man had cut himself with a knife, but the officer determined the second man had actually punched out a window after an argument. The deputy said neither man was cooperative, and he could not determine who was the aggressor. However, the second man was transported to the county crisis unit after he said he wanted to hurt himself.
NATIONAL SEASHORE - A man was cited on charges he violated a court order to leave a woman alone. The man was taken to the sheriff's substation and released.
WOODACRE - A man asked for extra patrols around his house to protect a woman staying with his household. A judge had issued the woman an emergency protective order against a second man following a disturbance, the first man said.
BOLINAS - A deputy helped Alameda County Child Protective Services remove an eight month old from a house after the infant's mother failed to show up in Alameda County Superior Court for a drug case.
STINSON BEACH - An anonymous caller complained that construction workers were playing music very loudly all day long in the Belvedere Avenue area. A contractor agreed to turn the music down.
WOODACRE - A man reported a gun was taken from his parked vehicle. A deputy later reported the gun was taken for destruction.
STINSON BEACH - A tenant complained that her landlady keeps removing the cap to the flue of her wood-burning stove. A deputy determined the dispute was a matter of civil, not criminal, law.
INVERNESS PARK - A woman said she felt threatened by her 16-year-old son, who had tried to steal her car and was throwing things around the house. She said he had physically tried to keep her from using the phone.
OLEMA VALLEY - Deputies received a report of four horses loose on Highway 1 at 12:15 a.m.
INVERNESS PARK - A man reported that an 18-foot travel trailer was stuck on Drake's View Drive near Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and needed a tow.
STINSON BEACH - A landlord asked advice for dealing with a tenant, saying the woman calls her all day and harasses her Realtor. The landlord said she believes her tenant is emotionally disturbed.
SAN GERONIMO - A Highway Patrolman arrested a driver at Creamery Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard on charges of drunk driving.
INVERNESS PARK - A Portola Avenue resident said a vandal had scratched a window and side panels on his parked car.
NICASIO - A Lucas Valley Road resident said her parked car had been sideswiped.
INVERNESS - A Perth Way resident at 3 a.m. complained about a carload of juveniles making noise outside near his home. The problem was abated before a deputy arrived.
INVERNESS - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident called deputies to report her daughter had come home to find a door open and signs of an apparent burglary. She said she had told her daughter to stay out of the house until an officer arrived.
POINT REYES STATION - A Highway 1 resident notified deputies she had been physically harmed by her husband, who is seriously unwell, but he had now left their house.
BOLINAS - A woman reported that a man had wanted a letter from the school principal, and when he didn't get it, the man started swearing. He was last seen heading downtown. The woman asked for advice.
BOLINAS - A woman reported that someone had dug two large holes in the ground at Dogwood and Poplar roads. She said she was worried a child could fall in.
WOODACRE - A deputy on Castle Rock Avenue broke up a dog fight.
INVERNESS PARK - A resident reported that a woman had stopped her car in the middle of Portola Avenue. The resident said there was garbage all over the street and the woman was going through it. Deputies had earlier received a report that the woman allegedly battered another woman on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.
FOREST KNOLLS - An eight-year-old boy at 3:40 p.m. called 911 to report that his seven-year-old brother was pulling his hair. The older brother said their sister was supposed to be keeping an eye on them. Deputies were told the children's mother was on her way home from work to deal with the problem.
LAGUNITAS - Deputies at 11:30 p.m. received an anonymous report of a man and woman, or possibly a group, screaming on Spring Road. An officer could not find the screamers.
FOREST KNOLLS - A truck with a trailer ran into a creek beside Tamal Road. No one was injured in the 2 p.m. accident.
BOLINAS - A man reported that two men in their 20s had attacked him on Wharf Road. One man hit him in the face, and the other hit him in the arm with a metal club, he said. Deputies noted the man had received numerous injuries.
LAGUNITAS - A woman reported that someone may have tried to injure her dog by throwing a coffee can containing an unknown substance at her pet. A deputy determined the substance was not poison, but paint.
STINSON BEACH - A woman on Calle del Mar notified deputies she was watching television when a shot was fired into her window. A deputy and Park Service rangers investigated and concluded the window had been hit by a bird, not a bullet.
BOLINAS - Deputies received a report that a vandal broke two windows at the school.
POINT REYES STATION - A septic truck from out of town ran off Highway 1 into a ditch.
STINSON BEACH - Firefighters responded when a man reported a driver slumped over his steering wheel at Highway 1 and Panoramic Highway.
January 7, 1999 Sheriff's Calls
POINT REYES STATION - A therapist reported 38 of her checks had been stolen and forged for $2,000. She said she suspects a former employee.
INVERNESS - A vandal threw a rock through the living room window of an Inverness Way house.
TOMALES - A thief stole a $200 woodpecker sign from the front of a business on the Tomales-Petaluma Road.
POINT REYES STATION - A woman reported that a vandal had kicked a hole in her bamboo fence along Lorraine Avenue.
FOREST KNOLLS - A burglar smashed the front window of a Sir Francis Drake Boulevard business and stole goods displayed on a shelf just inside the window.
SAN GERONIMO - A woman reported a man stole $60 from her wallet at Nicasio Valley Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.
DILLON BEACH - A deputy on Oceana Drive arrested a man on New Year's Day for allegedly assaulting a woman, threatening her, and holding her against her will.
HICKS VALLEY - A man found a purse beside the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road and turned it over to firefighters.
INVERNESS PARK - A woman threatened to throw her baby son downstairs if her husband didn't take him out of the room. Deputies investigated whether the child had been endangered and concluded the statement was made in anger and the child was never placed in danger.
NICASIO - A deputy assisted a Highway Patrolman when a car had a non-injury crash on Lucas Valley Road a mile west of Big Rock.
SAN GERONIMO - A Sir Francis Drake Boulevard resident complained of receiving harassing phone calls at all hours from people who first asked for his wife and then were obscene or hung up.
WOODACRE - A Castle Rock Avenue resident reported a burglar had stolen a windsurfing pager and a shaving kit from the glovebox of his truck.
PT. REYES-PETALUMA ROAD - A person was transported to Petaluma Valley Hospital at 2 a.m. after having trouble breathing.
OLEMA - A man at 2:15 a.m. notified deputies it appeared that poachers were spotlighting deer at the Truttman Curve of Highway 1 two miles south of downtown.
SAN GERONIMO - A thief dismantled a water tank in a vacant lot along Tamarack Drive.
SAN GERONIMO - A woman calling from Newport Beach told deputies her five-month-old baby and 2.5-year-old daughter were being beaten by another woman in a Sir Francis Drake Boulevard home. A deputy called the house and heard a disturbance "with lots of yelling and furniture breaking."
TOMALES - A deputy assisted firefighters when power lines fell to the ground and began smoking.
INVERNESS PARK - A truck got briefly stuck when it could not make a turn at Douglas Street and Dover Drive.
BOLINAS - A Brighton Avenue woman at 4 p.m. complained of loud music.
STINSON BEACH - A man told deputies that $200 was stolen from his home and that he believed he knew who took it. A deputy determined there had been no theft and that the man had loaned the money to his son.
BOLINAS - A man got out of his vehicle at the Bolinas Wye because his wife, who was driving, was drunk. A ranger took the man home and left a note for the wife downtown.
NATIONAL SEASHORE - Two trucks collided at Pierce Point Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. No one was injured.
POINT REYES STATION - A woman reported two cows were loose in the intersection of Highway 1 and the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road. A deputy contacted a neighboring landowner, and the cows were returned to their pasture.
POINT REYES STATION - A Third Street resident complained that a man was screaming, growling, and yelling obscenities near a rancher's corral. A deputy determined the man was not insane.
BOLINAS - An anonymous caller complained of six to eight juveniles playing car stereos loudly on Wharf Road. When a deputy checked, he found a group of adults smoking outside a business.
WOODACRE - A woman at 12:30 a.m. complained of loud youths having parties on Fire Road. She said she is tired of picking up their beer bottles. The youths were gone when a deputy arrived.
FOREST KNOLLS - Child Protective Services asked a deputy to report on a possible case of physical abuse.
LAGUNITAS - An East Cintura Avenue resident complained that a neighbor had just dumped a dumptruck load of dirt on her property although she has documents showing that he is not supposed to be on her property. A deputy reported the situation is a "very ongoing problem" and gave her advice.
FOREST KNOLLS - A woman on Montezuma Avenue reported a duffel bag containing $300 worth of ski gear was stolen from her vehicle.
