NPS invites comment on oyster farm’s impact
The National Park Service announced it is starting a grueling 21-month process to develop an Environmental Impact Statement that will determine the viability of extending Drakes Bay Oyster Company’s use permit for ten more years. “It’s going to be a great way to engage the public and we’re looking forward to a broad participation,” said Melanie Gunn with the park service. “We feel like it’s a really positive step towards reaching resolution.”
A “public scoping” period starting in October will give residents 30 days to submit comments in support or against the oyster company, either in written form or online. There will also be three public meetings during this time—one in West Marin, one in East Marin and one in the East Bay.
