Artistic permaculture

The greenest production process is artistic generation. It is more sustainable and less impactful than any other human activity. And yet, artistic generation is responsible for most of what cultures are proudest of–the frescos and philosophies. A single person with a few meager supplies can produce paintings, sculptures, novels, even systems of thought and religions.

England burned down all of its forests more than 600 years ago in order to fuel the production of products long dead, while Saint Thomas Aquinas birthed a durable system of thought without any discernible impact on Medieval forests, streams or fisheries.

This is why the Point Reyes Light recently began a series of political art contests. Art is generated when talent is fueled by inspiration. There are many talented artists in West Marin. The Light will do it’s best to inspire them.

Artistic fusion takes place when large numbers of artists press and agitate against one another. Paris in the 1920’s, Florence during the Renaissance – why not West Marin in 2010? The Light would like to encourage the best and brightest artists of our generation to move to West Marin and become organic farmers of the mind.
